Pahang expects 2.85 million vehicles along highways for Aidiladha

KUANTAN: Pahang is expected to witness a surge in traffic, with an estimated 2.85 million vehicles projected on its highways during Aidiladha celebrations this weekend.
This figure is slightly lower than the traffic recorded during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, which saw some 3.1 million vehicles entering the state.
State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Ir. Razali Kassim said that the balik kampung travel projection, between May 29 and June 9, would see 2.56 million vehicles on the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) and 803,000 vehicles on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1).
"KLK will carry an average of 176,800 vehicles daily, with peak traffic anticipated on June 8 (Sunday), when around 184,000 vehicles are expected on the stretch. This increase is likely due to people returning to work on June 9, and schools reopening on June 10.
"LPT1 is expected to handle 73,100 vehicles daily, with traffic peaking at 97,000 vehicles on June 8, particularly along the stretch between Karak (Bentong) and Jabor," he told reporters at the Gambang Toll Plaza yesterday.
Earlier, Razali, accompanied by Pahang Road Transport Department (RTD) director Syed Ahmad Khairulanwar Alyahya Syed Abdul Rahman, distributed goodies to motorists at the toll plaza as part of the Aidiladha Road Safety Advocacy Programme.
Razali said that traffic on KLK on Sunday was expected to increase by 61 per cent compared with normal days (non-festive season), which typically sees around 110,000 vehicles, while LPT1 is expected to see a 78 per cent increase, compared with its usual 41,000 vehicles on regular days.
He reminded all road users to comply with traffic regulations, observe speed limits, and take adequate breaks during long drives, both on their way to their hometowns and during their return journeys.
"Motorists must pay attention to constant reminders to prioritise safety on the road. They should also carry out basic vehicle inspections to ensure their vehicles are in good condition," he said.
Razali said 262 RTD enforcement officers across Pahang were involved in a special operation for Aidiladha to help reduce accidents. The operation, which began on June 4, will end on June 10.

Melaka RTD seizes RM6 million worth of luxury cars in special operation

MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized seven luxury vehicles worth nearly RM6 million in a targeted enforcement operation. The operation, named Op Khas Luxury, ran from 1 July until today. Among the confiscated vehicles were high-end brands such as Bentley, Porsche, BMW, and Toyota Alphard. Melaka RTD director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the vehicles were impounded for various offences, including expired road tax and missing insurance coverage. She noted that owners often claimed they 'overlooked' or 'forgot' to renew their documents. The latest seizure involved a Toyota Alphard driven by a Myanmar national with six other passengers of the same nationality. The vehicle was stopped at the Jasin Toll entrance around 10 am today. Siti Zarina said the driver lacked a valid licence, and none of the passengers had proper travel documents. All individuals were handed over to the police for further investigation. She added that checks revealed the vehicle was registered to a local owner. Authorities are investigating whether the car was rented to the foreigners involved. Op Khas Luxury was launched nationwide on 1 July to tighten enforcement on imported and luxury vehicles violating road laws. In a separate operation, Op PeWA, 36 motorcycles ridden by foreigners were also seized today. Riders from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Rohingya, Myanmar, and Vietnam were found committing offences such as driving without a licence and expired road tax. Deputy Director Khairul Aswad Abdul Halim and Enforcement Division Head Zulhilmi Zaidie were present during the press conference. – Bernama

More than 40 luxury car owners in Kelantan with expired road tax

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) has identified more than 40 owners of luxury cars who have failed to renew their road tax. State RTD director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said these individuals were among the more than 400 luxury vehicles, including those owned by local businesswomen, currently registered with the department. He added that the total value of these vehicles was estimated to be in the millions of ringgit. However, he said, most of the luxury cars, which include Lamborghinis and Ferraris worth millions each, were used outside the state, particularly in the Klang Valley. "In just 10 days, we managed to detain the owners of 16 luxury vehicles for failing to renew their road tax. "Likely, there are still many more owners who remain reluctant to renew them," he said. Misuari said that many of the vehicles were owned by entrepreneurs and businesspeople, including women entrepreneurs, who typically pay between RM3,000 and RM15,000 annually for road tax. "This amount is not considered high for them, as they can afford it, but many tend to be complacent. "Some assume enforcement officers will not check their luxury vehicles. This lack of concern often results in their vehicles being seized by RTD," he said. He warned that those driving without a valid road tax could be charged under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000. For those without insurance, they can be charged under Section 90(1). The offence carries a fine of up to RM1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. Misuari said the department will continue with Op Khas Luxury to ensure only legal, safe, and registered vehicles are allowed on the roads.
