Charlotte: Welcome to our In The Spotlight video with Railbookers. Raj, let's start by talking about the trips and destinations that are proven popular for departures this year, and tell us how far in advance – or even last-minute – agents can book with you.
Raj: Thank you so much for having me on here with yourself, and TTG as well. So I think if you look at some of our top-selling destinations that we have this year for 2025, we have the likes of Switzerland, we have Italy. These are our most popular ones that we always have. But then we've had Norway, and Scandinavia – it's phenomenal in terms of what it's offering. Portugal and then Canada, these are our top five selling areas at the moment.
But globally, we're offering lovely independent tailormade holidays throughout the globe. And as you can appreciate, we are seeing a number of clients booking a lot later, so we can do last-minute bookings as well as booking out as far as 2027, so two years out.
Charlotte: Fabulous. Thank you. And give us an idea of what a Railbookers holiday looks like.
Raj: Think of us as a tour operator. We include anything that a tour operator offers. So think of us offering hotels, your flights, your sightseeing, with transfers and rail being the main component of the holiday. This is the key thing that we're doing.
So when you think of Railbookers, it's anything that a customer wants, in a tailormade itinerary. So whether it be a short stay or a multi-centre holiday, going coast-to-coast journeys, or a luxury trip of a lifetime along some of the iconic routes around the world, this is what we do.
We can also add rail. This is quite an important part for those clients who don't want to fly. We can add rail from the UK travelling into continental Europe. We can add rail from the UK stations as well, which is quite exciting. So it makes that convenience of a trip and again, especially for those clients who don't want to fly.
Charlotte: Thank you. And not all agents will be aware of everything they can do with Railbookers, including your luxury products, so tell us what's available across your portfolio.
Raj: So again, when you look at our what we do, our relationships include a lot of the national rail companies in Europe, in North America and Canada.
So when you're considering the wide range of holidays that we include, they do include luxury rail journeys, hotels and companies that have some world-leading portfolios. Just giving you a few examples here. So you've got customers that may want to combine something like your Swiss railways with the Bernina and Glacier Express, VIA Rail in Canada with the Rocky Mountaineer, the Indian railways with The Maharajas' Express.
Or if you're traveling in Italy, you've got Trenitalia in Italy with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. These are all classic rail journeys, but then we combine those with our great range of properties across the globe, ranging from say, Mecure, Holiday Inns, Hiltons, through to luxury brands like Fairmont, Intercontinental and Kimpton hotels.
And then the key thing – what makes the holiday – is the experiences on the ground. So the sightseeing, which can be very immersive, and they can be either part of group, or they can be individual and private to the client.
Charlotte: Thank you. And tell us how you're supporting agents.
Raj: There's two in our team. We've got Levi, who's our key account manager, and myself, who's heading up the trade team. We're here to support all of our agent partners and continue to grow successful partnerships Levi and I, providing some very bespoke training to each of our travel partners, depending on what they are looking for in terms of training and understanding of our brand, our product depth and the offering that we offer.
We're offering a lot of virtual training. We're offering the opportunity to meet at conferences and things like that as well. So really an opportunity to do that. But also, we are seeing a number of our travel partners looking at doing virtual consumer events as well. So these are things that we can offer for a lot of the agent partners.
Charlotte: Thank you. And finally, I know you have a really useful travel agent toolbox. What will agents find in that and how can they access it?
Raj: So our travel agent portal has a wealth of downloadable material. So we have what we call our Travel Agent Reference Card. This is a very simple guide that agents can take, they can download and use it as a day-to-day reference for all destinations that we cover. But then we have downloadable flyers and brochures for the likes of Switzerland, Italy, Australia, Canada, and customisable flyers as well. So if they want to do particular itineraries you'll see those in their social media assets and a lot more.
All they need to do is go into the top right-hand side of our website, click on the little figure and on there, just pop in there their Abta number and the email address and they'll be able to access all that information.

