Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan gets a one-year extension in service
Mohan is scheduled to superannuate from service on September 30, 2025.
In the official order, a copy of which is with TNIE, the DoPT said, 'The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in services of Shri Govind Mohan, lAS (SK:89) as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs beyond the date of his superannuation i.e. 30.09.2025 up to 22.08.2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, in terms of the provisions of FR 56 (d) and Rule 16 (1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.'
Mohan was appointed as the Home Secretary of the country on August 14 last year, and he took charge of his new assignment in the North Block on August 23.
He was earlier serving as the Union Culture Secretary before being appointed to the top bureaucratic post, next only to the Cabinet Secretary.
Initially, he was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the MHA.
Among his peer group, Mohan is considered one of the brilliant officers currently serving the government and is known for his diligence. Earlier, he also served in the MHA as the additional secretary and had handled several key divisions, including the Union Territories and Border Management.

The Centre is ready to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in Parliament as long as 'certain rules' and conventions are followed, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday. The parliamentary affairs minister's comment came after an all-party meeting convened by the Union government ahead of the Monsoon Session. The Opposition has demanded discussions on a range of matters. This includes the terror attack in Pahalgam, United States President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and the special intensive revision of voter rolls being conducted in Bihar. Rijiju said that the government had 'patiently' heard suggestions from Opposition leaders and members of the ruling coalition during the all-party meeting. 'The government will never shy away from discussion unless it is prevented under certain rules or certain provisions,' he said. 'It is the moral responsibility of the PM to answer on these issues,' PTI quoted him as saying. Reiterating the demand on social media, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the Opposition had also flagged the situation in Manipur, the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the demand for Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh, among others. Kashi Declaration advocates consensus against drug abuse
The Youth Spiritual Summit on the theme Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat concluded at the Rudraksh International Convention Centre in Varanasi on Sunday with the formal adoption of the Kashi Declaration that affirmed a national consensus to tackle substance abuse as the event marked a key moment in the country's journey toward a drug-free society by 2047. It proposed institutional mechanisms for multi-ministerial coordination, including the formation of a Joint National Committee, annual progress reporting and a national platform for linking affected individuals to support services. Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the summit gathered over 600 youth leaders, representatives from 120+ spiritual and socio-cultural organisations, academicians, and domain experts. 'The Kashi Declaration is not just a document, but a shared Sankalp (resolve) for the Yuva Shakti of Bharat,' stated Union minister for youth affairs and sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya. 'Bharat's Spiritual strength has always guided Bharat through its crises. This is why spiritual institutions must now lead the charge in creating a Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat. They will serve as the backbone of this Maha Abhiyan,' he added. Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said: 'This sacred land of Kashi is the cradle of Sanatan Chetna (eternal consciousness), where discipline and values guide life's journey towards moksha. We are not just gathering; we are sowing seeds that will one day grow into a strong tree of national transformation.' He further cautioned: 'If a nation where 65% of the population is youth falls prey to addiction, only those who break free from it will be able to build the future.' The summit featured deliberations across four plenary sessions. These deliberations formed the foundation of the Kashi Declaration that will serve as a guiding charter, with progress to be reviewed during the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026. The keynote address of Session 4 was delivered by Nitin Agarwal, minister of state (independent charge) for excise and prohibition, Uttar Pradesh. Several dignitaries participated in sessions. They included Union minister for social justice and empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar, Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Uttar Pradesh minister for labour and employment Anil Rajbhar, Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai, Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse and Uttar Pradesh sports minister Girish Chandra Yadav. Parliament Monsoon Session begins today on a stormy note. INDIA bloc to corner Govt on Operation Sindoor, other issues
Parliament Monsoon Session: The Monsoon Session of the Parliament is all set to begin today, July 21 on a stormy note with Opposition INDIA bloc ready to corner the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on a host of issues. This is the first session of Parliament being held after Operation Sindoor, India's precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. The session will run until August 21. Both the Houses will, however, be adjourned on August 12, 2025, to reassemble on August 18, 2025, to facilitate Independence Day Celebrations. The Session will have a total of 21 sittings spread over a period of 32 days. Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said on Sunday that tentatively 17 items of legislative and other business have been identified for being taken up during this session. This includes 15 bills. Rijiju said that the Union government is open to discussing all issues in Parliament, including Operation Sindoor. He, however, said that any debate on the subject has to be held within the laid-down rules and procedures. Opposition parties have insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond on Operation Sindoor, as well as on US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan. They also demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Rijiju, however, made it clear that the final call on discussions in Parliament will be taken by the Business Advisory Committees of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The government has listed at least 15 bills or introduction and passing in this session of Parliamemt. These include: -Income Tax Bill, 2025: This was introduced in the Lok Sabha on February 13 and referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) chaired by BJP MP Baijayant Panda. Opposition has been insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks in Parliament on Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan. Congress MP and deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, said the opposition would demand the prime minister's presence in Parliament and urge him to respond to the issues raised. 'Parliament is more important than travelling abroad,' Tiwari told PTI. PM Modi will visit the United Kingdom and the Maldives between 23 and 26 July 2025.
