It's no secret that the Patrice Motsepe-owned Mamelodi Sundowns are the richest football club not only in South Africa, but the entire continent, and a top performance at the upcoming Club World Cup will be another feather in their cap.
Not that they were struggling for cash, but Mamelodi Sundowns will earn a handy R174 million simply for playing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the USA from June 14 to July 13.
FIFA had initially targeted a much larger participation fee of $50 million (around R911 million), but apparent issues the tournament ran into over sponsorships and broadcasting revenue saw the final figure radically reduced. Teams will also be awarded around R36m per win and R18m per draw in the group stages.
A total prize money of 1 billion US dollars (R18.2 billion) was confirmed for the tournament by FIFA. The winners of the event will pocket R2.2 billion.

"He's been doing this for more than 20 years. It's tough, but he's here with us and we're happy he scored again." The victory was Ronaldo's first against Germany, after five straight losses. Portugal last won against Germany in 2000. Portugal coach Roberto Martinez echoed Silva's statements, saying his "hunger" and desire to improve made him a unique figure in the sport. "It's difficult to put into words. He takes each day as an opportunity to get better," Martinez said. "As a human, when you have success, you wake up and you have less hunger. But not Cristiano." The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward also won praise from opposing coach Julian Nagelsmann, who singled out the veteran's professionalism as the reason for his longevity.

Mamelodi Sundowns could be set to lose on of their best players ahead of next season, according to reports. Sundowns have barely recovered from the heartache and pain of losing the CAF Champions League final to Pyramids FC. Now it looks like they may be set to see another rival on the continent pinch one of their top talents.