Longtime Motel 6 spokesman Tom Bodett sues chain over using his name, voice
NEW YORK, June 10 (Reuters) - Tom Bodett, known for his radio and TV ads telling travelers that at Motel 6 "we'll leave the light on for you," has sued the motel chain for using his name and voice without permission, after their nearly four-decade relationship broke down. In a complaint filed on Monday night in Manhattan federal court, Bodett said he cut ties with Motel 6 after its new owner, India-based OYO, missed a $1.2 million annual payment due on January 7 under their contract, which was to end in November. Bodett said Motel 6 nonetheless kept using his name and voice on its national reservation phone line, violating his rights under the contract and federal trademark law. The 70-year-old author and voice actor is known for appearances on National Public Radio and in several Ken Burns documentaries, as well as for his smooth baritone. Bodett said he tried negotiating a confidential settlement that would recognize his role in building Motel 6, not hurt its image or franchisees, and provide "graceful closure," but the chain responded only with "misrepresentations, obfuscations, and delay tactics." The lawsuit seeks $1.2 million, plus additional unspecified damages and a share of profits. Motel 6 had no immediate comment on Tuesday. Bodett had been Motel 6's lead spokesman since 1986, and said he coined "we'll leave the light on for you" as an ad-lib. Motel 6 has more than 1,450 locations in the United States and Canada, according to its website. OYO is a global travel technology unit of Oravel Stays ( opens new tab, which bought Motel 6 from Blackstone Real Estate for $525 million in December. Former Expedia CEO Peter Kern to buy Italian lingerie company La Perla
ROME, June 10 (Reuters) - Peter Kern, the former chief executive of U.S. travel technology company Expedia, will buy troubled Italian luxury lingerie company La Perla, Italy's industry minister said on Tuesday. Kern, through his luxury holding LLC, has submitted the best offer for the firm, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said at a meeting with trade unions and the future new ownership. Kern has committed to invest around 30 million euros ($34.31 million) by 2027 and to relaunch La Perla's production site in the northern city of Bologna, Urso said in a statement. The industrial plan presented by Kern provides for the maintenance of employment levels - around 210 people - and about forty new hires, the minister said. ($1 = 0.8745 euros)

World's tallest woman forced to pay for SIX plane seats and has to be carried on via stretcher when she flies
The world's tallest woman has revealed she is 'forced' to pay for six plane seats when travelling - as she's required to spend the entire flight strapped down to a stretcher. Earlier this year, Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands at 7ft 0.7inches, revealed her plans to visit each country after celebrating her 28th birthday. But, for the Guinness World Record holder, travelling by plane, car, or any other form of transport, is no easy feat. Rumeysa, who lives in the Karabük province of Turkey, typically gets around in a wheelchair or with the aid of a walker, and her huge stature is the result of a condition called Weaver syndrome, which, among other things, causes accelerated growth. Having spent most of her life being too tall to fit in regular plane seats, she's now able to travel the globe thanks to Turkish Airlines, which tore out six seats onboard one of its aircraft and replaced them with a specially-made stretcher. In September 2022, Rumeysa took to the skies for the first time, flying from San Francisco to California - a journey she described as 'flawless from start to finish.' The freelance web developer has since flown at least once per year, and only with her national airline as they're one of the few airlines to offer the stretcher service. Though she's ticked off a number of countries on her bucket list, including Spain, Italy, the US and the UK, her quest to experience new places hasn't come without its fair share of obstacles. Since she can't sit down regular airline seats, Rumeysa has to be stretchered onto the plane and spend the entire flight lying down. She must also arrive four hours before her flight to meet with medical staff and pay for the space the stretcher takes up, which is typically six seats. Rumeysa is yet to travel by bus or train; though she hopes to fulfill this in the coming months. Transportation aside, one of the most challenging aspects of travel for Rumeysa is the lack of accessibility when visiting historic or notable buildings and sites. 'At times, it's upsetting to hold myself back from visiting remarkable places and experiencing the richness of history,' the content creator told Luxury Travel Daily, as reported by What's The Jam. She added: 'It can be frustrating knowing that the only thing standing in the way is the lack of accessibility. My top priority is always safety; not just to protect my wheelchair, but also to prevent any harm to myself. 'With spinal implants, even a minor fall could be extremely dangerous. Unless proper access is available, I choose not to take any unnecessary risks.' Though Rumeysa hopes to explore East Asia next - more specifically Tokyo, Kyoto, Shanghai and Seoul - her one wish is to to visit the ancient monuments in her hometown, Safranbolu. She said: 'One of its most famous areas is the Old Town, where visitors can see well-preserved Ottoman-era houses, mansions and bathhouses. 'Sadly, even though I live very close, I haven't been able to visit there. It's not very accessible.' Rumeysa noted that when she visited old churches in the past, navigating the site proved to be physically challenging, adding: 'Historic sites are often left in their original condition, which I completely understand and respect. 'In most cases, people and staff are kind and willing to help. While I truly appreciate their intentions, the solutions aren't always the safest or most practical.' Rumeysa hopes for more 'innovative ways' to make historic sites accessible to visitors with 'limitations,' adding: 'Everyone deserves the chance to connect with the past, regardless of mobility.'
