Wisconsin football starting quarterback named to Golden Arm Award watch list
Presented annually, the award honors the top senior or upperclassman quarterback in the nation. Notable past winners include Shedeur Sanders (2024), Jayden Daniels (2023), Mac Jones (2020), Joe Burrow (2019), Deshaun Watson (2016), Marcus Mariota (2014) and Andrew Luck (2011). Edwards Jr. would become the second Badger to pocket the nod if he emerges from an impressive pack of players to do so, joining former pass-thrower Scott Tolzien (2011).
Entering his first season in Madison, Edwards Jr. was one of 58 quarterbacks from across the country to land a spot on the watch list. Notable names in this year's batch include Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), Arch Manning (Texas), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), Drew Allar (Penn State) and John Mateer (Oklahoma).
Edwards Jr. is also one of eight Big Ten quarterbacks to earn the preseason recognition alongside Allar, Luke Altmyer (Illinois), Aidan Chiles (Michigan State), Preston Stone (Northwestern), Fernando Mendoza (Indiana), Athan Kaliakmanis (Rutgers) and Nico Iamaleava (UCLA).
The former Terrapin transferred to Luke Fickell's program this winter following three full seasons with Maryland from 2022-24. As a redshirt junior, the Virginia native threw for 2,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 65% of his passes. He ranked second in the conference with 261.9 passing yards per game and fourth in completions (273) in 2024.
The veteran enters his first year at Wisconsin following the departures of Braedyn Locke and Tyler Van Dyke and the introduction of new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes. With a ground-and-pound offensive system in place, Edwards' productivity in the deep passing game may take a slight hit. His completion percentage, coupled with his 375 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground over three years, suggests he could help the team excel in short-yardage situations.
Edwards Jr. will look to showcase his capabilities in Madison when the Badgers open the season against Miami (OH) on Aug. 28 at Camp Randall Stadium.

Texas Longhorns 2025 opponent names starting quarterback
Texas Longhorns opponents have been naming starting quarterbacks this week. Ohio State, Texas' Week 1 opponent, named Julian Sayin the starter on Monday. Now, UT's Week 3 opponent has named its starting QB for the 2025 season. UTEP has named Malachi Nelson its starting quarterback for the season. Unless something happens in the first two weeks, Nelson will be the Miners QB when UTEP visits Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium on Sept. 13 at 3:15 CT. UTEP is Nelson's third college program. The Los Alamitos, CA native started his career at USC playing for Lincoln Riley. Nelson backed up Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and would only play in one game. He took a redshirt and transferred to Boise State. With the Broncos last year, Nelson lost a fall camp QB battle to Maddux Madsen. Madsen would go on to lead Boise State to the college football playoff. Nelson was second string. After the season, the 6-foot-3, 182-pound signal caller transferred to UTEP. He finally gets his shot in El Paso, but he's taking over a team that struggled in 2024. UTEP, coming off a 3-9 season, is easily the weakest team on Texas' schedule. Nelson beat out last year's starter, Skyler Locklear. Second year UTEP head coach Scotty Walden is hoping his new QB can advance the project and program forward. Scottie Scheffler Makes Bold Cowboys Prediction Before NFL Season
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has spent much of the year stacking up wins, but on Monday, his attention turned to another team that'll be chasing wins in September. In a clip from "Dan On Golf" with Dan Rapaport, Scheffler was asked how many games he thought the NFL's Dallas Cowboys would win this season. "I saw their ceiling on ESPN was 11-6, so I mean I'm going to hope for the ceiling and go with 11," Scheffler replied, referencing an early preseason projection. The comment came less than 24 hours after Scheffler's latest PGA Tour victory, a comeback win at the BMW Championship. Scheffler's 2025 Season: A Historic Run Scheffler's BMW Championship triumph on Sunday was his fifth PGA Tour win of the year and the 18th of his career. The victory, secured with a decisive 82-foot chip-in birdie on the 17th hole, also marked the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs and kept him atop the season-long standings heading into the Tour Championship. This season alone, Scheffler has: Five PGA Tour wins, including the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. First player since Tiger Woods (2006–07) to win five or more events in consecutive seasons. Over $23.9 million in official earnings this year, with a chance to set a new single-season record at the Tour Championship. Scheffler has now won 12 PGA Tour events in the last two years, a stretch unmatched in the current era. A Lifelong Cowboys Fan Born in New Jersey but raised in Dallas from age six, Scheffler has been open about his deep connection to the Cowboys. In July, he told the "Pardon My Take" podcast he would "trade one [major] for sure for a Super Bowl" and joked he'd give up "like 10" regular PGA Tour wins for the same outcome. He has described himself as the type of fan who enters every season convinced the team will win it all, despite decades without a conference championship appearance. Dallas' last Super Bowl victory came in January 1996, five months before Scheffler was born. Looking ahead, Scheffler tees it up at East Lake Golf Club on August 21 for the season-ending Tour Championship, where he will start with the FedExCup lead. The Cowboys, meanwhile, will open their season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4. For reference, ESPN BET has the Cowboys' over/under win total set at 7.5 and the team has the fifth-hardest strength of schedule in the NFL, according to ESPN. Notre Dame will host 5-star 2027 South Carolina cornerback when they host Texas A&M
Rivals No. 1 CB in five-star Joshua Dobson has visits set to Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He talks about each program here: The list of elite prospects visiting Notre Dame for its contest against Texas A&M just got bigger on Thursday. On3's Steve Wiltfong is reporting (subscription required) that 5-star South Carolina cornerback Joshua Dobson will be making an unofficial visit between the top-25 combatants. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 175-pounder also has set up trips to see Clemson and South Carolina early in the season, as it looks like the Irish are chasing the reported leader Tigers in his recruitment. Dobson is one of the top players in the country regardless of position, as he's ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite. He made multiple visits during the spring, but didn't get a chance to check out South Bend. The Irish made their offer to him in mid-March during their 'Pot of Gold' day, as Dobson could be the next success story that comes out of the festivities. You can expect that the Irish will go hard after him, even though they aren't viewed as his current leader. Plenty could change following his early season visits, and hopefully Notre Dame is still near the top of his list following those trips.
