Comedian Milton Jones gives major prostate cancer update after cancelling tour

Metro2 days ago
Comedian Milton Jones has announced he is cancer free and will be extending his stand-up tour after cancelling several dates earlier this year following his diagnosis.
The 61-year-old, the Live at the Apollo and former Mock The Week star, thanked the doctors and nurses who had helped him amid his treatment for prostate cancer and said he is 'in a completely different place' now.
A statement Jones said: 'A few months ago, I had to stop my tour Ha!Milton because I needed treatment for prostate cancer.
'I'm glad to say I've had that treatment and am now cancer free!
'So, many thanks to all the doctors and nurses who helped me get better – I couldn't do their job (I tried, but apparently you have to be qualified).
'A big thank you to my family, friends, all those who helped reschedule things and the many others who have been so nice to me. https://www.instagram.com/p/DI_ARvHNWhj/?img_index=1
'Along with all those who have kept hold of their tickets for the shows that have been rescheduled and apologies to those whose shows we were unable to move.
'I have to admit there were a few dark moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see me again, but then I realised that I was leaning against the light switch.
'Thankfully I'm now in a completely different place, and if you look at my website, you'll see that very soon I'll be in lots of other different places on tour too – miltonjones.co.uk I hope to see you there.'
In April, Jones announced his diagnosis in an Instagram post where he explained he would be needing time to recover after undergoing surgery.
He wrote: 'This difficult decision comes following a recent diagnosis of treatable prostate cancer. I'll be undergoing surgery soon and will need time afterwards to recover.'
The comic concluded: 'Thank you for your support and respecting my privacy during this time. This decision has not been taken lightly.
'Trust me, abnormal service will resume as soon as possible and I'm looking forward to being back out on the road again soon – though probably not on a bike!'
Fans and friends took to the comments section with their suppoer.
'All the best Milton for a speedy recovery,' fellow comic Al Murray shared, while rialsnismulac wrote: 'Health before humour Milton, wishing you a speedy recovery sir.' More Trending
In the comments, Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who has incurable stage four prostate cancer, said: 'Really sorry to hear it mate, best of luck.'
According to the NHS, prostate cancer often has no symptoms at first.
Prostate cancer usually starts to grow on the outer part of the prostate. This means it does not press on the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the penis (urethra) and cause symptoms, until the cancer has grown or spread.
If this happens, it can cause changes to the way you pee, such as: finding it difficult to start peeing or straining to pee
having a weak flow of urine
'stop start' peeing
needing to pee urgently or often, or both
feeling like you still need to pee when you've just finished
peeing during the night
Other symptoms can include: lower back pain and losing weight without trying to (these may be symptoms of advanced prostate cancer)
erectile dysfunction
blood in your urine or blood in your semen
The comedian rescheduled some gigs for the summer and has now announced 20 more shows to take place across September, October and November in cities and towns that include Exeter, Guildford, St Albans, Newbury, Crewe, Wrexham and Bury St Edmunds.
His stand-up show, Ha!Milton, which is scheduled to end in November, is a play on words, making reference to the hit musical of the same name.
Jones's career has seen him perform on Live At The Apollo, Lee Mack's All Star Cast and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow.

Perrie Edwards 'could barely leave the house' due to mental health battle

Little Mix star Perrie Edwards has opened up about her experiences as she discussed her ongoing battle with anxiety and panic attacks Little Mix star Perrie Edwards has opened up about how a mental health condition devastated her life last year. The 32-year-old has disclosed in a fresh interview that she "could barely leave" her home towards the end of 2024. ‌ The former X Factor singer, who was appointed as an ambassador for the mental health charity Mind earlier this year, has been championing awareness around conditions like agoraphobia. ‌ BRIT Award winner Perrie has also previously discussed her battle with anxiety and panic attacks. She's now provided an update in an interview published this week, as detailed in the Mirror. ‌ Perrie disclosed that she has a habit of "catastrophising" situations and battled to leave the home she shares with her fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and their son last year. Speaking to the Telegraph, Perrie said that she's "in her element" on stage, describing herself as "empowered". She added: "But as soon as I'm back home behind closed doors, that's when the anxiety kicks in and I'm just me again." She told the outlet that she can't help but "catastrophise" over "everyday things," such as getting into her car and driving to London. She said: "At the end of last year my agoraphobia got so bad I could barely leave the house." Agoraphobia is "a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult or where help wouldn't be available if things go wrong," according to the NHS. It further states that the condition can lead to symptoms of a panic attack, and the NHS adds that it can itself develop from panic disorder, something Perrie has previously disclosed that she suffers from. ‌ During an episode of Alison Hammond's Big Weekend released in May, she confessed: "I've developed panic disorder, so it's the fear of having a panic attack." She explained to Alison Hammond that this condition emerged after she began experiencing "severe" panic attacks a few years ago. She admitted: "I then developed like a fear of having one again. So I was like, if I'm on my own and I have a panic attack, I might die, and nobody will be here to help." ‌ Giving a glimpse into how this affects her daily life, she continued: "So that's why I'm never on my own." When asked if she ever stays home alone, she responded: "No, never. Never! I'm always with somebody. Because I just ... I don't like the feeling of feeling like I'm gonna die." Later in the episode, Perrie told Alison that her first panic attack occurred after consuming an over-the-counter caffeine shot during a trip to Las Vegas with her bandmates some years ago. On the BBC show, Perrie recalled: "I honestly thought I was having a heart attack from whatever was in I.T.." She recalled "pacing" around her room at the time and suffering panic attacks before eventually ending up in hospital. ‌ Perrie, who suggested that the experience had been a "trigger" and caused her anxiety to skyrocket, added: "After that incident, I just kept having them like again and again." The Little Mix star has since disclosed that she's enlisted help from therapists to manage her panic attacks. In a June interview with Metro, she revealed she's "trying to be at peace" with her anxiety and its physical manifestations, rather than dreading potential panic episodes. ‌ She explained to the publication that she has "tried everything," noting she has experimented with "all different kinds" of therapy. Perrie acknowledged that whilst she had previously been equipped with coping techniques, "everything goes out the window" when an attack strikes. The singer revealed: "Last year, maybe in September, I started to take my therapist to work with me, which I know is a very privileged situation." She explained they could guide her through any panic episode "there and then," describing it in the interview as: "It's the best thing I've ever done."
