ITV 'axes huge Andi Peters and Jeff Brazier perk' in latest cost-cutting

Daily Mirror3 days ago

The days of seeing ITV stars Andi Peters and Jeff Brazier flown off to exotic locations to promote competitions for the broadcaster are over - according to reports. Both Andi, 54, and Jeff, 46, would often pop up in some far flung location, encouraging viewers to try their luck and be in with a chance of winning thousands of pounds on shows, including Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.
However, money is now a sticky subject at ITV after it announced a string of cuts to its Daytime offerings before staff at the broadcaster were hit with news that there would be redundancies ahead. As a result, ITV will, reportedly, no longer be shelling out for presenters such as Andi and Jeff to sun themselves on sun-kissed beaches while working for the broadcaster in its latest cost-cutting exercise.
ITV launches brand new channel amid daytime cuts and redundancies
This year alone, Andi has broadcast from the Maldives, Australia, Cape Town, and Florida while Jeff has jetted off to Thailand, Sri Lanka and Malta, which according to insiders, has 'irritated' production staff who have since been told their roles are at risk.
Speaking to the Mail, a source said: "ITV has scaled back on sending top talent overseas to present their competition segments. The competitions themselves, which give viewers the chance to win six figure sums and idyllic holidays, bring in a great deal of revenue, but constantly flying the likes of Andi and Jeff to the Maldives and South Africa was starting to frustrate staff and viewers alike.
"It was decided that they would dial down for a few weeks after the budget cuts were announced and no one has flown overseas to present the competitions since.
"As well as there being a backlash online from disgruntled viewers, it was felt continuing to send talent abroad to luxurious holiday destinations as others are losing their jobs would be in bad taste."
Indeed, some viewers did take to social media after it was announced that Lorraine Kelly's self-titled programme will be cut in half next year, to just half an hour a day and will only air 30 weeks of the year. Meanwhile, Loose Women will keep its hour show - but again, it will be cut to just 30 out of 52 weeks a year.
Claiming the channel would save money if it didn't keep paying for Andi to be shipped off to yet another picture-postcard location, one fan posted: "If ITV really wanted to save money they would stop sending Andi Peters to Mauritius or the rings of Saturn every time they have a competition."
ITV hasn't featured an exotic location for one of its competitions since May 19 when Lisa Snowdon hosted a segment from Cyprus for This Morning, which coincided with their official announcement of budget cuts and job losses.
Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, announced the changes last month, where he had said the changes were necessary to "generate savings".
However, sources have told The Mirror some shows face a 'death spiral' saying:"It's not a case of viewers seeing less of their shows… it's impossible to see how the high standards will remain the same. Some staff believe Loose Women and Lorraine in particular will enter a death spiral… it's just so sad. Just a handful of people will be working on each of those two programmes which has huge ramifications for how they are going forward."
When contacted by the Mirror, ITV declined to comment.

