Local fashion brand The Closet Lover is shutting down this June after 17 years of operation
Running a business in Singapore is no walk in the park – which makes The Closet Lover's (TCL) 17-year run all the more impressive. But even good things come to an end, and the beloved homegrown fashion label has announced that it will officially close on June 15, 2025.
Founded by sisters Bertilla and Brianna Wong, TCL began in 2007 as a humble blogshop run out of their bedroom, with the duo packing orders by hand. Over the years, the brand gained a following for its wide range of apparel, from casual staples to chic occasion wear, offering styles that are versatile for anyone and everyone. TCL soon became a favourite among local shoppers and eventually opened three physical stores in Orchard, Bugis, and Tampines. Today, the brand boasts over 137,000 followers on Instagram.
The decision to close down was a personal one. Both sisters have been diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks healthy tissue. While Bertilla's condition has remained under control, Brianna's health has recently deteriorated. The sisters have chosen to prioritise rest and recovery, stepping away from the business to focus on Brianna's well-being.
Although no future plans for TCL have been confirmed, fans can look forward to one final collection that is set to launch on May 25.
In the meantime, TCL will continue its weekly livestreams. From May 19, shoppers will no longer be able to earn cashback or points, and all existing rewards must be redeemed by June 15. Do note that returns and exchanges will no longer be accepted from June 1 onwards.

FC United ready for ‘next grand phrase' as breakaway club mark 20th anniversary
FC United want to continue being an 'antidote' to modern football as the breakaway club celebrate their 20th anniversary and prepare for the 'next grand phase'. The Glazer family's controversial takeover at Manchester United was the catalyst for the club's foundation on June 14, 2005, offering an affordable, inclusive and fan-owned alternative for disenfranchised supporters. FCUM reached the National League North and built a 4,900-capacity stadium within a decade and now the goal is for the Northern Premier League Premier Division side to kick on again. View this post on Instagram A post shared by F.C United of Manchester (@fcutdofmanc) 'I think the future's bright,' chair Nick Boom told PA. 'I think we're about to enter into our next grand phase. 'I think there's been about 10 years of challenge, of moving into that ground and a realisation that the club's probably overstretched itself a bit in the clamour to get in there. 'Then we've spent a lot of time trying to kind of get the club into a position where it's financially stable, and it feels like we now have got to a position where we can kind of invest. There's loads going on.' FCUM recently made headlines when United great Eric Cantona became a member, along with his two brothers and four children. Eric Cantona is now a co-owner of FC United of Manchester. Because at our club, fans aren't just supporters – they're owners. Join Eric as a co-owner: — FC United of Manchester 🟥⬜⬛ (@FCUnitedMcr) April 5, 2025 That played a part in interest in the club going 'off the scale', as did March's joint protest at their Broadhurst Park home against the Glazers with United fan group The 1958. 'In my view, FC wasn't just created in protest alone,' Boom said. 'It was created in hope – the hope that football could do more, (be) more democratic and truly rooted in its communities. 'The Glazers coming along was a seismic event. We're not happy to say that we were right back then in terms of the Glazer takeover and what it would do to Manchester United. 'The modern game's almost drowning in money, and you could argue that it's starving in soul. FC United were built as an antidote to that.' FCUM are now working on what the next decade looks like. Their ambitions off the field are as important as anything they do on it, with board member Paul Hurst speaking of Broadhurst Park being 'an anchor facility' for the community. 'Whether it's the football pitches outside or the rooms inside, I think for me over the next 10 years it's about how do we use the power of football to better and help and support the local community,' he told PA. 'We're probably getting that generation of fans, of kids, who are saying 'FC United are my local team'. 'As well as something for them to do on a Saturday, it's there for them throughout the week to support them and give them something to do, plays a part in their education, health, whatever it may be.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by F.C United of Manchester (@fcutdofmanc) Boom says, unlike some clubs, the community program is central to FCUM, who are planning for next season under the tagline 'football, fans, community'. 'We've done a lot of talking about the past and history, but the future is probably what's most important to us,' he said. 'Can we show there's a different way in football? 'We think there's an absolute place, and we're real proof after 20 years, that supporters can run football clubs.' Hurst added: 'It's really core to our identity that we believe that the football club should be entirely owned by the fans. 'That comes with its challenges but I think that's where we are as a club that's maybe different to some of the other stories over the last 20 years.'

