Edited Excerpts:
Segment 1: Ignite
Considering the sheer number of issues at play, what was the MVP idea for Pharmarack to start things off in its mission to digitise the trade channel?
India's pharma sector is highly fragmented, with over 500 ERP systems creating supply chain and visibility challenges. To solve this, we built a lightweight ordering app that integrates with 200+ distributor ERPs, enabling real-time inventory access and direct ordering, reducing dependency on traditional ways of ordering, manual ordering via phone/chat, and driving early, impactful adoption.
Give us a behind the scenes look at how Pharmarack built this momentum play in terms of organic growth for its product stack by resolving relevant customer pain points?
The real breakthrough came from empowering retailers--the essential link in pharmaceutical sales--who previously relied on calls and handwritten notes and couldn't invest in technology. By giving them an intuitive ordering platform, we generated strong adoption pull, which in turn convinced distributors and manufacturers of its value in bridging their gap with retailers. Positioned at that critical point in the value chain, we now offer a comprehensive suite--Pharm Retail, PharmConnect 2.0, Trusales, and PharmScan that addresses challenges across the entire pharmaceutical distribution network.
Segment 2: Launch
Was your pure B2B play a blessing since it's easier to gauge market expansion possibilities in a B2B framework versus a B2C model? What makes Pharmarack a resilient business?
Being a B2B provider in pharma distribution isn't easy--our customers are institutionalized businesses laser-focused on sales and ROI, and they won't hesitate to voice their needs. They only adopt tools that deliver tangible business value.
At Pharmarack, we've deliberately built deep relationships with small retailers and distributors to truly understand their pain points and design solutions that address real-world challenges. With over a million retailers in the market, the opportunity is vast--but so are the demands on service, resilience, and industry expertise. Today, we boast one of the largest pharma catalogues--nearly 450,000 SKUs across 15,000 distributor catalogues, each mapped to unique product codes--and handle phenomenal order volumes. Our end-to-end integrations span retailers, distributors, and manufacturers, giving us a unique competitive edge in delivering seamless, high-value solutions.
Sub-segment: Boost
How have your AI-enabled efforts on AWS brought about consistency of the data catalogue throughout your pharma value chain?
India's pharmaceutical landscape is highly fragmented, with distributors and retailers using diverse systems and inconsistent product names. Pharmarack brings structure to this complexity by combining advanced AI/ML capabilities with the power of AWS and Snowflake. At the core of this solution is our extensive product catalogue, housing over 450,000 medicines, each uniquely tagged for precise identification. This enables our system to instantly match user inputs to the correct SKU within milliseconds, ensuring a smooth, e-commerce-like experience for all users.
Segment 3: Orbit
What needs to be the top priority for India to reach those targets and increase its influence in the global pharma value chain?
To reach India's goal of becoming the world's third-largest economy, the pharmaceutical sector must tackle several critical challenges. First, we need to overhaul supply chains for reliability and cost-efficiency. Second, we must enhance transparency and implement robust track-and-trace systems. Third, embracing GenAI and other cutting-edge technologies will drive innovation in this industry. Fourth, ramping up R & D investment and developing our patented drugs is essential. Addressing these five key areas will be vital for pharma--and for India's broader economic ambitions.
PharmaTech is emerging as a powerful catalyst in transforming India's healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape. By integrating advanced technologies into drug discovery, manufacturing, and delivery, PharmaTech is driving greater efficiency, transparency, and accessibility across the sector. This innovation-led growth is not only strengthening India's position in the global pharmaceutical arena but also playing a vital role in the country's broader mission to become a developed economy.
Stay tuned to Crafting Bharat - Season 2 as we bring you these inspiring entrepreneurs for insightful and candid discussions with Gautam Srinivasan.

India's education system transformed in last few years: Min
1 2 Berhampur: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said the country's higher education ecosystem has transformed a lot in the last few years, and India has become the favourite destination of global educational institutions. While several global institutes have opened their campuses in the country, others are in the pipeline. Some of our institutes also opened their campuses in foreign countries. IIM Ahmedabad will soon open its campus in Dubai, said Pradhan, while addressing the convocation at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur. Highlighting the growth of education in the country, he said the total enrolment of students touched around 4.46 crore in 2022-23, a 30% increase since 2014-15. The female enrolment during the period grew by around 38 to 40%. "This indicates the govt's commitment towards inclusive education," he said. The govt implemented the New Education Policy-2020, keeping an eye on achieving India as a developed nation by 2047—the Viksit Bharat, call of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Urging the students to become "job creators and not be job-seekers," he said they should be involved in innovation. Addressing the convocation of Berhampur University earlier, he urged the students to work hard to achieve the Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat in 2036 and 2047, respectively, as called by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Bharat number one in economics in the world. Odisha will celebrate its centenary of statehood in the next 11 years, while the country celebrates its centenary of achievement of freedom in 2047. The young students should play a key role in achieving the Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat in the next 11 and 22 years, said Pradhan. University is not an institute to teach, but it should be involved in research and evolve innovations, he said. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati addressed the convocations of both the institutes and highlighted the growth of the education ecosystem of the country in the last few years, which makes it flexible and innovation-driven. Ashok Kumar Ganguli, director, IISER Berhampur, highlighted the achievements of the institute. In the convocation, 136 BS-MS, one MS degree, and 22 PhD students received their degrees. The governor inaugurated the state-of-the-art "central advanced instrumentation facility" on the IISER campus. Berhampur University awarded honorary to Ajit Kumar Mohanty, secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Tessy Thomas, former Director General, Aeronautical Systems, DRDO and known as the "Missile Woman of India," and Raimati Ghiuria, seed custodian, well known as Millet Queen. Tariffs impact limited, says SBI chairman
Hyderabad: Though the direct impact of tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on India's exports and the bank's asset quality is limited, certain sectors such as chemicals, textiles, gems, jewellery, and aquamarine exports from the two Telugu states could face challenges, SBI chairman CS Setty said on Saturday. "The narrative around tariffs and the uncertainty they bring is more concerning than the direct impact," Setty said on the sidelines of the rollout of SBI General Insurance's first lot of dedicated health insurance branches in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Emphasising that the geographical and product diversity of India's exports provides a buffer against these tariffs, he said the Indian govt, along with banks, is exploring ways to support affected sectors, including potential relief measures for pending export bills. "These two companies are serious candidates for listing," he said, indicating a strategic move to unlock value and enhance growth. "If you look at the investment SBI made in its 18 subsidiaries, it is about 6,500 crore, but today these subsidiaries are valued at around Rs 4 lakh crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Stylish New Mobility Scooters Available for Seniors (Prices May Surprise You) Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Search Now Undo This is the value we created for stakeholders," he said. Talking about the health insurance sector, he said with medical inflation rising to 14-16%, health insurers need to get into more tie-ups with local hospitals. On the move to set up the first-of-its-kind dedicated health insurance branches in tier-3 and -4 centres, he said SBI is first piloting this in the two Telugu states, with 15 branches each initially, before rolling it out nationally to cater to underserved populations and contribute to the Viksit Bharat vision of 'Insurance for All' by 2047. He said these branches will exclusively focus on health insurance and personal accident products, with an eye on enhancing health insurance awareness and accessibility in the two states where SBI General Insurance already has a network of 2,185 hospitals.
