Startups take the stage as NBO concludes first Fintech Accelerator Programme

Muscat – The National Bank of Oman (NBO) successfully concluded the Demo Day of its inaugural Fintech Accelerator Programme, marking a significant milestone in the Bank's commitment to driving innovation within the financial services industry. Held at NBO headquarters, the event brought together regulators, investors, industry leaders, and strategic partners to witness the final showcase of solutions developed by five high-potential fintech start-ups.
Mustahil Ahmed Al Mamari, Assistant General Manager & Head of Strategy and Transformation at NBO, commented, 'Demo Day is more than a showcase of innovation, it is a continuation of NBO's long-standing legacy of driving change in financial services. Through the Fintech Accelerator, we're not only backing promising startups, we're fostering collaboration across the industry to deliver customer-centric solutions and contribute meaningfully to Oman's digital and economic transformation. Demo Day marked the culmination of this journey, providing a platform for startups to present their progress, business value, and opportunities for investment, partnerships, and market entry.'
The selected start-ups: ThemarIP, E-Hissab, Pyra.AI, Saree3, and InstaSpace, were chosen for their innovative approaches to enhancing banking operations and customer experiences. Their solutions span AI-driven financial reporting, fraud detection, personalised investment platforms, and SME-focused payment services.
Launched in partnership with Al Jabr MENA, the NBO Fintech Accelerator Programme is a strategic initiative aimed at identifying, mentoring, and scaling fintech ventures that address real-world banking challenges. Over the course of the programme, participating startups worked closely with NBO teams, received tailored guidance, and tested their products in a live banking environment.
As a pioneer in digital banking, NBO is building a robust platform for fintech growth. By supporting entrepreneurship and fostering a culture of experimentation, the Bank aligns its efforts with Oman Vision 2040, which places innovation at the core of economic diversification.
This is the first accelerator of its kind in Oman's banking sector. Through mentorship, industry insights, and real-market testing, NBO is creating a supportive environment for fintech development while strengthening partnerships, encouraging knowledge exchange, and building scalable digital solutions.

MBRIF revealed that the Demo Day aimed to highlight groundbreaking projects from startups operating in the UAE and globally. These companies are looking to expand their presence in the country and represent key sectors including health, transport, education, technology, clean energy, water, and space. The startups competed for three key awards: Best Pitch Best UAE Homegrown Business Most Impactful Business The event began with welcome remarks from Shaker Zainal, Head of MBRIF and Chief Business Officer at Emirates Development Bank. A keynote address followed, delivered by H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, CEO of Emirates Development Bank. Member companies delivered innovative presentations, showcasing their creativity and market potential. The Ministry of Finance's representative at MBRIF, Fatima Yousif Alnaqbi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector, praised the achievements of Cohort 9. She reported that the presentations aligned with the goals of the UAE's National Innovation Strategy. Alnaqbi emphasized MBRIF's ongoing commitment to support startups through tailored mentorship, strategic networking, and world-class resources. She added that this support equips startups to grow and compete on a global scale. Alnaqbi congratulated all participants and noted MBRIF's readiness to continue backing their journey. A panel of industry experts evaluated the pitches. The judges included: Ali AlMajthoob, Managing Director at MEVP Ivo Detelinov, General Partner at Salica Investments Karim Konsowa, Portfolio Manager at Hub71 The judges focused on the strengths and potential of each company in both local and global markets. At the end of the event, MBRIF announced the award winners. Aura received the Best Pitch Award. Mantas was named Best UAE Homegrown Business. Neuroblast won the Most Impactful Business Award. MBRIF reported that its Innovation Accelerator Program continues to serve as a key driver of innovation and entrepreneurship in the UAE. The program supports startups in vital sectors and aligns with national strategies to foster innovation. The Demo Day provided a platform for startups to connect with investors, gain exposure, and access growth opportunities. MBRIF affirmed its role in offering mentorship, insights, and global networking to help startups scale sustainably.

Oman: New public transport hub to come up in Buraimi

Buraimi – The Governorate of Buraimi and Mwasalat signed an agreement last week to establish a new integrated public transport station in the wilayat of Buraimi. The project forms part of efforts to expand sustainable mobility infrastructure under Oman Vision 2040. The new transport station will be developed in the North Aqda area on a 56,000sqm plot, serving both intercity and local routes. Facilities will include a smart taxi terminal, micro-mobility options, air-conditioned waiting areas, commercial and logistics spaces, parking for buses and private vehicles, as well as dedicated offices for operations. The agreement was signed in the presence of H E Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, Governor of Buraimi, signed on behalf of the governorate, while Eng Bader bin Mohammed al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, represented the company. Under the terms of the agreement, Mwasalat will take on technical responsibilities including design specifications and implementation oversight. The company will also manage and operate the station once it is completed. The governorate will provide funding and manage regulatory aspects such as land allocation and zoning approvals. Busaidi said the station would support a shift in the public transport landscape in Buraimi. 'The station will serve a large number of passengers, especially with the 12 daily trips between Muscat and Buraimi,' he said. 'It will also reinforce Buraimi's position as a key transit point along the Muscat-Abu Dhabi corridor.' Eng Nadabi said the project also has commercial potential. 'A tender for the station's development and operation will be issued shortly,' he said. 'Construction is due to begin within three months and is expected to be completed in three years.' Available until 30 June 2025, this limited-time offer supports homeowners by providing accessible, value-driven financing solutions. The offer combines subsidised financing under OHB's Iskan initiative and Muzn Islamic Banking Shari'a-compliant Credit Card, blending affordability with convenience and ethical banking benefits. This also enables new homeowners to conveniently finance essential home-related purchases such as appliances, furniture and other setup costs, supporting a smoother transition into their new homes.
