Orlando Pirates star for big clubs in Europe

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has tipped Mbekezeli Mbokazi for a bright future after his commanding display in the 1-1 MTN8 semi-final first-leg draw with Mamelodi Sundowns at a packed Orlando Stadium.
The 19-year-old Bafana Bafana defender stood tall at centre-back against the league's most dangerous attack, even providing the fabulous diagonal pass that set up Kamogelo Sebelebele's equaliser.
With Nkosinathi Sibisi injured and Tapelo Xoki on the bench, Mbokazi wore the armband with pride – and didn't look out of place leading the Soweto giants on such a big stage. Why Velebayi is not training with Chiefs

'About who? I don't know him, this player,' said Ben Youssef, in response to a question about the 22 year-old. Kaizer Chiefs have already unveiled young attacking midfielder Asanele Velebayi as their new signing on a long-term contract. ALSO READ: Chiefs' Cele believes winning at home will bring back the fans The player, however has not started training with the Chiefs first team, Amakhosi media officer Vina Maphosa confirmed on Monday. Chiefs' Ben Youssef – 'I don't know him, this player' This was after Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef did not appear to be sure who Velebayi was at a Chiefs media briefing in Naturena. 'About who? I don't know him, this player,' said Ben Youssef, in response to a question about the 22 year-old. This prompted Maphose to intervene. 'Asanele has joined us on a long-term contract and he will start training very soon. The coaches are not involved on that side (of the business). Give the coach a chance to see the player first,' said Maphosa. Velebayi not taking part in first team training almost certainly stems from the fact that Cape Town Spurs are still trying to prove the player is legally contracted to them. A Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has declared Velebayi a free agent, after Spurs were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season. This means Spurs now have amateur status and in theory, their players are free to join a club of their choice. Chiefs have gone ahead and announced Velebayi as their new signing. Spurs, however, have taken the matter to South African Football Association Arbitration on appeal. It is possible that Chiefs are not prepare to court further trouble, if SAFA Arbitration finds in Spurs' favour. It is a strange set of circumstances, with Chiefs also hoping to sign another player that was on Spurs' books, Luke Baartman. ALSO READ: Pirates' Ouaddou – 'You cannot be happy about a draw' 'A legal and logical catastrophe' 'The ruling is a legal and logical catastrophe, one built on contradictory reasoning and a wilful ignorance of contractual law,' Spurs said in a statement after the PSL DC's decision. 'More alarmingly, it has fired a fatal shot into the heart of football development, threatening to make long-term investment in young talent an unsustainable, and ultimately pointless, endeavour.'

Kaizer Chiefs: When is Nasreddine Nabi coming back?

Kaizer Chiefs have not been with their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, since the start of the season. The 60-year-old Tunisian mentor left the country to attend a family emergency earlier this month, leaving his assistant Khalil Ben Youssef in charge. In his absence, Chiefs have won their opening two league games and top the Betway Premiership. Ben Youssef said the Kaizer Chiefs coach is always in contact with the technical team despite being away. 'I think if the coach is here or is not here… we are technical staff, all of us are familiar, we work together, we keep in contact every day,' he told the media. 'Every training session we discuss, we meet via Zoom with the technical staff to discuss all the plans. 'We prepare the team together; Yes, physically, Coach Nabi is not here, but he's with us, we work together, we are a team. 'We help each other, and we don't think about who is not here, who is here – all technical staff work together,' Ben Youssef concluded. Nabi was in charge during Kaizer Chiefs' pre-season in the Netherlands, where the team lost four matches. His last game on the touchline was against Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup. Having missed two matches this season, Nabi is set to miss Amakhosi's third league match against Richards Bay on Tuesday. The club have not announced when the coach will return but there has been speculation that he might be back for the Mamelodi Sundowns match. Nabi became the first coach to lift a trophy for Kaizer Chiefs in 10 years. He did so by winning the Nedbank Cup. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. 'You cannot be happy about a draw!'

'I congratulate my boys to come back,' the Pirates coach did say, however. Orlando Pirates will host Stellenbosch on Wednesday in the Betway Premiership, with Abdeslam Ouaddou's Buccaneers still looking for their first win of the season. ALSO READ: – 'We must play to win' – Cardoso on Sundowns' MTN8 ambitions It has been an inauspicious start for Pirates' new head coach, though the Buccaneers showed signs of improvement in holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, in the first leg of their MTN8 semifinal. Pirates' Ouaddou – 'I am happy for that, that's it!' 'No you cannot be happy about a draw!,' said Ouaddou after Kamogelo Sebelebele's late strike had at least prevented a third consecutive defeat. 'I congratulate my boys to come back and equalise and bring at least a draw, and still give us an opportunity to go and win the next game. I am happy for that, that's it!' Ouaddou has changed his side around a lot in his first three games in charge, a sign that he is still searching for his best starting XI. On Saturday, Evidence Makgopa got his first start of the season, the striker impressing despite not getting on the scoresheet. 'Makgopa had a great performance. I am very happy with what I have seen,' added Ouaddou. 'Like all his teammates he showed great character today.' 'We have a lot of players. It is not easy for a coach,' said Ouaddou on his team. 'If (Gianni) Infantino changes the law next month (on substitutions) and allows more players on the field, we will be able to make more changes. Everyone is important, all the guys coming in have a chance to perform. 'We need everyone ready' 'They have to grab it and give everything for the team. We are a big club and will play many competitions and we need everyone ready.' Stellenbosch, like Pirates, are still searching for a first league win of the season. Steve Barker's side lost at home to Chiefs and followed that with a 1-1 draw away to Magesi.
