The amended order mandates monthly reports by the 15th of each month, detailing oil usage, production, sales and stocks to ensure better
supply chain tracking
and maintain availability of cooking oils at fair prices.
The amendment also strengthens enforcement mechanisms. The Director is empowered to inspect factories, demand information and seize stocks if false reporting is suspected. Non-compliance with orders is explicitly prohibited, with producers required to follow all directives.

These measures aim to prevent hoarding or misrepresentation and protect consumers from supply disruptions.
The amendment introduces clearer definitions for key terms including "Producer," "Vegetable Oil," and "Director (Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils)," aligning them with the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008.
It removes outdated references like "de-oiled meal or edible flour" and scraps Schedule-III and Paragraph 13 to simplify regulations. The term "Clause" has been replaced with "paragraph" throughout, while "Chief Director" has been updated to "Director" for consistency.
Welcoming the move, the Indian Vegetable Producers' Association (IVPA) said a key concern flagged by the government is the lack of consistent and comprehensive data across the industry, which limits effective policymaking.
"The organised sector, which maintains robust compliance standards, is well-equipped to provide data under the amended framework. However, the challenge lies in the highly fragmented unorganised sector, which comprises thousands of small mills and processing units, making data collection more complex," IVPA said in a statement.
The association believes data quality and completeness will improve over time, supporting the shared objectives of policymakers, farmers, consumers and the industry.
The 2025 Amendment Order represents a step toward greater transparency and accountability in the vegetable oil industry through streamlined regulations and enhanced oversight to stabilise supply of this essential commodity.

Rising demand pushes butter fruit seed prices to Rs 6-8 in Kodagu
Madikeri: Butter fruit cultivation has seen substantial growth in Kodagu over the past five years. The multiple annual harvests have attracted increased interest from growers. Currently, the demand for butter fruit seeds surpasses that of the fruit itself in the district. Individual butter fruit seeds are commanding prices between Rs 6 and Rs 8. The proliferation of butter fruit nurseries across the district has led to an increased seed demand. Fruit traders have expanded their operations to include seed trading, resulting in substantial profits. The district has witnessed significant demand for grafted butter fruit plants over the past five years. These grafted varieties from Kodagu are supplied to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala. Grafted plants sell for Rs 100 to 150, with annual interstate supply reaching lakhs of plants. The rising demand for grafted plants has consequently increased seed requirements. Seeds previously discarded in gardens are now valuable commodities. Nursery operators are now actively purchasing seeds from butter fruit growers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Access all TV channels without a subscription! Techno Mag Learn More Undo During harvest season, traders purchase seeds at Rs 2-3 and resell them to nurseries at Rs 6-8. The increasing seed demand has prompted traders to prioritise seed collection over fruit procurement, including gathering fallen seeds beneath trees and extracting them from ripe fruit during harvest. The district's growing butter fruit popularity has resulted in numerous nurseries establishing themselves, with even small residential spaces being utilised for grafted plant cultivation. A butter fruit seller Ramshid, in Ammathi, said, "The current scenario presents high seed demand throughout the district. As nurseries expand their operations and increase grafted plant production, seed availability has become limited due to widespread trading activities. Traders are now actively collect seeds from ripe butter fruits to meet demand."

Elon Musk's Tesla ordered to pay over $240 million for Autopilot crash case; company says ‘This was never about…'
Representative Image A US court has found Elon Musk's electric vehicle (EV) company, Tesla, partially liable for a fatal 2019 Autopilot crash. The Miami jury has ordered the EV maker to pay a portion of the $329 million in damages awarded to the family of the deceased and an injured survivor. The jury held Tesla responsible for 33% of the crash's fault. The total damages include $129 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages. Based on the jury's decision, Tesla will be responsible for paying nearly $42.5 million in compensatory damages. However, as punitive damages were exclusively assessed against Tesla, plaintiffs' attorneys expect the company to pay the full $200 million, potentially bringing its total payment to around $242.5 million. Tesla has stated its intention to appeal the decision. What Tesla said about the Autopilot crash order In a statement to CNBC, Tesla confirmed that it will appeal the decision. The company said: 'Today's verdict is wrong and only works to set back automotive safety and jeopardize Tesla's and the entire industry's efforts to develop and implement life-saving technology. We plan to appeal given the substantial errors of law and irregularities at trial. Even though this jury found that the driver was overwhelmingly responsible for this tragic accident in 2019, the evidence has always shown that this driver was solely at fault because he was speeding, with his foot on the accelerator – which overrode Autopilot – as he rummaged for his dropped phone without his eyes on the road. To be clear, no car in 2019, and none today, would have prevented this crash. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The boy meets a dog on the street - no one expected what happened next. Women's Method Learn More Undo This was never about Autopilot; it was a fiction concocted by plaintiffs' lawyers blaming the car when the driver – from day one – admitted and accepted responsibility.' The trial, which began last month in Florida, focused on a fatal 2019 crash involving Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot system. George McGee, the Tesla driver, dropped his phone and assumed the Autopilot would brake if needed. Instead, the car accelerated through an intersection at over 60 mph, hitting a parked car and its owners. Naibel Benavides, 22, was killed, and her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, was seriously injured. Plaintiffs' attorneys had sought $345 million in damages. In an emailed statement, Brett Schreiber, one of the plaintiffs' counsel, said: 'Tesla designed Autopilot only for controlled access highways yet deliberately chose not to restrict drivers from using it elsewhere, alongside Elon Musk telling the world Autopilot drove better than humans. Tesla's lies turned our roads into test tracks for their fundamentally flawed technology, putting everyday Americans like Naibel Benavides and Dillon Angulo in harm's way.'
