Gregg Wallace: I'm not a groper, sex pest or flasher

Telegraph2 days ago
Former MasterChef host Gregg Wallace has pledged to clear his name following his sacking from the BBC and said: 'I'm not a groper, a sex pest or a flasher.'
The 60-year-old defended himself and described being grouped with sex offenders Jimmy Savile and Huw Edwards as 'horrific'.
In his first interview with The Sun at his home in Kent, he said his aim in speaking out was not 'to play the victim'.
Wallace lost his job following complaints from a number of women over the years.
'There's so much that I want to say, and so much that I want to put right, if I can,' he said.
'I'm not saying I'm not guilty of stuff, but so much has been perceived incorrectly. Things that really hurt me and hurt my family.'
The former TV star, who did not take a fee for the interview, added: 'I'm not a groper.
'People think I've been taking my trousers down and exposing myself – I am not a flasher.
'People think I'm a sex pest.
'I am not.
'I am not sexist or a misogynist, or any of it.
'There never were any accusations of sexual harassment.
'I have seen myself written about in the same sentence as Jimmy Savile and Huw Edwards, paedophiles and sex offenders.
'That is just so, so horrific.'
'I don't expect any sympathy'
Wallace, who is married to wife Anna and has a six-year-old son, Sid, said he was still learning about himself and had done so over the past eight months as he was diagnosed with autism back in January.
'I know I have said things that offended people, that weren't socially acceptable and perhaps they felt too intimidated or nervous to say anything at the time,' he said.
'I understand that now – and to anyone I have hurt, I am so sorry.
'I don't expect anyone to have any sympathy with me but I don't think I am a wrong 'un.'
A total of 45 of 83 complaints have been upheld in the wake of a report into Wallace's behaviour by law firm Lewis Silkin.
The complaints were made by 41 people and during the course of his career he worked with 4,000 people, who were cast, crew and production; 0.5 per cent of people had criticised him.
But he admitted the figure was too high.
He also lent his support to former MasterChef co-host John Torode and said: 'He's not a racist.'

Teenager, 18, has ‘three-quarters of scalp ripped off' on funfair ride in Hampshire

An 18-year-old woman has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after her hair reportedly became caught in a funfair ride in Hampshire at the weekend. Emergency services were called to Netley Marsh Steam and Craft show shortly before 11pm on Saturday after the teenager's hair was said to have been trapped in the rollers of a swinging floor. Emma Perry, a nurse from Southampton General Hospital, told the Southern Daily Echo: 'Her friend came off the ride and said she was bleeding, so I offered my services as a first aider. 'When I got up there, I saw that three-quarters of the girl's scalp had been ripped off in what we call a degloving incident.' One woman told the BBC that she had helped provide first aid to the teenager, and that there had been 'shock and panic' at the scene. "One of the girl's friends came down and said how serious it was and some of us offered assistance,' she said. "It's very shocking it could happen on a fairground ride that young children go on. This must never happen again.' In a post on Facebook, the show's organisers said: 'The unfortunate incident that happened at the show last evening is being investigated by the relevant authorities. 'Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show Ltd are cooperating with all parties involved. No further comment will be made until such time as appropriate and more information is available. 'Any comments made at present on social media are NOT the views of the show organisers and we will continue to support all parties involved. A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: 'We were called at 10.53pm on 26 July with reports that an 18-year-old woman had sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her head while on a ride at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show. 'She was taken to hospital for treatment. 'Police attended and have liaised with the Health and Safety Executive.'

EastEnders star's wife is rushed to hospital as she's left unable to speak hours before family holiday

EastEnders star Ricky Champ's wife Sammy was rushed to hospital as she was left unable to speak and with swollen eyes just hours before they were due to go on family holiday. Sammy shares two children with the actor, who played Stuart Highway in the iconic soap from 2018 to 2022, and has been suffering from an ongoing health issue. And with just hours before she was supposed to meet her acting husband at Disney, she was left with swollen eyes and was forced to get medical help. In a Story shared to Instagram, Sammy shared a snap of her sore-looking eyes and her swollen lips as her skin broke out into hives. Alongside the post, she penned: 'What is the absolute one thing you don't need to happen the day before you fly to Disney when you need to go shopping/ pack/clean/do that's right, wake up with your lips so swollen you can't speak and eyes swollen shut so you're in A&E at 7am. 'One of the side effects of my gallstones and liver is severe hives all over my body every single morning that go away by bedtime then I wake up and it starts all over again. 'Something due to the toxins etc (still not considered urgent though, still been told need to wait a year + for an op).' After seeking medical advice, Sammy revealed her face had returned to normal and was no longer swollen ahead of their trip to France. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with the character struggling to bond with his baby Roland. He had struggled with his mental health after his diagnosis with breast cancer and he is having trouble adjusting to parenthood after he and wife Rainie (Tanya Franks) tried for a child for a long time. Ricky first set foot in Albert Square back in 2018 and has landed a spell of intense storylines, including confessing to accidentally killing DI Steve Thompson (Philip Wright) - who later turned out be alive. He also admitted to being a vigilante paedophile hunter which stemmed from being sexually abused as a child. The actor's additional ventures include his role as Paul Parker in the BBC Three sitcom Him & Her and a Games Of Thrones appearance as Gatins. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with him struggling to bond with his baby Ricky filmed his final scenes as Stuart late in 2022. 'In EastEnders I went from villain to hero to dad,' he told Digital Spy at the time of his exit. 'It was amazing, doing that for five years with a character's arc. It felt weird leaving him,' he admitted. Ricky hasn't ruled out a return to the soap someday, as he claimed that anything is possible. 'He didn't die. He rode off into the sunset. I think he's somewhere in the North Circular living with Rainie,' he said of his character.
