Azza Fahmy Debuts Beach Club at Ramla on Egypt's North Coast
Azza Fahmy's collaboration at MARAKEZ's Ramla on the North Coast brings a culturally rich clubhouse that's far from ordinary.
Along the curve of Ras El Hekma's coastline, where the desert exhales into the sea, a new kind of summer space is taking shape. Ramla - MARAKEZ's flagship North Coast development - is about to gain a clubhouse unlike anything on the shore. Opening in summer 2026, the Azza Fahmy Ramla Beach Clubhouse brings the legendary design house into new territory, both literally and creatively.
This isn't a brand pop-up or a seasonal stunt. It's an extension of Azza Fahmy's design world, translated into architecture, atmosphere, and a lived coastal rhythm. In collaboration with MARAKEZ, the clubhouse becomes a physical expression of shared values: precision, heritage, beauty that lingers.
At 750 square meters, the space is more sanctuary than showpiece - 250 indoors, 500 outdoors - with thoughtful nods to Egyptian craft embedded throughout. Ornamental details draw from the same lexicon that has defined Fahmy's jewellery for decades: calligraphic flourishes, historical echoes, and layered symbolism woven into contemporary form.
For Azza Fahmy CEO Fatma Ghaly, the clubhouse represents an evolution. 'This collaboration gives us a new canvas,' she tells #SceneTraveller. 'We've always been storytellers, now those stories can be experienced on a spatial, sensory level.'
That sensory palette is carefully curated. Design, sound, scent, and culinary expression all orbit around a unified creative vision - subtle, immersive, and rooted in place. Visitors will find exclusive merchandise here too, created especially for Ramla, though the clubhouse resists being defined by retail. It's meant to be felt, not just browsed.
For MARAKEZ, the project reflects a broader shift in how destination design is approached. 'Ramla is about creating meaningful moments,' says CEO Basil Ramzy. 'This partnership with Azza Fahmy allows us to tap into something deeper, something emotional, cultural, and lasting.'
More than just a summer address, the clubhouse sets a new tone for how Egyptian design can live beyond galleries or boutiques. It opens up a slower, more intentional way of engaging with space, one that mirrors the sea just metres away. Expansive, reflective, quietly unforgettable.

Egypt studies converting Helwan Iron into textile industries complex

Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir has announced that the government is studying the conversion of the Helwan Iron and Steel Company into a major complex for textile industries and supporting industries for ready-made garments, with the aim of attracting foreign investments and boosting local value-added. Al-Wazir directed ministry officials to strengthen integration across industrial chains and deepen complementary industries for the garments sector, in order to reduce the import bill for production inputs. The announcement came during his visit to Technotex Factory, part of El-Nile Group, located in the Second Industrial Zone in 15th of May City. The facility, spanning 55,000 sqm, has an annual production capacity of 9.5 million pieces and a local component ratio of 35%. It exports 100% of its output, valued at EGP 3bn annually, to 12 international markets including the United States, Europe, and Turkey. The group currently employs 5,000 workers. During the visit, Al-Wazir inspected the production halls for shirts, trousers, packaging, the laser section, and the washing unit. He also reviewed the group's 2026 plan presented by factory director Walid Kamal, which targets raising production capacity to 14.7 million pieces annually, increasing the workforce to 8,000 employees, and expanding exports to EGP 4.7bn. The minister praised the factory's performance and emphasised the competitiveness of Egyptian ready-made garments in global markets. He underscored the sector's importance as a labour-intensive, energy-efficient industry in which Egypt enjoys a strong reputation, stressing that the country has all the ingredients to advance it — from raw material availability and skilled labour to advanced technology and knowledge.

Egypt exported around 210,000 tonnes of food and agricultural products last week, according to a report by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) released by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA). The shipments, totalling 3,400 consignments, were carried out by 1,220 companies. The consignments covered nearly 660 categories of food products, including molasses (black honey), vegetables, tubers, fruits, and processed food products. Vegetable exports reached 30,000 tonnes, led by sweet potatoes (11,000 tonnes), followed by mixed vegetables (5,000 tonnes) and onions (4,000 tonnes), across a total of 45 vegetable varieties. Fruit exports amounted to 26,000 tonnes, with strawberries (8,000 tonnes) topping the list, followed by mangoes (7,000 tonnes) and pomegranates (4,000 tonnes), across 30 varieties. Egyptian products reached 180 international markets, with Italy, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom among the top importers. In terms of export hubs, Alexandria Port ranked first with 520 consignments, followed by Safaga Port (510) and Cairo International Airport (437). To support the sector, the NFSA issued 1,000 health certificates for exports last week under the standardised mechanism adopted earlier this year, ensuring compliance with global safety requirements and strengthening confidence in Egyptian exports.
