Ireland squad for USA games as one player misses out over family bereavement
Arsenal's Champions League winning star Katie McCabe has been given permission to skip the games. Ward said earlier this month that the Tallaght native was 'on the verge of burnout' after a busy season for club and country.
Also unavailable for selection are Aoife Mannion, Heather Payne, Tara O'Hanlon, Jamie Finn, Lily Agg, Jess Ziu and Leanne Kiernan.
Shelbourne midfielder Aoibheann Clancy is also out. Ward, her staff and players have sent their condolences to Clancy following the passing of her mother, Siobhan.
'The WNT players & staff send their condolences to midfielder Aoibheann Clancy following the passing of her mother, Siobhan. She is being given the time to deal with this difficult period and has the full support of the WNT squad,' read a line in the press release detailing Ward's squad.
Ireland will take on the world's top ranked nation in two friendlies - on Thursday June 26 in Denver, Colorado (2am Irish time) and Sunday June 29 in Cincinnati (8pm Irish time).
Defender Hayley Nolan and midfielder Ellen Molloy receive their first call-ups under Ward.
Nolan last featured for Ireland on their most recent US tour in April 2023, while Molloy's return is on the back of impressive performances with Wexford.
'The two games against the USA are an opportunity for us to work together on a number of things – both on and off the pitch – as we build towards the UEFA Nations League Play-Off against Belgium in October,' said Ward.
'We will be coming up against the best team in women's football, so we will have a plan for those games but it's also important that we make the most out of this camp as a whole.
'When these games were first proposed to us we knew that we would be without certain players, but that opens the door for others to step up.
'We are building, camp by camp, so we are looking forward to getting together again and putting in some extra work that will stand to us moving forward.'

Sarah Healy seals Diamond League top spot despite ninth-place finish in Silesia
Sarah Healy didn't need a podium finish to cement her place at the summit of the Diamond League standings CLOUD NINE Sarah Healy seals Diamond League top spot despite ninth-place finish in Silesia IRELAND'S Sarah Healy has secured top spot in the women's 1500m Wanda Diamond League standings. And that is despite only finishing ninth in Saturday's race in Silesia. 2 Sarah Healy still remains in top place in the Diamond League standings 2 The UCD star heads the pack heading into the final meet of the series in Zurich Advertisement The UCD star had already done enough to qualify for the Zurich final on 28 August - meaning she couldn't be caught at the summit. There's over €25,000 up for grabs in the showpiece race. World champion Gudaf Tsegay blitzed the field in Poland, setting a furious pace by going through 800m in under two minutes before storming home in 3:50.62. Her triumph was just shy of Faith Kipyegon's 2023 world record of 3:49.11. Advertisement Healy stayed in the pack throughout and crossed in 3:57.95 to cross the line in ninth. Her time also meant that she was inside the automatic qualifying standard for next year's European Athletics Championships. Sharlene Mawdsley and Andrew Coscoran caught up in Michael Johnson's $13m athletics pay row as Grand Slam Track folds
Olympic legend Michael Johnson's bold new track and field venture has hit the wall RUN DOWN Sharlene Mawdsley and Andrew Coscoran caught up in Michael Johnson's $13m athletics pay row as Grand Slam Track folds IRISH track and field stars Sharlene Mawdsley and Andrew Coscoran have found themselves caught in the fallout of Michael Johnson's 'Grand Slam Track' crisis. The former US Olympic champions is facing a financial crisis - with $13million still owed to athletes. 3 US former Olympic athlete and Grand Slam Track head Michael Johnson has been forced to fold the series due to financial issues 3 Irish star Sharlene Mawdsley ran in the Philadelphia 400m meet earlier this year Advertisement 3 Andrew Coscoran competed in the Miami event if the Grand Slam Track series The bold new track and field league, launched this year by Olympic legend Johnson, promised huge prize pots and global exposure. But just three meets into its debut season, after events in Kingston, Miami and Philadelphia - the final showpiece in Los Angeles was scrapped. It's cancellation apparently has left athletes waiting for money they earned. Advertisement In a lengthy statement released on social media, Johnson revealed the shocking news that GST will not take place in 2026 unless athletes receive their prize money for this year - presumably implying that athletes have yet to be compensated. Among the competitors were Tipperary native Mawdsley, who competed in Philadelphia with a 51.12 run in the 400m (5th place), and 23.24 in the 200m (6th), banking $15,000 in prize money. Balbriggan ace Andrew Coscoran also competed at the Miami meet, and 'earned' $50,000 as runner-up. The Dublin athlete had already claimed victory in the 3,000m on Friday night to bag 12 points, and another win would have secured him the $100,000 top prize. Advertisement However, Coscoran had to settle for third place in the 5,000m, adding six points to his tally. The race was won by American Grant Fisher in 13:40.32, which proved enough to clinch the overall prize. League bosses admitted the competition will be on hold until debts are cleared, with Johnson posting: 'GST will not return until 2025 obligations are paid.' It's a huge blow to athletes, who had been enticed by record-breaking payouts of up to $100,000 per race win and a promise to reshape athletics. Inside Sharlene Mawdsley's 'delicious' yet atypical Tenerife holiday with GAA star boyfriend Mikey Breen For now, the Irish pair can only focus their training and hope the saga doesn't derail momentum in what has been a stunning season.
