School of Life Celebrates Languages and Launches Impact Track Phase 2 This April - Middle East Business News and Information

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is presenting a knowledge-rich programme filled with interactive workshops for visitors to Dubai Public Library branches through the April School of Life programme held under the theme 'Celebrating Languages.' Through its innovative clubs and tracks, the initiative, which falls under the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy, will host 37 public sessions focusing on developing life and creative skills, training participants in voice-over techniques, photography and impactful content creation, while also equipping them with skills to achieve psychological and physical balance, learn about enterprise resource planning, and more. This contributes to creating a broad space for creativity and the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The Reporters Training & Media Production Studio will host a voice-over workshop for adults who can learn voice control techniques and how to transform their voices into powerful tools for expression, impact, and delivering messages in an engaging and innovative way. The Junction in Alserkal Avenue is offering the 'Mastering Body Language' workshop, teaching to utilise body language to enhance non-verbal articulation and create a strong impression via posture and facial expressions to ensure comprehensive and persuasive communication.
Under the Wellness and Nutrition Club, families visiting Hatta Public Library can join Nada Kattan's pickle-making workshop, learning the technique of pickling fresh vegetables, exploring different flavours and techniques, while in Al Safa Art & Design Library, the Pilates Academy will offer a ladies-only Pilates class focused on enhancing strength and flexibility. Al Safa is also hosting four workshops under the Art Club, the first by Benedicte Gimonnet teaches how to transform foundational knowledge into visual creativity by painting mixed-media artworks inspired by landscapes. Abeer Al Edani is giving the 'Drawing on Wood' workshop, teaching how to prepare a wooden board and bring it to life with acrylic paints, while Medaf Creative Studio will offer two workshops: 'Art 101: Marbled Journal' that explores the art of marbling, and 'Art 101: Design Your Memory Box' that invites participants to design a unique box to stores their precious moments.
Al Mankhool Public Library will host the Chess Club sessions given by the Chess Academy. The first, 'Chess Wizards: Unlock Your Inner Grandmaster', dives into the secrets of grandmasters and advanced techniques to dominate the board, while the second, 'Battle of the Minds: Speed Chess Showdown', tests reflexes in a high-energy blitz and bullet chess competition, teaching them to think fast and play faster. In the third session, 'Master Chess Tricks: Surprise Your Opponent', joiners can learn sneaky traps, tactical tricks and clever strategies to surprise opponents in every game. The library will also host two Baybayin calligraphy workshops by Gino Banola, the first teaching them how to design their own hats using the ancient Filipino script, while the second focusing on scarves.
Al Mankhool Library is also offering the 'Enterprise Resource Planning' workshop under the Career Club, empowering participants to develop their professional skills in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) using Odoo, equipping them with best practices for implementation across different business environments. Additionally, it will provide them with an opportunity to present their ideas and projects interactively, enhancing their practical understanding of the system. Within the STEM Club in Al Twar Public Library and across multiple schools, the Green Leader Challenge by Baseet inspires students to create green projects, promoting sustainability and environmental leadership for a better future.
As part of the Creative Impact Track, Al Safa Art & Design Library will host two Ruq'ah Calligraphy workshops by Mohammad Altamimi, instructing in the technical fundamentals of properly shaping Ruq'ah script letters and connecting them in artistic contexts. The session will cover pen handling, proper posture, and the tools used to master the Ruq'ah script, concluding with a showcase of the learners' works at the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale that is taking place from 24 November to 19 December 2025. Also under the Creative Impact Track, the library has the Photography and Cinema Club's Professional Photography Publishing session by Reporters and Canon, aiming to empower those taking part to develop their skills in digital content by learning professional photography techniques and producing impactfully using different tools.

