Five spider species discovered in Jordanian amber, dating back 140 million years. - Jordan News

Jordanian scientist Abbas Haddadin discovered five spider species in Jordanian amber, dating back 140 million years. Spiders are arthropods, evolved from sea crabs 380 million years ago. Spiders lived 150 million years before the dinosaurs. Spiders differ from other insects in that they have four pairs of legs and a body made up of two segments without antennae. اضافة اعلان The spiders in Jordanian amber are the oldest spiders in the world preserved in amber. Among the Jordanian spiders is a spider with spines on its legs, as pictured. This spider is the ancestor of the world's spiders and is related to the American Illinois spider, whose fossil was found in rock with spines on its legs. It dates back 300 million years. It was named Douglas-eyed Acanthopoda and discovered in 2024. The Jordanian spider, which has thorny legs, was brought to Jordan by German scientist Georg Wunderlich specifically to photograph it for his book on spiders in amber. In the photos, we see a female insect that fell into the spider's threads. We know that spiders wove webs for insects 140 million years ago, as the photo indicates. Email:[email protected]
