Bahrain ranked third among Arab countries and 38th worldwide in the 2025 Human Development Report issued by the United Nations Development Programme, recording a Human Development Index (HDI) score of 0.899. The index measures performance in health, education and income.
The United Arab Emirates topped the Arab list, taking 15th place globally with a score of 0.940. Saudi Arabia followed in 37th place with 0.900, placing just ahead of Bahrain.
Qatar came fourth in the Arab world and 43rd worldwide with 0.886. Oman was fifth regionally and 50th globally on 0.858, while Kuwait placed sixth among Arab states and 52nd overall with 0.852.
In North Africa, Algeria ranked 96th globally with a score of 0.763. Jordan and Egypt shared 100th place on 0.754. Lebanon was 102nd with 0.752, followed by Tunisia in 105th with 0.746.
Libya ranked 110th on 0.721, Morocco 120th on 0.710, and Iraq 126th on 0.695. Palestine was last among Arab states, in 133rd place with 0.674.
The HDI is calculated using life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling and educational attainment, and gross national income per capita. Scores range from zero to one, with higher values indicating stronger development in those areas.
