Nippon Kinzoku Boosts Sales Of Eco-friendly Stainless Steel Finish

Barnamaa day ago
KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Tokyo-based Nippon Kinzoku Co Ltd has announced it will ramp up sales of its Long Die Life (L-DieL) finish stainless steel, a surface-treated material designed to reduce die wear during press operations.
L-DieL works by softening the passive oxide film on stainless steel—a thin yet ultra-hard layer of chromium oxide that protects against corrosion but causes significant wear on pressing dies. The treatment mitigates this effect, improving productivity and extending tool life.
Certified as an 'Eco-Product', Nippon Kinzoku, in a statement said L-DieL supports customers in cutting costs while also aligning with the company's sustainability goals, including achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

Ringgit Rebounds To Close Higher On Better-Than-Expected 2Q GDP Forecast

WORLD By Harizah Hanim Mohamed KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 (Bernama) -- The ringgit rebounded from recent losses to end higher against the US dollar on Friday, supported by a better-than-expected forecast of Malaysia's second quarter growth, which signalled that the domestic economy remains resilient amid external uncertainties. At 6 pm, the local note rose to 4.2410/2455 from 4.2465/2510 at Thursday's close. Malaysia's economy is forecast to grow by 4.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q 2025) based on advance gross domestic product (GDP) estimates, slightly outpacing the previous quarter's 4.4 per cent. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the recent pre‑emptive overnight policy rate cut by Bank Negara Malaysia would likely support growth in the second half, especially as downside risks have increased. 'The ringgit appeared to have gained some strength today, improving 0.13 per cent against the US dollar,' he noted. Second quarter growth was driven by robust domestic demand, with the growth momentum sustained in April and May, with a stronger performance anticipated in June, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia's (DOSM) advance forecast today. At the close, the ringgit traded mostly easier against a basket of major currencies. It improved against the Japanese yen to 2.8517/8549 from 2.8548/8580 at yesterday's close, but eased versus the euro to 4.9336/9388 from 4.9217/9269 and retreated against the British pound to 5.6999/7060 from 5.6886/6946. The local note trended mostly higher against ASEAN currencies.

Over 20,000 Companies Use Sirim's Testing, Expertise Every Year

KULAI, July 18 (Bernama) -- It is estimated that more than 20,000 companies use SIRIM's testing and expertise each year, said SIRIM Berhad president and group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad. He said this included the manufacturing, plastics, road construction and apparel sectors. "We have the expertise and facilities to conduct testing and verification at SIRIM, apart from that, we also collaborate with all government agencies involved. ''This is to ensure that what is used by the industries, including in terms of construction and so on, is safe for use," he said at the 2025 SIRIM Silaturasa event at SIRIM Johor here today. Johor State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han was also present. Ahmad Sabirin, who was asked to comment on industries that utilised SIRIM's expertise, also said that SIRIM had an artificial intelligence (AI) centre, which, among other things, provided training and guidance to industry players through a programme sponsored by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). "Through this programme, we are targeting industries that use AI under the Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) ecosystem. "So, we want to ensure that this year, 40 companies will receive guidance and next year the government is targeting around 3,000 companies over three years, with the companies targeted to become mentors to smaller firms,'' he said. He said that the initiative, which was supported by the government, would ensure that Malaysia continued to progress in line with the rapid development of technology.
