Op Sindoor clear message to Pak: Army chief warns terror supporters of decisive strikes
The Army chief said that forces carried out
successful, precise operations against terror infrastructure in Pakistan without any civilian harm and successfully neutralised their response.
In his keynote address on the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Drass, the Army chief said that the Army targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and secured a decisive victory, and said the Operation Sindoor was continuation of Operation Vijay of 1999 in Kargil war. 'We gave peace a chance but in its response Pakistan showed cowardliness. Operation Sindoor was our response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. This time we decided to deliver a strong response with a resolve. We didn't only mourn the Pahalgam terror attack but gave a strong and forceful response.'
He said that during the night of May 6 and 7, the Army attacked nine high value terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir without harming innocent civilians. 'It was a clear message that backers of terrorism won't be spared,' he said.
He said that the response of Pakistan was neutralised and given a strong reply. 'Our army, airforce and naval force, NGOs, civil departments acted jointly and stood like a firm wall and the drones and missiles of Pakistan couldn't breach the wall,' he said, adding that the response of India was strong and decisive.
General Upendra Dwivedi also paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Kargil War and lauded their unwavering courage and sacrifice.
He said that the Army's historic victory in 1999 is repetition of national sovereignty during recent Operation Sindoor.
He said that India seeks peace but will respond decisively to provocation.
The Army chief also outlined the Army's transformation into a future-ready force through 'Rudra' all arms brigades, 'Bhairav' light commando battalions, 'Shaktibaan' artillery regiments and 'Divyastra' batteries, drone-equipped infantry battalions, and indigenous air defence systems.
He also praised the Army's role in national building, especially in border infrastructure, tourism, economy and veteran welfare affirming the soldier's enduring role in building Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a wide range of development projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. He also inaugurated a railway overbridge at Hardattpur, which is expected to alleviate congestion on the heavily-used Mohan Sarai–Adalpura route. In addition, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for several new infrastructure projects, including road upgrades in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur. Focussing on improving the city's power infrastructure, the Prime Minister also launched electricity projects worth over Rs 880 crore. These include the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead electrical cables, which aim to modernise and secure the city's power supply system. To promote tourism and protect the city's rich cultural heritage, PM Modi inaugurated the redevelopment of eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats, the beautification of the pond and ghat at Rangildas Kutiya in Shivpur, and the restoration of the historic Durgakund. Foundation stones were also laid for the restoration of Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of notable freedom fighters, and redevelopment of Munshi Premchand's ancestral home in Lamahi into a museum.

Bengal govt commences outreach programme to address neighbourhood issues
Kolkata, Aug 2 (PTI) Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, the West Bengal government on Saturday launched a Rs 8,000-crore outreach programme to address local issues like setting up street lamps, improving road conditions and ensuring water supply across districts. The programme – Amader Para, Amader Samadhan (Our neighbourhood, our Solution) – is the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said while outlining the scheme on July 22. A task force headed by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant would monitor the programme, and district-level task forces have been formed as many camps started functioning on Saturday. 'We are sanctioning 10 lakh per booth. In total, the state government will be spending Rs 8000 crore on this programme. It will start on August 2," she had said. While these camps will be held for two months, there will be an administrative evaluation for 30 days, a government statement said. 'The implementation or addressing the issues raised by the people will take a period of three months from the day of launch," it said. In the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, there is one camp for every two booths. 'We had seen that there are small teething issues plaguing a locality, which are too localised but need urgent attention. 'While local civic bodies, people's representatives and various agencies are there to look into various issues – like the setting up of a tap, need for an electric pole or ensure proper lighting in the area, this interactive initiative is an inclusive one where various things can be brought up for being sorted out under one umbrella," a senior government official said. Banerjee had said state government officials will be present on the ground to listen to the people's problems, and the centres will address these issues in a locality. 'You (citizen) can track schedule, status and progress at You decide how your booth's budget is spent," said the government advertisement on Saturday announcing the start of the outreach programme. The programme is rooted in the vision of a self-reliant Bengal, where the focus is not merely on delivery but on deep listening, transparency and collaboration, the statement said. Government officials will be physically present in every locality to listen to grievances, register demands, and oversee the process, which will likely span over two months, it said. 'The initiative is unprecedented in the history of India, and it reflects the state government's commitment to placing people at the heart of policymaking," another statement said earlier.
