UK PM Keir Starmer calls PM Modi, strongly condemns "barbaric terror attack"
UK PM Keir Starmer conveyed his condolences on the loss of innocent lives to Prime Minister Modi.
The details of the call were shared by the Ministry of External Affairs' spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, in a post on X.
"PM @Keir_Starmer of UK called PM @narendramodi and conveyed his sincere condolences on the innocent lives lost in the heinous terror attack on Indian soil. He strongly condemned the barbaric terror attack and expressed that UK stands with the people of India in this hour of tragedy."
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof extended his condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Strongly condemning the "cowardly act," PM Schoof rejected terrorism in all its forms and expressed solidarity with India.
In response, Prime Minister Modi thanked the Netherlands for their support, emphasising India's commitment to collaborating closely with the Netherlands in strengthening the global fight against terrorism.
Following the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, the Central government announced several diplomatic measures, such as closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, giving them 40 hours to return to their country, and reducing the number of officers in the High Commissions on both sides.
India also halted the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960 in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. Recognised as one of the most successful international treaties, it has endured frequent tensions, including conflict. It has provided a framework for irrigation and hydropower development for over 50 years.
PM Modi also assured the country that the terrorists responsible for this attack, along with those who conspired it, will face punishment beyond their imagination, The Prime Minister asserted that the time has come to eliminate the remaining strongholds of terrorism and that the willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the backbone of the perpetrators of terror.

"Closely monitoring situation": India urges Cambodia, Thailand to prevent further escalation of hostilities
New Delhi: India on Saturday said that it was closely monitoring the situation following border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia urging both nations to cease hostilities. It has advised its nationals to avoid border areas and stay in touch for assistance. Earlier in the day, the Embassy of India in Cambodia issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals, advising them to avoid travelling to border areas due to the ongoing clashes on the Thailand-Cambodia border. In an official advisory message, it said, "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas." The Embassy also said that in case of any emergency, Indian nationals may approach the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or email [email protected]. Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued an advisory on Friday, following clashes near the Thailand-Cambodia border, urging Indian nationals to avoid travel to seven provinces in Thailand. The Mission advised travellers to check for updates from Thai official sources such as TAT Newsroom, the official online newsroom of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The deadly conflict on the Thai-Cambodian border pits a longtime United States ally with decades of experience against a relatively young armed force with close ties to China. The two countries are fighting over territory disputed since colonial power France drew the border between them more than a century ago, CNN reported.

"It was very productive meeting," Maldives VP on meeting PM Modi
Male: Maldivian Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef on Saturday said that the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a productive one. India-Oman FTA almost finalised, talks progressing with EU, US: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi : Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday announced that India's Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Oman is "almost finalised," and negotiations with several other key global economies, including the European Union, the United States, Peru, and Chile, are progressing rapidly. "We are in negotiations at an advanced stage with Oman. It is almost finalised," Goyal stated. He also mentioned that the FTAs with the European Union, the USA, Peru and Chile are also making "fast progress". At the press conference, the minister also pointed to a series of successful FTAs concluded with developed nations in recent years, including Mauritius, Australia, and the four-nation European Free Trade Association (EFTA) bloc, comprising Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. "The Free Trade Agreement between India and the UK, the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement, clearly reflects the growing relevance and importance of India on the world stage," Goyal said. "The goods and services that India provides to the world have high quality and cost competitiveness." The latest addition is the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the United Kingdom, which the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described as one of the most significant deals post-Brexit. Goyal noted that the agreement is "very comprehensive," covering 30 chapters. During the press conference, Goyal also highlighted the Prime Minister Modi's long-standing tenure and international reputation. "Yesterday, the Prime Minister completed 4,078 days and became the second longest serving Prime Minister continuously in office after Jawaharlal Nehru," he said. This forward-looking Agreement is aligned with India's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and complements the growth aspirations of both countries. Both nations desire to increase their trade to USD 120 billion by 2030. On Thursday, the UK government said that India's average tariff on UK products will drop from 15 per cent to 3 per cent under the India-UK FTA.
