Malachi Fields Named Top Newcomer For Notre Dame By Lindy's Sports originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Notre Dame's receiving corps is set to have, potentially, their most productive season in quite some time this fall. Year two of the Mike Denbrock offense will likely be more balanced than year one, in large part due to the personnel and makeup of the offensive roster. The Irish will have a one-two punch at receiver they haven't had in several seasons in junior Jaden Greathouse and Virginia transfer Malachi Fields. Both players were ranked in Lindy's Sports Top 20 wide receivers for 2025 and Fields was ranked as Notre Dame's 'top newcomer' ahead of this fall.

Fields spent his first four seasons playing wideout for the Cavaliers. He had a relatively quite freshman year in 2021, but at 6-4 220 pounds, his potential flashed at times. In 2022, he was poised for a breakout season, but it was cut short and he missed almost the entire season with a foot injury. Fields returned to the starting lineup in 2023 and broke out immediately.
He finished his junior season playing 783 snaps, recorded 58 receptions, 811 yards, averaged 14.0 yards per catch and had five receiving touchdowns. Out of his 58 receptions, 39 of them went for first downs, he forced nine missed tackles and recorded 10 contested catches in 12 games, all according to PFF. The only blemish on his season long resume was the number of drops he tallied (6) in 2023. It was a part of his game that was quickly corrected in 2024.
Last season, Fields finished the year with 701 snaps played, 55 receptions, 808 receiving yards, averaged 14.7 yards per catch and repeated his five touchdown performance. In less snaps, he became a more efficient player in almost every category. He recorded 12 missed tackles forced, 13 contested catches, 34 first downs and only dropped two passes all season long.
Fields recorded three 100 yard performances, two of them back to back, in 2024. His lowest output of the season came in their final regular season game against Virginia Tech where he finished the day with two receptions for 20 yards. Fields shined against the tougher opponents on the Cavaliers' schedule last year. Against Notre Dame, he recorded four receptions for 81 yards. He tallied nine receptions for 129 yards against Louisville and three receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown against Clemson.

Fields will join Greathouse and the rest of the Irish receiving corps this summer. The offensive line will be a year more experienced, they will have a strong run game as a foundation of the offense and the quarterback under center this year will be more comfortable consistently pushing the ball down the field. Fields' presence will change the dynamic of the receiving corps for Notre Dame; it's not surprising that he was named the top newcomer for the Irish this fall.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that teams are interested in Robert on Friday, via The Chicago Sun-Times' Vinnie Duber. '[Teams are] expressing interest; they're continually doing that,' he said. 'We're not actively making phone calls on behalf of any player. Obviously, as you approach the trade deadline, that will pick up.' Following this news, it was reported the Yankees are among the teams to watch regarding Robert, via MLB insider Francys Romero. How BYU Plans to Distribute $20.5 Revenue Share After House Settlement

How BYU Plans to Distribute $20.5 Revenue Share After House Settlement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Newly appointed BYU athletic director Brian Santiago sees the recently approved House v. NCAA settlement not as a challenge, but as a strategic advantage for the Cougars going forward. Advertisement In a Tuesday appearance on BYUtv's 'BYU Sports Nation,' Santiago said the landmark agreement which allows schools to directly pay student-athletes aligns well with BYU's values and long-term vision. 'This actually shifts the power of college athletics back to the universities,' Santiago said. 'For us at BYU, we think it's a strategic advantage." He added it "kind of evens the playing field." The settlement that was approved last week by Judge Claudia Wilken, goes into effect July 1. The schools who opt in can distribute up to $20.5 million annually in shared revenue. Santiago explained that BYU will prioritize investing in student-athletes who align with the school's mission. While he did not specify how much BYU will allocate in year one, he stressed the athletic department's commitment to being 'very competitive in the space.' The revenue distribution will largely benefit football and men's basketball, which Santiago called 'the ship' that drives the rest of the department. However, he added that all 19 Cougar programs will feel the impact. Advertisement Related: AJ Dybantsa denies $7 million payout from BYU 'We're going to invest in all of our sports,' Santiago said. 'We want all of our student-athletes to feel the impact.. and chase their dreams.' Santiago also praised the introduction of the NIL Go clearinghouse, which will ensure third-party endorsement deals reflect fair market value. It's a move he believes brings much-needed structure to what was previously 'the wild, wild west.' Related: Big 12 Official Makes Final Decision on Controversial Penalty From BYU-Utah Despite BYU's limited exposure to the $2.8 billion in NCAA back pay, given the schools' recent realignment to the Big 12, Santiago welcomed the broader shift in college athletics. 'It takes a shift away from the money back to where it should be,' Santiago said. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

Former Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley officially retires after 3-year hiatus, will have jersey retired

After a three-year hiatus from the WNBA, 3-point shooting star Allie Quigley made her retirement official in The Players Tribune on Tuesday. She last played for the Chicago Sky in 2022, which will now go down as the guard's 14th and final season in the W. "I just took the 2023 season off … then I took the 2024 season off … then I took the 2025 season off….. you get the idea," Quigley wrote. "But all jokes aside, I never actually meant to do an Irish goodbye." Advertisement On Wednesday, the Sky announced they will retire Quigley's No. 14 jersey on July 9 against the Dallas Wings. It's the first jersey Chicago will retire in its 20-year franchise history. Quigley played for the Sky from 2013-22 and became a four-time 3-point shootout champion, three-time All-Star and two-time Sixth Woman of the Year along the way. The former DePaul standout also helped Chicago win its first WNBA championship in 2021, alongside Kahleah Copper, Candace Parker and her wife Courtney Vandersloot. Following that season, Quigley considered riding off into the sunset. "But after thinking about it a little more, I realized I actually wanted to savor the end of my career," Quigley wrote in The Players Tribune. "I wanted the experience of walking into each arena and knowing it might be the last time I'd ever play there. And I wanted the experience of trying to defend our championship that we worked so hard for, for so long. So that's what I did. I didn't tell a lot of people, but I played in 2022 thinking it would probably be my last season. I really, truly soaked it all in." Courtney Vandersloot and her wife, Quigley, warm up ahead of a matchup in 2022 — Quigley's final season. (Photo by) (Ethan Miller via Getty Images) In 2022, her hometown Sky posted a 26-10 record, and Quigley averaged 11.4 points per game while shooting 42.8% from the field. Chicago bowed out in the WNBA semifinals to the Connecticut Sun that season. Advertisement Even then, Quigley didn't officially retire. Quigley shifted her focus to motherhood, initially thinking that she'd have a child and then leave the door open to play one more season. Quigley wrote in The Players Tribune that it took her longer to get pregnant than she first expected. She eventually gave birth to her and Vandersloot's daughter Jana Christine in April this year. It was then that she was ready to finally say goodbye to the WNBA. Before finding her place in the league with the Sky, Quigley went from one WNBA team to the next, spending time in Phoenix, Indiana, San Antonio and Seattle. Quigley averaged 10.9 points per game during her career, plus shot a blistering 39.4% from deep. She was the Sky's all-time leading scorer until last month when who else but Vandersloot surpassed her on that list. Vandersloot, however, suffered a season-ending ACL tear over the weekend.
