HE won seven trophies in Glasgow and played a crucial role in the famous win over Barcelona in 2012.
But that heroic performance for Celtic at Parkhead was eclipsed this season as he topped off his latest stint in football with his first European winner's medal.

Fraser Forster is now unemployed at the age of 37 after being released by Tottenham Hotspur - less than two weeks after lifting the Europa League trophy in Spain.
The former Celtic goalkeeper, who enjoyed two spells in Scotland, now has a decision to make on his future in the game after ending his time with Ange Postecoglou's side.
Forster made 34 appearances for Spurs in three years after being brought to the club in 2022 as backup keeper.
He played 20 times in his first campaign with the club but was handed just one appearance in his second - and his first under Postecoglou.
But this season he was brought back into the fold once again after injuries to Guglielmo Vicario left him out of the side.
Forster was between the sticks in four Europa League ties and nine domestic fixtures.
He even faced his old rivals Rangers at Ibrox in December but failed to keep a clean sheet after Hamza Igamane hit the back of the net to make it 1-0.
But Forster had plenty of clean sheets against the Light Blues earlier in his career, having kept them out as many as seven times for Celtic.
The towering Englishman is considered by many to be the Hoops' greatest goalie in recent decades.
His first spell in Scotland was over a period of four years in which he had back-to-back loan stints before joining on a permanent deal from Newcastle for £2m.
Fraser Forster reveals the one piece of rare Celtic memorabilia he will never sell
He left for Southampton in 2014 for £10m and returned north of the border on another loan in 2019.
During that first spell he earned the nickname La Gran Muralla (The Great Wall) thanks to his heroics in the aforementioned European upset over the Catalan giants.
The Hoops narrowly lost at the Nou Camp but at Celtic Park he was the star of the show, repelling the Spanish armada wave after wave of attack.
His exploits at one end allowed for Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt to write themselves into the history books at the other end, as Celtic recorded a famous 2-1 win over Lionel Messi and Co.
The Argentine superstar would later go on to say of Forster that night: "There was one game in Scotland when he was not human, it was the best goalkeeping performance I have seen."
And after the game, Forster made sure it was he who ended up with Messi's shirt.
Forster won four league titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup during his time in Scotland.
He was voted Celtic's Players' Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons - in 2013 and 2014.

Man Utd transfer news: Benjamin Sesko boost as Bruno Fernandes makes demand

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes wants to see more signings before the transfer window slams shut and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is their top target Manchester United are looking to bounce back this season after their worst ever Premier League finish. United finished 15th last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. ‌ They have already strengthened their squad with additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, while Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan and Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof have been released. ‌ Plenty more incomings and outgoings are expected before the transfer window slams shut, with Ruben Amorim keen to ship out the likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. ‌ Sesko boost Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko after it emerged that the striker's RB Leipzig team-mate Lois Openda will not be making the move to Sunderland. United and Newcastle are both interested in signing Sesko, who netted 21 goals in 45 games across all competitions last season. Fellow Leipzig striker Openda had been heavily linked with Sunderland and it is unlikely they would have let two forwards leave in the same window. However, Sky Sports are now reporting that Openda will not be joining Sunderland and that Leipzig are likely to sell Sesko instead. Fernandes' transfer demand Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has said the club need to add "more quality" in the transfer market this summer. ‌ "It's improving, but it's not where we want it to be," Fernandes said after United drew 2-2 with Everton in pre-season. "It's a game of football, there's always passion there. Whatever happens, happens. There was nothing spicy there, it's normal, it is part of the game. It's been positive [the US tour] and it's good to create a bond with the players. "We looked a bit lazy today and we need to change that. We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that." ‌ Shearer verdict Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer is confident that Benjamin Sesko will be a success if he joins Manchester United this summer. When asked if Sesko has the skill-set to thrive in England, Shearer told Amazon Prime: "I do, I think it's a matter of who can afford him. There is no doubt that this football club has a history of making an absolute fortune on transfers and this guy could be the next one to come into the Premier League. "Either foot - left or right - which is great to see. The work rate, the work off the ball, he's got all them things and he's got very good technique, good balance and I don't think there is a doubt in my mind that and he would look very comfortable in the Premier League. I do think he has a lot to learn, but he can learn no doubt."

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin says work is continuing in the background as the club look to add new recruits before the end of the transfer window. The Dons started off their Premiership campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle, with an own goal from Graeme Shinnie and a second-half header from Stuart Findlay giving the hosts a deserved three points. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Thelin started three new Aberdeen signings - Adil Aouchiche, Nicolas Milanovic and Kusini Yengi - with goalkeeper Nic Suman and teenage midfielder Kjartan Kjartansson on the bench. The Scottish Cup holders continue to be linked with AC Milan's Serbian striker Marko Lazetic and appear light on options in the final third. Jimmy Thelin gives instructions during Aberdeen's 2-0 defeat by Hearts. | SNS Group The transfer window closes on September 1 and quizzed on the prospect of new additions, Thelin said: "I think it's always processes around the team in the transfer windows, but exactly what will happen is difficult to say. We're working on things, but also preparing this team who's here right now for the game at the weekend [Celtic], but who knows, the window is open." Asked if any fresh faces will come in before the Europa League play-off against FCSB or Drita on August 21, Thelin responded: "Again, we have work ongoing, but it's difficult to say exactly what's going to happen, but we have some ideas." Thelin conceded that Aberdeen were second best to Hearts at a raucous and expectant Tynecastle and refused to use the potential excuse of the Jambos having a competitive edge from their Premier Sports Cup matches. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'We need to grow in the future' "Congratulations to Hearts," the Swede continued. "I think we had an idea of how we were going to take on the game today in the first half with the ball, and we didn't succeed in that phase. Hearts put good pressure on us, and then they win these second balls and create a momentum with the crosses, they pick up the second ball and another cross, and then from there on they were better in the first half, and also these 50-50 situations around and inside the box. "I think in the second half we got better with the ball and started creating some chances in their box, but we were not really clinical today, and they were also good when they were first on the rebound, so we were not really there. "And then they find another situation and they score the second goal, and then it was difficult to try to find a way back into the game and give us a chance to get a point, but they were good in how they defended the box and how they challenged our box. In this challenge we need to take a step as a team and grow in the future.
