South Wales rivals Swansea City and Cardiff City are among those tipped with an interest in highly-rated Liverpool youngster Luca Stephenson.

Our colleagues at the Liverpool Echo claim both sides are among a clutch of clubs to have monitored the 21-year-old, who has been tipped for a big future at Anfield.

Swansea are still keen on adding to their ranks, having already brought five players on board this summer.

They are already close to sealing one Premier League loan in his window, with a move for West Ham United centre-back Kaelan Casey seemingly confirmed.
The Swans have also shown an interest in fellow Liverpool youngster James McConnell this summer.
Cardiff, meanwhile, are yet to make a single addition to their squad following relegation to League One, although chairman Mehmet Dalman says they are close to confirming new arrivals.

Versatile midfielder Stephenson spent last season on loan at Dundee United, and was named the club's Young Player of the Season following a string of impressive performances.
The former Sunderland starlet made 31 appearances for United last term, scoring three goals and earning two assists.
He has since featured for the Premier League champions during pre-season, including during the club's tour of the Far East.

But while he is believed to have impressed Liverpool's senior coaching staff, another loan is seen as the best next step in his career.
That news has seemingly alerted a number of clubs.
Dundee United would clearly love to welcome him back for a second spell, while Reading and Rotherham United have also been touted to rival the two south Wales sides.

Aberdeen have also been identified as admirers, and are believed to be weighing up a possible permanent move.
Stephenson is capable of playing as a holding midfielder or out wide, and has even slotted in at centre-back and full-back.
It's that versatility that is likely to make him such an attractive prospect this summer, and it remains to be seen where he will end up.

Jamie Carragher explains why Chelsea are NO CLOSER to winning the Premier League title - despite spending £250m on new players this summer and becoming world champions

has questioned Chelsea 's direction under Todd Boehly and Enzo Maresca – claiming the Blues are still no nearer to mounting a Premier League title challenge despite becoming world champions and splashing another quarter of a billion pounds on new signings. Chelsea lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States earlier this summer and will return to the Champions League next season after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League – their best since Boehly's 2022 takeover. But Carragher is not convinced that Maresca's revamped squad is any stronger than before, suggesting the club's recruitment has lacked impact despite eight summer arrivals costing around £250million combined. 'When I look at Chelsea, I think about what you did in the Club World Cup – everyone wanted to win it,' said the former Liverpool defender, speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate. ' Real Madrid really wanted to win, PSG did, and so did Manchester City, all those that we class as the best teams. 'So I do think it's a big thing and it will help build a connection between Enzo Maresca and the supporters, which wasn't really there last season. 'I'm not sure it'll push Chelsea any closer to the title though. When Chelsea do business, over the last couple of years, it feels like a lot of players are changing without anyone really lifting the level. 'I know Cole Palmer has been amazing, but all your wingers feel the same. 'A perfect example is [Jamie] Gittens coming in and Madueke leaving – there is no elevation, and I see that with a lot of positions at Chelsea.' Carragher was referring to the £55m arrival of England Under-21 winger Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, who has effectively replaced Noni Madueke – now at Arsenal following a £52m switch. Several big-name players have left Stamford Bridge once again this summer, reflecting Chelsea's ongoing squad churn during the Boehly era, with Joao Felix, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also departing in deals worth more than £150m combined. Incoming players include Joao Pedro (£60m), Liam Delap (£30m), Jorrel Hato (£37m), Estevao Willian (£28m), Dário Essugo (£18.5m), and Mamadou Sarr (£12m). Both Pedro and Delap made an instant impact by scoring in the Club World Cup, before Brazilian teenager Estevao — who played against the Blues in the USA — officially joined following his 18th birthday. However, Maresca's long-term project has also seen several new arrivals head straight out on loan to BlueCo's French club Strasbourg, including Sarr and Kendry Paez. Carragher, who has previously criticised Chelsea's policy of handing out ultra-long contracts, believes the current structure could eventually backfire. Discussing Cole Palmer earlier this year, Carragher said: 'He may become like a Steven Gerrard-type figure in a team that's not quite good enough – and then it's frustrating, because you feel like you're better than everybody else. 'And when you're on those long contracts, it's difficult to get out.' Palmer, a standout performer last season, is tied to the club until 2033 – a reflection of the Boehly regime's strategy but one that Carragher remains wary of. Chelsea will kick off their 2025-26 campaign on August 17 with a London derby against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Alan Shearer names two stars Newcastle MUST sign after Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko blows

