‘Fought with grit, heart, and determination': Steven Adams reflects on Rockets' season
The 2024-25 NBA season didn't have the desired postseason ending for the Houston Rockets, but it was a largely successful one for veteran center Steven Adams.
After missing all of last season due to knee surgery, Adams worked his way back into form in 2024-25 and took on a massive role in the 2025 playoffs, finishing as Houston's most impactful player (by many metrics) in its first-round series against Golden State.
Days after Houston lost its winner-take-all Game 7, the 31-year-old took to Instagram to thank fans of the team. The Rockets concluded the regular season at 52-30 and No. 2 in the Western Conference, representing their best finish this decade.
Via Instagram, Adams shared his thoughts on the journey:
Houston, thank you. The energy, passion, and unwavering support you brought to the arena this year were nothing short of incredible. I hope we represented this city with the pride and resilience that define what it means to be a Houstonian.
Going to battle with the brothers was an honor. We fought with grit, heart, and determinationdisplaying the kind of resilience that goes beyond the court. Proud of the boys and everything we learned together.
Adams will be an unrestricted free agent in the upcoming 2025 offseason, though there appears to be mutual interest in a return to Houston.
In seven contests against the Warriors, Adams averaged 5.7 points (60.0% FG), 6.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game. Beyond his on-court contributions, the New Zealand native is also extremely well regarded for his leadership skills and locker-room presence.

4-star TE recruit projected to commit to Georgia over LSU, Penn State

Georgia could lose junior tight end Lawson Luckie and senior tight end Oscar Delp to the 2026 NFL draft, so Georgia's tight end room could use a few reinforcements next year. Altuve, who is 35 years old, has played most of his career at second base, but has played at left field this year. So it appears the front office could trade for one of those positions and allow Jose Altuve to play whichever position they need him to. 'The Astros' best fit in what they seek in a hitter is someone who could play second base or left field, and they can move Jose Altuve accordingly. Per Fangraphs, Astros have a 94.5% chance to reach the postseason; they lead the Mariners by five games in the AL West.' It's not entirely clear who the Astros are possibly targeting in a trade. But all things considered, securing one of those two positions would be wise, especially considering Jose Altuve has shown consistency in both positions. So the front office has the privilege of addressing one or the other ahead of the trade deadline. Altuve is having another strong season as he's been one of the most consistent players in baseball throughout his career. So far this year, the two-time World Series winner owns a .281 batting average and a .342 OBP while recording 107 hits, 17 home runs, and 53 RBIs. The MLB trade deadline is on July 31. So the Astros still have some time to make a potential deal if they choose to do so. They have six games on the schedule until then with a matchup against the Athletics set for Saturday evening. The Astros are winning games despite not having some of their best players available. After their latest injury move, the Astros now have a league-leading 18 players on the IL, more than the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Friday, the Astros placed left-handed starter Brandon Walter on the IL. He joins Luis Garcia, Lance McCullers Jr., Cristian Javier, J.P. France, Spencer Arrighetti, Shawn Dubin, Ronel Blanco, Hayden Wesneski, and Glenn Otto on the IL as just pitchers. The Astros also have some of their best talent on the IL offensively. Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Isaac Paredes, and Jake Meyers are also on the IL. Despite this, Houston is 60-43 and leading the AL West by five games over the Seattle Mariners. Walter has started nine games for the Astros this season. In those nine games, he has won only one of them, but has pitched well and improved as he went on. Walter has a 3.35 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 52 strikeouts, and only four walks on the season. He pitched so great that his WAR reached 1.4 in just nine appearances. In his last outing, Walter allowed just one run on four hits in 7.0 innings pitched. He allowed just four runs in his last three starts combined. The Astros are losing a great young pitcher with elbow inflammation. It's unclear at this time how long he will be on the injured list. It won't be easy with all the injuries, but Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown must hold down the fort for as long as possible. Colton Gordon will have a significantly improved role, and so will Ryan Gusto. But those two can't be relied on to win games on their own. Look for the Astros to consider trading for a starter to provide needed depth as the MLB Trade Deadline approaches. Manager Joe Espada's squad is more than capable of winning another World Series. But if they want that to be the reality, then they need to get healthier.
