Moving Forward Step By Step To Organise Commonwealth Games: Gujarat Government

NDTV4 days ago
The Gujarat government is moving forward step by step to organise the Commonwealth Games in 2030, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Harsh Sanghavi said on Wednesday. He was addressing the media against the backdrop of a visit by officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by its Director of Games Darren Hall, last week. India had submitted an Expression of Interest (EoI) to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad selected as the host city.
"Last week, senior officials of the Commonwealth Games visited Gujarat. They visited different places mentioned in our proposal where various games can be played," Sanghvi said.
The minister said the EoI follows several steps.
"There is a detailed procedure for it (bidding for Commonwealth Games). We are also going step by step for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games," he said, adding that the bidding process will continue.
A team from Commonwealth Sport (earlier known as Commonwealth Games Federation) landed in Ahmedabad last Tuesday. The team inspected the prospective venues and interacted with Gujarat government officials.
India's chances of getting the 2030 CWG has brightened after Canada pulled out of the bidding race last month. India will have to submit proposals for the final bid ahead of the August 31 deadline.
The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decide the host country in the last week of November in Glasgow.
"The host selection will be based on sustainability, athletic centre, flexibility in terms of regional appeal, there needs to be flexibility in terms of the host nations taken," Harpal Singh, IOA executive member and member of the Sports Committee of Commonwealth Sports, had said last month.

CM pledges to rejuvenate Yamuna, build world-class infra

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in her maiden Independence Day speech on Friday, pledged to rejuvenate the Yamuna and assured people that her government would develop world-class infrastructure. During the event at the Chhatrasal Stadium amid a heavy downpour, she announced that her government would form a welfare board for gig workers to ensure their wellbeing. She stressed that her government was working to address the issue of waterlogging and better roads. "I pledge to rejuvenate the Yamuna. Our government is working from day one to clean it. Several promises were made to clean the Yamuna, but little was achieved. Yamuna will be clean to an extent that we will be able to see the Sun's reflection in its waters, and we will be able to perform veneration on its banks," the chief minister added. Assuring people that Delhi would soon be the city of dreams, she said the BJP government was committed to providing Delhi with an infrastructure that is the best in the country. Highlighting the achievements of her government, Gupta said it recently passed a bill to regulate fees of private schools as she stressed that "we are the custodians of the pockets of parents". The chief minister emphasised that her government had promised to provide the highest rewards to medal winners in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. "For the first time, we will ensure job security for the youth who contribute to the growth and development of sports in Delhi," she added. In the nearly half-an-hour-long speech, Gupta said the Delhi government will provide a pucca house to every slum resident in the capital and will also open Atal Canteens to provide food to the needy at Rs 5.

New Delhi: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is making preparations to launch a completely new digital platform called EPFO 3.0. It will be an app. To create and maintain this digitally advanced IT system, EPFO has selected the country's three largest IT companies – TCS, Infosys and Wipro. This information has come to light in a circular issued by the EPFO. When was the 2025 Expression of Interest sent by the EPFO? According to the news published in the Free Press Journal, earlier, on June 16, 2025, an Expression of Interest (EOI) was sent by the EPFO to companies specialising in managing large-scale digital platforms. After reviewing all the applications, EPFO selected TCS, Infosys and Wipro. Which companies were selected for the next phase? According to EPFO, on the basis of evaluation, Infosys Limited, TCS Limited and Wipro Limited are suitable. They have been shortlisted to participate in the next phase of the selection process. However, it is clearly stated in the circular that shortlisting does not mean that any legal or official contract has been given yet. This is just an administrative step. There is only one purpose of launching EPFO 3.0: to make it more modern and advanced than before. With its launch, millions of subscribers will get better service from EPFO. What kind of facilities will be available with its launch? Auto Claim Settlement: Now the settlement of claims will be done through automated system. This will end the hassle of processing manually. This will make the system faster and more efficient than before. Online account change: With the new app, you will no longer need to go to the EPFO office to update account details like name or date of birth, rather users will be able to update it online from home. OTP verification: With the new update, OTP verification process will now start in place of the traditional form based process. This means that any change related to the account can be confirmed through OTP (one-time password). PF withdrawal from ATM: After the claim is approved, subscribers will now get the facility to withdraw PF money from ATM just like bank transactions.