Charles joined by David Beckham and Meryl Streep to celebrate award winners

Charles met David Beckham, Stanley Tucci and Penny Lancaster, all King's Foundation ambassadors, alongside friends of the charitable body, Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep, at the St James's Palace awards ceremony. Prizes including Young Entrepreneur and Advocate of the Year were presented by the celebrities including the King Charles III Harmony Award, recognising a long-term commitment to the foundation's mission of creating a world where people, places and the planet can live in harmony. Charles met his foundation's famous supporters and award winners before touring stands showcasing the charity's work, and Winslet smiled as she told him: 'Don't worry, I'll be all in – I've got your back.' Celebrity chef Raymond Blanc hailed the King for his campaigning over the decades on issues like communities, sustainability and traditional crafts that underpin the foundation, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary. His ITV series Raymond Blanc's Royal Kitchen Gardens took him to palaces like Hampton Court and Hillsborough, as well as Highgrove House and the Castle of Mey – places Charles calls home. Blanc, a foundation ambassador, said after meeting Charles: 'I think what the King has done is extraordinary. He's done it for many, many years – from the 1970s, about the same time I arrived in England – and my values are his values. 'There's a deep belief in connecting human beings with communities, with agriculture, with sustainability, management of waste, management of energy, and he has done it for the last 45, 50 years.' Speaking about filming at the King's Scottish retreat, the Castle of Mey, which once belonged to his grandmother the Queen Mother, Blanc added: 'I really believe he got all his values seeing his grandma in this beautiful space. 'So natural, close to the sea, at the tip of Scotland where there was such a reservoir of natural things.' Blanc's words were echoed by Penny Lancaster who praised the monarch for creating the awards and highlighting the needs of the planet throughout his adult life. She added: 'The King may have been accused of hugging trees and people thinking he was mad when he started talking about the environment all that time ago, but he was at the forefront then and now has been proved right with everything he said and now we're all just trying to play catch up. 'I really recognise the beauty in the way he is trying to get us on board with his knowledge and if we can pass that on to the younger generation, and save some of the traditional skills like we've seen with these winners today, we can all be a part of making a difference.' The King's Foundation, previously known as The Prince's Foundation following an amalgamation of Charles' charities which stretch back to 1990, aims to 'advocate for the change His Majesty wants to see in the world'. The Emerging Talent prize was presented by Beckham, the former England football captain rumoured to be knighted soon, to Emily Hurst who has shown exceptional talent and commitment while on a King's Foundation programme. She recently completed the Chanel and King's Foundation Metiers d'Art Fellowship in Millinery, based at Highgrove Gardens after she had become fascinated with the heritage craft of straw braiding and began learning to produce hats from the material. She said: 'Working at Highgrove was absolutely the best place to be, surrounded by so much inspiration from His Majesty's garden and learning from some of the best milliners with country, I'm so incredibly honoured.'

Love Island star reveals terrifying moment she was forced to run screaming after being followed by a man: 'I'm scared to walk around'

A Love Island star has revealed she was forced to run screaming after being followed by a man in a terrifying ordeal. Patsy Field took to social media to detail the horrifying incident with fans as she admitted she no longer felt safe in her local area. The former islander, 30, who took part in last year's summer edition of the ITV dating show, told fans how she went on a walk in Bromley shortly after 8pm. In a video, she explained how she had headed out in a bid to walk off 'being full of steak' after a family dinner at Miller and Carter. She said: 'I'd got an outfit on which could be a bit revealing but like I said, I'd never had any issues before. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I've always felt safe where I'm from.' Patsy told how her mother always discourages her from walking by herself at night because the area she's from gets 'a bed rep'. About 10 minutes into her stroll, Patsy realised there was a man walking close by her and she crossed the road. She said: 'I give it a couple of steps on the other side of the road and I thought, I'll just check and I turn around and he's crossed the road.' Unsettled, Patsy said she remained open-minded because there were parked cars on that side of the road. However, in disbelief, the man once again crossed the road after she had moved back. Thinking on her feet while panicking, Patsy stopped walking and looked down at her phone, with the man walking on past her. She continued: 'I can see the end of the road so he carries on walking, there's a zebra crossing right at the end of the road. Patsy told fans how she screamed for help before running off and ringing her mother to come and collect her 'He crosses the zebra crossing and he's about to be out of my sight, but then just as he's about to go out of sight, like away, he stops and turns back around and he just starts walking back towards me. 'I'm like what the f**k is going on.' As the man made contact with Patsy, she was left unnerved and began screaming for help and ran in the opposite direction. The reality star rang her mother who was able to come and pick her up. 'Now I'm scared to walk around my own area which is a shame as I've never had an issue before,' she admitted. While on Love Island, Patsy revealed she w as born with Erb palsy, a disability that affects the muscle function in her right arm and also means it is shorter in length. She told how she should have been born via cesarean, but doctors made the crucial error for her to be delivered naturally, resulting in the defect, which she has had to overcome her entire life.
