The special investigation team of the Meghalaya Police probing the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi on Wednesday recovered a country-made pistol from a stream in Palasia area of Indore, officials said."We have recovered a country-made pistol with two magazines... from a stream in Indore," East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told PTI.Earlier, Rs 50,000 cash was recovered from a box stored in a car in Indore, the officer said.An Indore Police officer said this weapon was suspected to have disappeared along with other items from a flat in the city where Sonam, Raja Raghuvanshi's wife and the prime accused, had stayed for several days after fleeing from Meghalaya following the murder.Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and his friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi have been arrested for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to murder the businessman.Raghuvanshi, who married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His mutilated body was found in a deep gorge in Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district on June 2."The recovery of the firearm and ammunition confirms our suspicion about the kind of planning that went into this murder. We are piecing together every bit of evidence as we build a watertight case," Syiem said.

Cops foil bid to smuggle ganja into Colvale jail
Panaji: An FIR was filed against four persons, including a minor, for trying to smuggle ganja worth Rs 1.4 lakh into Colvale Central Jail. The incident occurred on June 14 when the accused individuals threw packets containing seven balls of ganja into the jail premises. They were attempting to deliver the substance to the prisoners. However, the packets were spotted by policemen. North Goa superintendent of police, Rahul Gupta, said that during the investigation, it was found that the accused individuals involved were Gautam Talwar, 24, and Samuel Pujari, 24, both residents of Ansabhat, Mapusa, and Jaffer Mulla, 24, of Khorlim, Mapusa. 'The minor boy was produced before a member of the Juvenile Justice Board. He was subsequently handed over to his parents with a direction that he be produced before the board at Merces on June 26,' said Gupta. The SP stated that the deputy superintendent of Colvale Central Jail reported that on June 14, sentry police constable Prashant Naik, at watchtower 3 within the jail premises, noticed seven ball-shaped objects wrapped in brown-coloured material. Dharashiv inspector & constable caught taking Rs 95,000 bribe from another police constable
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Inspector Maroti Shelke and constable Mukta Lokhande, of the Dharashiv rural police station, were arrested by the anti-corruption bureau on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 95,000 from another woman constable to assist her son in an abetment to suicide case filed against him. Superintendent of police (ACB) Sandip Atole said the complainant, a 48-year-old woman, approached ACB officers alleging that Shelke and Lokhande demanded Rs 1 lakh as a bribe. "Lokhande allegedly made the demand on behalf of inspector Shelke as well as for herself to help the complainant's son," Atole said. Following the complaint, the ACB verified the allegations on Wednesday. During the verification at Dharashiv rural police station, Shelke directed the complainant to meet Lokhande. Later, at the govt guest house in Dharashiv, Lokhande accepted Rs 95,000 as the final bribe amount. A trap was then laid under the supervision of ACB deputy SP Yogesh Velapure. Around the planned time, Lokhande was caught red-handed accepting the Rs 95,000 bribe from the complainant in front of panch witnesses. She was immediately taken into custody. Inspector Shelke was arrested subsequently. Lane jumping tops traffic fines in Gurgaon this year, police say major cause of accidents
Gurgaon: As many as 23,777 motorists were penalised for violating lane driving rules between Jan 1 and June 24 this year, police said. The total fines collected during the period were Rs 1.8 crore. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police said lane indiscipline, such as sudden lane changes or driving in the wrong lane, was identified as a major contributor to road accidents, often resulting in injuries and damage to life and property. "To prevent such incidents, city police regularly conduct awareness drives and enforce traffic rules strictly," said an officer. The special campaign, launched to ensure disciplined lane driving, was headed by DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan along with ACP Satyapal Yadav. The police also organised awareness sessions — named Jagrukta Pathshalas — for truck drivers, school bus drivers, company employees, and auto drivers to educate them on the importance of lane discipline. They added that consistent enforcement and public education are helping reduce road mishaps and improving the overall traffic system in Gurgaon. "Our goal is to streamline traffic flow and reduce accidents by promoting responsible driving behaviour," said police officials. Last year, the city reported 1,024 road accidents that led to 478 deaths and 706 injuries. The alarming rise in the number comes along with the figures for the first four months of the year — 2.4 lakh. Among the other major violations in May were 9,254 speeding challans, 3,058 drinking and driving challans, 579 challans for using mobile phones while driving, 2,605 red light jumping penalties, 4,655 lane change fines, 20,780 wrong side driving challans, 7,529 triple riding challans, 16,102 challans for zebra crossing violations and 5639 penalties for not wearing seat belts.
