The laboratories are part of a larger initiative to ensure food safety and protect the health of citizens, particularly devotees visiting Tirumala. The state govt has invested Rs 86 crore in the five laboratories, which will be equipped with advanced equipment to test food samples.
The laboratory in Tirumala is being set up in a 12,000 square foot building provided by local authorities near the flour mill. Equipment worth approximately Rs 19 crore is being installed to conduct food sample tests.
The laboratory will test samples of all types of food items and operate 24/7 with necessary staff. Until now, food samples were sent to neighboring states for quality testing, but with the new laboratory, samples will be tested locally.
Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said that the govt is prioritizing the healthy lifestyle of its citizens and that the laboratories will play a crucial role in ensuring food safety.
The laboratories will help to prevent incidents of food adulteration, which had affected the sentiments of devotees in the past. The government has taken a decision to set up a special state-level laboratory in Tirumala to ensure the health of devotees.
The Visakhapatnam laboratory will also be ready for operation by the end of next month, with basic equipment already in place and the final stages of bringing in all necessary equipment underway. The state government is also upgrading the Ongole and Eluru public health laboratories with Rs 13 crore and advanced equipment. A purchase order for the equipment has also been issued, and the govt has sanctioned Rs 6.5 crore for each lab.
Meanwhile, state-level food laboratories are coming up in Guntur, Tirupati, and Kurnool. There is already a regional food laboratory in Kurnool, which will be upgraded to state level, and a new building will be constructed.

BMHRC's med centre to beta test India's CBRN prep against ‘radioactive threats'
Bhopal: In a move to bolster India's disaster preparedness, such as handling a radiation leak or an industrial accident, Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) is set to host one of the country's only two tertiary-level CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Medical Management Centres. It'll be integrated with a state-of-the-art Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) facility. The project has progressed with high-level discussions taking place this week regarding construction plans. According to BMHRC director (in charge) Dr Manisha Shrivastava, "This facility is unique in itself—a dedicated medical management centre for disaster response, specifically Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) emergencies, integrated with a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Centre at BMHRC. In such emergencies, BMT becomes a critical requirement." The centre will include a critical operation theatre and a 50-bed facility. BMHRC doctors have already undergone specialized training in Gujarat, with two more heading to Brazil for advanced learning. NDRF teams have visited BMHRC for training and preparedness exercises. A research component is also embedded, with BMHRC collaborating with other agencies to advance knowledge in CBRN medical response. Facility entry and exit will be strictly controlled under CBRN defense management protocols. Only Chennai and Bhopal will host such specialized centres—both are currently under development. The estimated cost is Rs 112 crore and expected to take two years to complete. To begin with, the first two centers are coming up in Chennai and Bhopal. Delhi Techie Earning Rs 30 Lakh A Year Plans To Quit Toxic Job Without Backup: "Extreme Pressure"
A backend developer in Delhi NCR shared his struggles with mental health on Reddit, revealing the toll his high-paying job has taken on his well-being. Despite earning nearly Rs 30 lakh per year and having over a year of experience, he struggles with anxiety, recurring headaches, frequent breakdowns, and burnout. He described the reality of his job as unfulfilling, with his paycheck overshadowed by persistent exhaustion and physical symptoms. The techie attributed his struggles to the intense work environment, citing extreme work pressure, long hours on major festivals, limited sick leave options, and a toxic atmosphere that requires five days of in-office work per week. "Since the day I started, I've been struggling with severe anxiety. A year in, it has worsened — I now face frequent headaches, mental breakdowns, and constant burnout at a young age. The work pressure is extreme, we often need to work long hours on major indian festivals due to business needs. Sick leave usually just means 'work from home while sick.' No hybrid policy — it's 5 days a week in a highly toxic environment. All of this is taking a serious toll on my mental health. This post is not about salary discussion, it's about how I want my present and future to turn out to be," the post read. See the post here: My high tech job is causing problems that I can't bear anymore by u/VDtheking in developersIndia The techie said that he is considering resignation, but is hesitant because of the uncertainty of what's next. Leaving a secure, high-paying job without a plan feels daunting, even with minimal financial obligations. "I sometimes feel like just quitting without another offer lined up. But going from a stable, high salary to zero income is daunting, even though I have no major financial responsibilities right now. The fear of not finding another role — especially when I see people with more experience struggling — makes me hesitate," he added. His story has sparked a discussion on the human cost of high-pressure tech jobs. One user wrote, "Yes, this is not a good time to quit for the market. But it is possible for the OP to push through simply by not taking as much stress, giving priority to his health and maintaining work life balance and doing the bare minimum required to hold the job, atleast until the market gets better. Meanwhile, OP can also continue to apply on the side. Better to have good health and slightly unsecure job than no health and subsequently no job." Another commented, "Your health is more important than any salary. A break now may save you in the long run." A third said, "Don't quit without a plan. Try switching internally or wait till you land another role."
