The Minnesota Timberwolves are among the teams most interested in trading for superstar Kevin Durant, which also renders them among the most likely landing spots for the future Hall of Fame forward.

Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe on the June 12 edition of "The Bill Simmons Podcast" named the Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs as the two franchises with the most buzz in NBA circles with regards to a Durant trade this summer.
Both of the longtime league insiders dubbed the Spurs as the more likely destination given San Antonio's viable trade assets -- both in terms of current players and draft picks. However, Ian Begley of SNYtv authored an X report on Saturday, June 14, that supports a version of a Durant deal that might favor Minnesota.
"One thing worth noting on potential Kevin Durant trades: there are important Suns voices who want to add a starting-caliber [center] this offseason," Begley wrote. "There are several pathways to do this, but KD trade obviously gives PHX the clearest path to one. As many others have said, MIN is among teams with current interest in Durant. Nothing has changed for me with the Knicks and Durant, despite the reported interest earlier this week. Still see it at as a long shot that Durant ends up in NY."

Lowe noted the combination of Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker and Gobert as "a thing" during his appearance on Simmons' podcast Thursday.
Gobert is a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star who has been a big part of two consecutive trips for the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals.
He averaged 12 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks per game last season at the age of 32. Meanwhile, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game during his age-36 campaign with the Suns in 2024-25.

Yankees' scoreless streak grows to 29 innings with anemic loss to Angels
Kyle Hendricks and three relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Los Angeles Angels beat the slumping New York Yankees 4-0 on Tuesday night, handing them their third straight shutout loss. New York manager Aaron Boone tinkered with his lineup, batting rookie Jasson Domínguez first and dropping Paul Goldschmidt to sixth, but it didn't yield results for the Yankees, who were 0 for 10 with runners on and got just three to second base. Aaron Judge went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts and heard boos following whiffs in the sixth and eighth. He is 2 for 19 with 12 strikeouts over his last five games. The Yankees, who haven't scored in 29 innings since the ninth inning of a 4-3 loss at Boston on Saturday, were last blanked in three consecutive games from Sept. 22-24, 2016. They have never been shut out in four straight games. Hendricks (5-6) allowed four hits and walked one while striking out nine -- his most since he whiffed 10 for the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 18, 2020. Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers and Hunter Strickland tossed a hitless inning apiece for the Angels, who threw consecutive shutouts for the first time since Aug. 26-27, 2022. Taylor Ward hit a two-run single in the fourth. Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel each had an RBI. Yankees starter Will Warren (4-4) gave up three runs in six innings while striking out a career-high 11. He retired the last 11 batters he faced. KEY MOMENT Ward's single off the glove of third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the fourth straight one-out hit off Warren and extended the Angels' lead to 3-0. KEY STAT The Yankees are the third team this season to get shut out in three consecutive games, following the Cincinnati Reds (April 1-3) and Colorado Rockies (April 11-13). No team has been blanked in four straight games since the Kansas City Royals in August 2017. UP NEXT Yankees LHP Ryan Yarbrough (3-1, 3.96 ERA) opposes Angels RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-8, 5.53) on Wednesday night.

MLB Execs Defend Red Sox After Wild Rafael Devers Trade
MLB Execs Defend Red Sox After Wild Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A large portion of the MLB world was stunned by the Boston Red Sox deciding to trade away their superstar designated hitter, Rafael Devers, to the San Francisco Giants. The move drew considerable scrutiny from Red Sox fans and fans around baseball. Advertisement But, despite the major questions sent Boston's way, there were a significant number of MLB executives around baseball who defended and understood the Red Sox's decision to ship Devers to San Francisco. According to an article from Mark Feinsand on rival executives around baseball defended Craig Breslow's decision to trade away Devers. They also defended the return Boston received, which was another major point of contention for the Red Sox fan base. "'On the Surface,' Feinsand reports. "It feels like a relationship gone bad that was mismanaged from the beginning,' an AL exec said. 'This is probably a welcome outcome.'" Calling the trade of Devers a "welcome outcome" doesn't account for the fanbase's reaction, as the move was out of nowhere right after a key sweep of the New York Yankees to get back into a Wild Card spot, and back above .500. Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow speaks to the media during the MLB General Managers' Meetings at Omni Scottsdale Resort & J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Another executive shared his thoughts on the return package for Devers, which had been highly questioned. Feinsand reported that one executive said, "'It's a pretty good return considering that Boston didn't have many options,' and an AL executive said... 'I was surprised they got real talent back while moving all of that money.'" Advertisement The major talking point for this deal has been the Red Sox shedding the entirety of Devers' contract. While getting out of that deal is nice, the result is still that the Red Sox will no longer have Devers in the lineup. There are plenty of other comments that Feinsand includes in his story. From executives making propositions to acquire other stars with the freed-up money, to concern over how much Devers is owed when he's effectively a full-time designated hitter. But, from the fan's perspective, losing a fan favorite like Devers will always sting. It's even worse when the return doesn't match what the fan base was looking for if that star player was traded. Breslow and the Red Sox are entering a time in the franchise's history with a lot of turnover. From the young prospects getting the call to the big leagues, to veterans like Devers being sent out, the Red Sox are beginning to restructure their MLB roster. Red Sox Expected to 'Shop Aggressively' at MLB Trade Deadline After Rafael Devers Trade
Red Sox Expected to 'Shop Aggressively' at MLB Trade Deadline After Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Once the Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, there was reasonable doubt if the Red Sox would be buyers at the deadline. They just sold their best offensive player, so shipping off more of their assets would be surprising. Advertisement However, according to a new report from Chris Cotillo of the Red Sox aren't expected to be done yet, and in fact, are expected to target players at the MLB trade deadline. "The Devers deal opens the door for a major trade deadline addition of a controllable," Cotillo writes. "High-dollar player and a high-ranking source indicated Sunday that the Red Sox, at 37-36 after a big weekend sweep of the Yankees, still wholeheartedly intend to buy at the trade deadline and shop aggressively." This report is an indication that the Red Sox are targeting certain players, or have a player they want to spend a lot of their assets on trying to acquire. While unlikely, Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates fits the bill that Cotillo describes. A high-cost player on the trade block doesn't happen often. But if one does make an appearance, the Red Sox are expected to be involved. Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow talks with the media at George M. Steinbrenner Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Whether this report comes to fruition or not, it's a necessary step for the Red Sox to make in their efforts to quell the irate fan base amid their frustration over the Devers trade. If the Devers trade led the team to getting a Skenes, or another high-profile player, then it would be significantly more palatable. Advertisement However, that kind of deal is hard to come by. And with there being very few players who fit the description, the Red Sox might not have the ability to add a player of that caliber. Not because they didn't try, but because none were available. But, at the very least, the decision to still be buyers, especially if they're still in contention, is an exciting proposition in the build-up to the MLB trade deadline. Boston and Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow will look to make a major move at the trade deadline. But with limited options and the potential to fall out of contention, the Red Sox might not be in a position to make such a move.