Jill Scott's sad wedding admission, forcing Soccer Aid apology, millionaire net worth
Jill Scott's sad wedding admission, forcing Soccer Aid apology, millionaire net worth Jill Scott has become one of the most beloved figures in the UK since calling time on her football career, leading a hectic life that means she's often away from her home in Manchester Jill Scott is engaged to Shelly Unitt, the sister of her former team-mate Rachel (Image: PA ) Jill Scott returns to the football pitch as England take on the World XI for Soccer Aid 2025. The Lionesses legend became a household name when Sarina Wiegman's side won Euro 2022 on home turf at Wembley. Her profile grew further when she was crowned the Queen of the Jungle on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! later that year. But Jill, 38, remains grounded, telling OK!: "To be honest, I'm faking my life half of the time." When she's not feeling like a pretender, she leads a quiet and modest life in Manchester with partner Shelly. Is Jill Scott married? Scott and partner Shelly are believed to have first met through Jill's former England and Everton team-mate Rachel Unitt, who is Shelly's older sister. They've been together for nearly a decade and got engaged in 2020. However, they've not yet wed, with Jill explaining to OK! that various roadblocks have got in their way and they simply "haven't had the time" to organise the big day. 'It's been so busy that we're like passing ships at times," she said in October 2023. "We're definitely starting to think about what we want to do. We've been engaged for nearly four years now, but with Covid and lockdown happening, we sort of lost momentum for a while. Article continues below 'But Shelly and I have finally been making some wedding plans and we're definitely in the swing of things now.' Jill recently marked Shelly's 40th birthday with a party, helped by her partner's daughters (Image: Instagram/shellyunitt ) What does Jill Scott do now? It's no surprise that Jill and Shelly have struggled to squeeze in a wedding when taking into account all of their commitments. Shelly has balanced her career as a community health officer while running the coffee shop they own, Boxx2Boxx. Jill chips in with the hard graft at the shop when she's not appearing on our TV screens. She's moved into punditry for both men's and women's football since hanging up her boots, as well as being a captain on Sky's game show A League of Their Own. And she's a regular on the weekly Stick to Football podcast, joining co-hosts Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Ian Wright. On Sunday, she'll return for her third Soccer Aid appearance. Their coffee shop frequently has famous visitors like Jill's Sky colleague Jamie Redknapp (Image: Instagram/boxx2boxxcoffee ) Why did Jill Scott swear? Jill delivered one of the most memorable moments of the Euro 2022 final after being fouled by Germany's Sydney Lohmann, with cameras catching her fuming: "F*** off you f*****g p****." She doesn't look back on it as her finest hour, telling FourFourTwo how she's quick to encourage Shelly's two children, Evie and Hattie, not to follow suit. "I must say I don't like swearing, if I ever hear kids swear I pull them up on it. But I didn't have a leg to stand on in that moment, but we won and hopefully people remember the football rather than what I might have accidentally said," she said. Sydney Lohmann quickly found out not to mess with Jill (Image: UEFA via Getty Images ) However, it seems Jill hasn't learnt her lesson, because she was caught dropping another F-bomb at last year's Soccer Aid. Overhitting a pass was the reason for her frustration on this occasion, forcing ITV to issue an apology live on air. Commentator Sam Matterface told viewers: 'I don't know if you noticed it, I certainly didn't, but there may have been, just may have been, some rather industrial language that emanated from Jill Scott's mouth when she missed the chance. If that was the case, we do apologise!' Co-commentator Iain Stirling then joked: 'We'll apologise on Jill Scott's behalf, just in case. I'm actually getting fed up apologising on Jill Scott's behalf. She needs to wash her mouth out with soap quite frankly!' Swearing on camera has become a bit of a habit for the former midfielder (Image: ITV ) What is Jill Scott's net worth? After a football career spanning nearly two decades, Jill was estimated to be a millionaire, with various reports valuing her between £1.3million and £3.4m. That was before her stint on I'm A Celeb, which is said to have banked her a six-figure fee, albeit telling Good Morning Britain it was "a lot lower" than Matt Hancock's £320k payday. As per The Sun, she went on to make £720k in 2023, with equity in her company, Jill Scott 8 Ltd, rising to £1.2m. She also made two payments of £50k and £300k to herself. Article continues below With her media work showing no sign of slowing down, her net worth is set to continue rising in the seven figures for the foreseeable future. Although Sunday's action at Old Trafford is all about raising money for UNICEF's projects to help vulnerable children around the world.
