Local high school ‘1 step closer' to winning state softball championship
A Miami Valley high school has advanced to the state softball championship.

The Kenton Ridge Cougars beat Lexington, 4-3, in the Division IV softball state semifinals in Akron Wednesday.

The Cougars trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh and scored twice to win.

Lexington walked Lily Foulk and Brenna Fyffe to load the bases with one out in the seventh.
J.J. Davis hit a walk-off single to centerfield to win it. She drove in three runs against Lexington.
'Our Kenton Ridge Cougars Softball Team (is) ready to roar into the Division IV State Finals,' the Northeastern Local School District said on social media. 'They're one step closer to bringing home the championship title!'
The Cougars remain undefeated at 31-0.
They play Hillsboro today at 3 p.m. for the Division IV state championship at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The university said in a statement online that he earned both his bachelor's degree and master's degree at Xavier. He was ordained in 1956 and began working full-time at Xavier in 1998. 'He was so popular with students that in 2003, a group of 130 alumni from 1969-1974 created a scholarship fund in his honor and surprised him with it on his 75th birthday,' the university said. Foster care agency begins donor-funded building expansion, increases access to services
An area foster care agency is breaking ground on building expansions to accommodate its growth. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Isaiah's Place, located at 61 Stanfield Road in Troy, announced on social media Friday morning that they are working with Level MB Construction on building expansions. 'Isaiah's Place has been one of the fastest-growing foster care agencies in the state of Ohio for the last year and a half. Because of this, we have used every square inch of our building to make room for offices, trainings, meetings, Child Advocacy observations and investigations, as well as therapy rooms for our families,' a spokesperson for Isaiah's Place said in the post. BYU coach Kevin Young signs contract extension after Sweet 16 run
After a stellar debut season, BYU coach Kevin Young was rewarded with a long-term contract extension, the school announced on Thursday. Details of the agreement, including length of the deal and monetary value, were not disclosed. According to a news release, the extension 'will keep Young in Provo for the foreseeable future.' 'My family and I have loved our first year at BYU, being surrounded by great people, at a great university with shared values,' Young said in a statement. 'I'm excited to continue to build a program based on trying to help young men prepare for the NBA, win at the highest level and do it at BYU.' Young guided the Cougars to a 26-10 record in 2024-25 and an appearance in the Sweet 16 -- BYU's first since 2011. It also marked the Cougars' most wins in a season since 2016. Such success sets up high expectations for BYU next season, especially after the Cougars landed the country's top overall prospect in A.J. Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9 small forward who could be the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft. Behind Dybantsa, BYU boasted the No. 13-ranked recruiting class for 2025, according to ESPN.
