CTV News Kitchener nominated for four regional RTDNA awards

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) of Canada is recognizing CTV News Kitchener for their work on several stories.
The finalists have been announced for the RTDNA 2025 Central Region Awards, which honour journalists, programs, stations and newsgathering organizations across radio, television and digital markets throughout the country.
CTV News Kitchener has made the list in four categories:
Continuing Coverage (small/medium market) for ongoing work following the story of the University of Waterloo stabber, Geovanny Villalba-Aleman
Investigative Excellence for coverage of allegations of unpaid wages and contracts at Dutchie's Fresh Food Market in Kitchener
Feature News (small/medium market) for the story of a WWE superfan who got the surprise of a lifetime after he was told a lack of accessible seating would prevent him from seeing a highly anticipated wrestling show in Toronto
TV Newscast (small/medium market) for a broadcast featuring stories about fireworks, shootings and encampments
The winners will be announced on June 4.

Crime Stoppers says police learned a man used a torch to ignite several spools of wire at the Nova Scotia Power station at 2998 Highway 2 around 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday. A similar incident happened near the station earlier in the day. Crime Stoppers says the fire was quickly extinguished. 'The prospect of having a fire in the heavy populated area of Fall River would be devastating to our community so please help police solve this crime,' a news release says. Underage driver crashes into Repentigny, Que., home after police pursuit

A minor crashed a vehicle into a home in Repentigny early Thursday following a police chase, with no injuries reported. Quebec provincial police (SQ) are investigating after a minor crashed a vehicle into a home in Repentigny, Que., early Thursday morning. According to the SQ, around 2:30 a.m., officers from the Mascouche station tried to intercept the vehicle on Highway 40 after it failed to stop, triggering a police chase. Shortly before 3 a.m., the vehicle collided with a residence in the Boulevard L'Assomption area of the off-island Montreal suburb. An SQ spokesperson said officers were no longer in pursuit when the collision occurred. 'The officers arrested the underage driver. They could face charges such as reckless driving and dangerous driving,' the spokesperson said. The minor was released pending an investigation. No injuries were reported.