Dubai, UAE, May 2025: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced its participation in Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai, hosted by Japan and running until 13 October 2025. Such engagement underscores a commitment to the local creative sector and elevates global visibility by spotlighting the achievements of UAE-based talent and designers. It also highlights the Authority's dedication to supporting the UAE Pavilion and its diverse offerings, where architectural ingenuity merges with cultural richness. On 20-21 May, Dubai Culture will host a two-day symposium titled 'Pillars of Arish: Architecture in Transition,' organised in partnership with the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka and supported by the Dubai Cultural Grant, one of the key initiatives under Dubai's Quality of Life Strategy. Curated by Salem AlSuwaidi, Founder of SWALIF Collective and Co-founder of MamarLab, in collaboration with Rashed AlMulla, Founder of MABNAI and Co-founder of MamarLab, the symposium will feature keynote addresses and panel discussions that explore the evolving intersections of architecture, cultural identity, and material innovation in the UAE. From the influence of traditional knowledge, embodied in elements such as the arish and vernacular landscapes, to the integration of climate-responsive design and site sensitivity, the sessions examine architecture not merely as a built form, but as a dynamic cultural and ecological agent. The programme also opens space for dialogue on education, design enterprise, and the shared imperatives of sustainable, context-driven development. The delegation travelling to Osaka consists of 12 emerging and established architects and cultural professionals, namely: Ahmad Bukhash, Founder of Archidentity and designer of 'The Good Place' Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai; Fatima AlSuwaidi, Head of the Cultural Heritage Legislation and Policy Section, Ministry of Culture; Ahmed Al Ali, Founder of X-Architects; Fatima AlZaabi, Co-founder of D04 Studios; Abdalla AlMulla, Founder of MULA Design Studio; Lina Ahmed, Associate Professor of Sustainable Design at Zayed University; Laith AlSheyadi, Urban Planner at the Oman Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning; Reem Al Qamzi, Founder of Studio; Rakan Lootah, Founder of Rakan Lootah Studio; and Noora AlAwar, Co-founder of D04 Studios, as well as Hamad AlMutawa, Architect at Köda and Mohammad Salem AlShafiei, Engineer at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. The participating architects will explore Osaka and its neighbouring cities' architectural, cultural, and artistic landscapes from 16 to 19 May. Participants will explore the region's distinctive built environment and architectural marvels by visiting landmarks such as the National Museum of Art, , Umeda Sky Building by Hiroshi Hara, teamLab Botanical Gardens, as well as a special focus on Japense architect Tadao Ando with visits to the Tadao Ando exhibition at Grand Green Osaka, Kyoto Garden of Fine Arts, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Honpukuji Water Temple, and Yumebutai all designed by Tadao Ando. Shaima Rashed AlSuwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design & Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, stressed the significance of being part of Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai, saying: 'At Dubai Culture, we champion the role of arts and design as catalysts for cultural dialogue and creative diplomacy. 'Sukoon' by Roudha Fawazi Alhadhrami envisions a women-only yoga centre, where natural materials, ambient lighting, and the gentle sound of flowing water combine to heighten the sensory experience. Highlights also included Aysha Ali Bin Ghadayer's 'Beyond the Self,' a nuanced study of the soul's internal struggle between reproach and desire; Alyaza Ali Belabed's 'ELASSI,' a visionary showroom-and-boutique concept for the eponymous Emirati women's fashion label; and Fatima Hussein's 'Goodness,' which turns a reflective lens on life's maddening minutiae—from daily routines to exam pressures. The exhibition featured 'Burden of Loss' by Sara Mohammad Aljanahi, a poignant look at the impact of grief on daily life and its role in personal growth. In 'Our Beautiful Words,' student Alhanoof Alblooshi created handwritten cards using old Emirati vocabulary to help residents reconnect with their linguistic heritage. Organised in strategic partnership with HOUSE of PIANOS and Steinway & Sons Dubai Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has wrapped up its inaugural Piano Camp, organised in strategic partnership with HOUSE of PIANOS and Steinway & Sons Dubai. Designed to spotlight emerging talent and empower a new generation of Emirati artists, the six-month programme welcomed 17 performers for piano lessons, masterclasses, lectures, and technique workshops covering classical piano performance and music theory. Throughout the camp, the students explored the history of classical music, which helped refine their skills and enrich their expressive range. All participants advanced through the first and second rounds of the 1st Steinway Piano Competition GCC 2025, evaluated by an esteemed panel of Steinway Artists, renowned composers, professors, and internationally acclaimed pianists. Fatma Al Jallaf, Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at Dubai Culture, highlighted the Authority's drive to build a robust foundation that nurtures the growth of the music sector across the emirate. She said: 'By creating this platform, we aimed to give promising Emirati performers an exclusive opportunity to polish their craft and fuel their passion for music. Initiatives like these are essential for deepening Dubai's cultural tapestry and strengthening its creative industries. Piano Camp exemplifies our commitment to investing in future generations, ensuring the sustainability of the sector, and raising the city's profile as a leading destination for the arts.' Shavkat Mamadjonov, Founder of HOUSE of PIANOS UAE, expressed his pride in the participants' achievements. He said, 'Watching these young Emirati talents perform with such artistry and confidence on Steinway concert pianos at Steinway Hall has been one of the proudest moments in our history. Through initiatives like the Piano Camp, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the arts and enabling a new generation of musicians to transform their passion into reality, sharing the message of music with the world.' The Piano Camp programme forms part of the Dubai Cultural Grant, an initiative under the emirate's Quality of Life Strategy. It seeks to develop the cultural and creative industries in the emirate through a dedicated fund of AED 180 million over 10 years, offering targeted grants to support and empower Emirati and UAE-based talent artists.