Newcastle United have missed out on a host of transfer targets this summer and their former striker Alan Shearer has offered up advice as the new season looms large Alan Shearer believes Newcastle United should respond to missing out on Benjamin Sesko by signing not one but two forwards. The Magpies could end the summer losing last season's top scorer Alexander Isak and failing to land potential replacements including Sesko, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ektiike. ‌ Newcastle had a bid accepted for Slovenia striker Sesko, but he is poised to choose Manchester United instead. Isak could yet remain at St James' Park amid interest from Liverpool, but isn't back in Eddie Howe's good books just yet. ‌ Now, Shearer believes now is the time for manager Howe to step up his pursuit of Ollie Watkins and long-time target Yoane Wissa. Brentford star Wissa has returned to training, just like Isak, but could similarly find himself getting a move before August is up. ‌ "The Wissa situation sounds very similar to the Isak situation where they're both pushing for a move to get what they want," Shearer told Betfair. "Ollie Watkins has been heavily linked with other clubs - Man United being one of them. Whether a deal between Newcastle and Aston Villa could be done, I don't know. "I am an admirer of Ollie, but I suspect the Aston Villa fans and the manager won't appreciate me and other people talking about their centre-forward going to different clubs." Indeed, Watkins' Villa are due to play Newcastle on the opening weekend of the season, and the England striker scored in the opening minute when the two teams last met. Newcastle qualified for the Champions League after a fifth place finish last term, but the teams above them have all strengthened. Howe's side have been relatively quiet in the window so far, though, and Shearer recognises this could end up harming them. "It's a merry-go-round at the minute," he continued. "When you look at the chasing pack, with the business and astronomical fees that have been paid out by the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, when you look at the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton and others, that's how difficult it's going to be to break into the top four. This merry-go-round will continue until the end of the window." Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale have already completed moves to Newcastle this summer, bringing Premier League experience. And, while Sesko may have a higher ceiling than other targets, a league-ready option could end up suiting Howe. ‌ "If Newcastle were to get Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins, I think that would be two really good signings but I don't think Aston Villa and Brentford fans would appreciate me talking about their players like we are," Shearer added. "If those deals could be done, it'd be a huge plus for Newcastle and they need it. Even if Isak stays, they still need another centre-forward because they've lost Callum Wilson. "I've seen Sesko in the Champions League and I know he's very young but he is raw. There's definitely talent there but he's in no way the finished article and will have to improve a lot. I'd say the same if he came to Newcastle. Whereas Wissa and Watkins know the Premier League and are proven in the Premier League."

Mikel Arteta drops major hint over Max Dowman ahead of new Premier League season

Mikel Arteta has hinted Arsenal's 15-year-old wonderkid Max Dowman is set for a major breakthrough in the upcoming Premier League campaign. The teenager has shined for the Gunners in pre-season, once again registering an impressive performance in Wednesday's 3-2 friendly defeat to Villarreal at the Emirates. Dowman is hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Hale End academy graduates Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri and break into Arsenal's first team. Ahead of Arsenal's opening game of the season against Manchester United on August 17, Arteta says Dowman 'deserves to have chances' if he keeps up his stunning form. Quizzed about the England U17 international attacking midfielder, who has conjured up a remarkable 20 goals and 10 assists in just 25 games for Arsenal U18s, Arteta said: 'He continues to impress, without a doubt. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. 'The impact he had in the game again today, the efficiency that he shows in every attack and action, it's incredible. 'He deserves to have chances and if he continues like this, let's see what happens. 'The most similar one was Ethan [Nwaneri]. I think it was a different stage there, but he managed it so fast. 'Even last year when he was training with us, he was doing this kind of thing in training and now he's doing it in the game consistently. 'So the three or four games that he's played, he's managed to impact and have big moments in the game. '[When my players] have the ball, they give it to [Dowman]. That tells you how much they trust him and the relationship he's building within the team. 'I think there's nothing better than that. The confidence they show to make things happen and the constant connection they have with him.' Quizzed directly if Dowman will feature in the Premier League, Arteta added: 'Let's see how it goes. Let's go into Saturday, into the break as well. 'He needs a little break as well because he hasn't had any holidays really, so in the next few days he's going to have a break which I think he needs and then he'll probably be ready again to go.' More Trending Meanwhile, former Arsenal wonderkid Charlie Patino has urged Dowman to stay grounded ahead of a potential Premier League debut, telling The Sun: 'I'd say to him to keep your head down, be grounded, be humble. 'Listen to the people around you. Listen to the players who've got a lot more experience. 'He's a lot younger than me. I've seen a few clips and he looks like a very quality player. At an age like that, we don't want to put too much pressure on him. 'It's all about timing. Time will tell where he gets to. I wish him all the best in what he does.'
