Marilyn Manson Charts Another No. 1 — And Several New Top 10s

Despite serious controversies and legal issues, Marilyn Manson's fanbase has remained loyal. The rocker returns to the Billboard charts this week with brand new music, and he scores another immediate No. 1 right out of the gate with his latest tune. It seems that those who have followed his work for years are still intent on snapping up anything he delivers — especially the moment it becomes available.
Manson and his band recently covered "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. The track has become a surprise bestseller in several nations, especially in the United States. This frame, the tune launches on five Billboard charts, most of which are dedicated to pure purchases. It opens inside the top 10 on all but one of them, and even gives Manson another ruler to his credit.
"In the Air Tonight" opens at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Despite his longstanding success in that genre, Manson has now collected just three No. 1s on this list, and he only began earning them fairly recently after Billboard introduced the tally, which focuses solely on the bestselling hard rock cuts throughout the U.S., just a few years ago.
Manson first hit No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart in August 2020 with "We Are Chaos." He doubled his sum in August of the following year — which is becoming a special month for the musician — when "Sick of the Secrets Within" launched in first place. Both tunes held the top spot for just one frame.
Throughout his career, Manson has scored a lucky 13 top 10s on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. A few of those tracks — such as his cover of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," as well as "Deep Six" and "Raise the Red Flag" — missed out on the summit by just one space. He has pushed a total of 16 tracks onto the tally, with only three failing to reach the uppermost region.
"In the Air Tonight" just misses out on becoming a No. 1 on two other rankings at the same time. It starts at No. 2 on both the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts. It marks Manson's fifth top 10 on the alternative list and sixth on the rock-only ranking.
Manson also collects his fifth top 10 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs ranking this time around. "In the Air Tonight" debuts at No. 10, just barely managing to sneak into that uppermost region on the roster, which measures the most consumed and most popular hard rock-only smashes in the nation.
In its first full tracking frame of availability, Manson's cover of "In the Air Tonight" sold just under 2,200 copies, according to Luminate. That sum is just enough to bring it to the Digital Song Sales chart, where it launches at No. 22.
That position now marks a new all-time high for Manson on the list of the bestselling songs in America. His previous best (and only other hit), "God's Gonna Cut You Down," spent one week at No. 37 half a decade ago. The ranking now only features 25 spots, so "God's Gonna Cut You Down" wouldn't have even reached the roster this time around.

Cynthia Erivo Shares a Message of ‘Light & Positivity' For LGBTQ+ People Amid Political ‘Fear-Mongering'

As politicians around the world continue to pursue anti-LGBTQ+ agendas, Cynthia Erivo has a simple message for queer people in 2025: Don't let them win. In her new Billboard cover story published Monday (June 2), Erivo opens up about her thoughts on the Trump administration's continued attacks on LGBTQ+ rights. When asked by Billboard Pride editor Stephen Daw how she's coping with the political chaos, the singer-actress shared that she's focusing on trying to combat the vitriol with peace and calm. 'Fear-mongering is very powerful, and the only thing that you can do in order to offset that is to feed it with light and positivity.' For her queer and trans fans, Erivo highlights the importance of staying true to yourself, even amid a scary political landscape. 'I want to encourage people to not decide to just tuck away and start hiding and not being themselves anymore, because that is exactly what they want,' she says. 'The more yourself you are, the more you are in front of people who don't necessarily understand, the better understanding starts to happen.' All-star songwriter Justin Tranter agrees, saying that Erivo herself has become a powerful symbol for the LGBTQ+ community since her public coming out in 2022. 'Cynthia being Black and queer, and being one of the most famous people alive in this moment while our community is dealing with what we are dealing with, is no mistake,' they tell Billboard. 'For someone as talented as her to be a beacon for young Black queer people all over the world … is no accident.' Over the last few years, Erivo made a name for herself as one of the premiere performers at The Kennedy Center, where she's performed her own solo concerts while also honoring legends such as Dionne Warwick, Dame Julie Andrews and Earth, Wind & Fire. But earlier in 2025, President Trump announced that he was naming himself as the chairman of the prestigious arts organization, replacing existing board members with his own allies and ceasing any and all drag performances hosted by the Center. 'I don't know who gains what from that. I hope that it comes back,' Erivo says of Trump's takeover of the Kennedy Center. 'It's really sad to have to watch this happen to it. The Kennedy Center is supposed to be a space of creativity and art and music for everyone.'
