
Police seek arsonists for Bradford West Gwillimbury fires
Black smoke billowed out from a fire near Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
A police car on patrol near Professor Day Drive and Holland Street West saw the smoke and headed over to the school Sunday night.
There, both police and firefighters found a portable toilet on fire.
Later that night, South Simcoe Police responded to a call about people with a gas can attempting to light things on fire in the same area where the first fire occurred.
Once again, police and firefighters arrived and this time found a garbage can on fire with a gas can located nearby.
After canvassing the area, witnesses told police about seeing a man and woman walking towards St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School.
Police are investigating both incidents and believe that they may be related.
South Simcoe Police are appealing to anyone with information or video footage from Sunday in the areas of Fieldcrest Elementary School and St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School to contact Police Const. Bryan Soares at 705-436-2141 or 905-775-3311.

Canada-wide warrant issued for man wanted in connection with Markham, Ont. shooting
York Regional Police issue nationwide warrant in connection with Markham shooting earlier this year. (York Regional Police) A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a man wanted for attempted murder following a shooting in Markham, Ont. in January. In a news release issued on Friday, York Regional Police say they responded to a shooting in the area of Lee Avenue and Noble Street at around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. Officers say they found a woman with a gunshot wound, adding she was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They did not provide an update on her condition. Police are searching for 35-year-old Chao Chen, of Markham, who is also facing a conspiracy to commit murder charge. The charges have not been tested in court. They say they have not been able to find Chen, and are issuing the nationwide warrant for his arrest. Police say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. 'If seen, citizens are urged not to approach him but to call police immediately,' the release reads. Officials urge Chen to seek legal advice and turn himself over to authorities. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

RNC investigating after human remains found near trail in St. John's
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it's investigating after human remains were found near a trail in St. John's. In a news release, the RNC said it responded to a report of a deceased person located in a small clearing near the Three Pond Barrens trail near Pippy Park around 1:30 p.m. NT on Wednesday. The RNC said officers were accompanied by paramedics, and confirmed the human remains. The RNC criminal investigation division was deployed to conduct an investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, supported by Memorial University's anthropology department, are conducting an analysis of the remains. The person has not yet been identified, but is believed to be male, the RNC said. Police say there is no risk to public safety, and the death is not believed to be suspicious.
