UP's Badaun to get wheelchair distribution centre for disabled tomorrow
Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendra is an initiative aimed at providing integrated services under one roof — including assessment, evaluation, counselling, distribution, and post-distribution care — for eligible Divyangjan and elderly beneficiaries.
The newly-established PMDK at Badaun will provide assistive aids and appliances under the ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/fitting of Aids and Appliances) Scheme for Divyangjan and the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) for senior citizens, said a statement.
Devices such as tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, walkers, artificial limbs, and mobility support accessories will be offered free of cost to eligible beneficiaries, it said.
With the launch of this centre, the total number of operational PMDKs across India will reach 75, and the initiative has already benefited over 1.40 lakh individuals with assistive devices worth more than Rs 179.15 lakh.
Verma will open the facility in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry, representatives of ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), District Administration, and other dignitaries.
This Badaun centre is expected to significantly reduce the travel and logistical challenges faced by local beneficiaries, offering them accessible, dignified, and timely services at the regional level.
The event signifies the government's strong commitment towards 'Accessible India, Empowered India' and its vision of inclusive development through last-mile service delivery.

The main agenda of discussion at the Chintan Shivir in Dehradun was the vision and mission of the Ministry, centered around human dignity, rights-based support, and equal opportunity.

The initiative allows the state to procure drugs, medical equipment, and diagnostics at negotiated prices below the listed rates, enabling resources to reach a larger number of patients or extend the duration of therapies. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced on Wednesday that Goa is the first state in the country to implement such a policy framework, which facilitates confidential pricing agreements with pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers. The rollout is expected to begin with treatments for lung cancer, a condition among several high-cost therapies that can exceed Rs 50 lakh per year. According to Rane, this initiative represents a significant step toward health equity, ensuring more patients can access critical care. 'Goa's adoption of this value-based pricing policy is both timely and essential,' Rane said. 'It will improve access to innovative therapies and help more patients benefit from these treatments.' Addressing the rising burden of diseases The report noted that Goa faces a growing healthcare challenge, with around 1,500 new cancer cases diagnosed annually, expected to rise by 5% each year. Breast cancer is the most common, accounting for over 300 cases, followed by oral cavity cancer, which makes up 20-25% of total cases. Rane highlighted the need for a more robust healthcare system to meet the increasing demand for specialized treatments and rare disease management. Policy framework & implementation The new pricing policy focuses on proprietary drugs and equipment already procured by the Goa Medical College (GMC) and the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) through standard tenders. If new patented drugs or devices are required, a committee will review the recommendation and seek approval from the finance department before inclusion. A committee led by the Additional/Joint Secretary of Health, along with the GMC dean, DHS director, and pharmacy heads, will determine appropriate pricing and negotiate with companies to secure the best rates for patented treatments. Once approved, the finalized list of drugs and equipment will be notified with finance department approval, TOI further reported. This move is expected to ease financial pressure on patients while equipping Goa's healthcare system to better handle the rising incidence of cancer and rare disorders, setting a precedent for other states to follow.

Rs 750 crore cancer hospital project works launched in Amaravati
VIJAYAWADA: Hindupur MLA and Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) Chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna on Wednesday launched construction of a state-of-the-art cancer care campus at Thullur in the Amaravati capital region. Spread across 21 acres, the facility will serve as a Centre of Excellence for cancer treatment, research, and patient-centric care. The foundation for the hospital, a trusted name for over 25 years, was laid in 2019 after the then TDP government allotted land. Construction was delayed due to 'unforeseen circumstances' and alleged negligence by the previous YSRCP government. Balakrishna said the project has now been revived under Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, with the State government clearing all hurdles and allotting an additional six acres. Ministers P Narayana, Y Satya Kumar Yadav, MP Kesineni Shivnath (Chinni), MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, and BIACH&RI board members and Nara Brahmani were present at the ceremony. Balakrishna said the Rs 750 crore first phase will feature a 500-bed facility with precision diagnostics and advanced surgical technology, expected to be operational by 2028. The second phase will add 500 beds, research wings, and specialised departments. Calling the hospital a non-profit, Balakrishna thanked donors, partners, and well-wishers. 'Our mission is to bring hope and healing to every patient, every day,' he said.

IIT Delhi, Wadhwani Foundation inaugurate Centre of Excellence in precision & personalised healthcare
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has partnered with the Wadhwani Foundation to inaugurate the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Precision and Personalised Healthcare under the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN). The inauguration ceremony was held at IIT Delhi's Research and Innovation Park on August 13 was led by Dr Ajay Kela, CEO and board member, Wadhwani Foundation, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, director, IIT Delhi. Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, remarked, 'Through the WIN Centre, IIT Delhi will channelise its expertise in biomedical technologies, AI, and engineering towards delivering tangible healthcare innovations—from precision diagnostics and personalised treatments to affordable medical devices.
