5 Dubai changes in August you need to know: Mallathon, school restart, Summer Surprises ends
Major Dubai changes are announced all the time, often a long time in advance, which is why we've rounded up the biggest changes to note that will arrive in August.
In August, two big sporting events are guaranteed to get you moving, before the little ones will get back to school.
Dubai Summer Surprises ends
The annual programme of events, sales and concerts in the emirate officially ends on the final day of August.
Sales of up to 90 percent off at some of Dubai's biggest and most popular malls are likely to be available throughout the final month of the event.
There will be two distinct sales events during the final month of the Dubai Summer Surprises, allowing you plenty of chances to grab a bargain.
The Great Dubai Summer Sale will run until Sunday August 10, while the Back to School sale will be between Monday August 11 and Sunday August 31.
During August, there will also be a 10 Dirham Dish event from Friday August 1 until Sunday August 31, as part of Dubai Summer Surprises.
The Dubai Mallathon begins

A huge new fitness initiative, which will see Dubai's biggest malls be converted into massive running tracks, gets underway on Friday August 1.
The Dubai Mallathon will run, quite literally, until Sunday August 31, during the mornings at seven of the city's most popular malls.
Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, Deira City Centre, Springs Souk, City Centre Mirdif and Dubai Marina Mall will all host health and fitness tracks between 7am and 10am throughout the month.
The idea is to convert familiar indoor spaces into places that inspire movement and a more active community in Dubai.

Schools across Dubai will return from their summer break at the end of August.
The academic calendar for private schools in Dubai confirms that schools starting in September 2025 will officially get back in the classroom from Monday August 25.
While for private schools that start their academic calendar in April, classes will also return from the summer break on Monday August 25.

Dubai Sports World is back for its 15th edition.
Spread across an enormous complex, it will be your home for all things sport – including football pitches for five- and seven-a-side games, tennis courts, badminton courts, cricket nets, padel courts and much, much more.
The region's largest indoor sports venue — covering an expansive 300,000 square-foot area, including 40 courts and pitches — will officially reopen on Sunday August 3.
A venue for anyone keen on a workout, there's a huge gym and fitness studio featuring daily classes and it will remain up and running until Tuesday September 2.
The petrol price will change

As it does monthly in the UAE, the petrol price is set to change on the first day of August.
Following a month when prices increased, we're hopeful to see a drop in the per litre costs next month.
An announcement of the new rates will come on Thursday July 31, and the new petrol and diesel costs will come into place on Friday August 1.

Dubai weekend: What to do in Dubai in 48 hours
You've landed in Dubai. The clock is ticking and you have 48 hours to discover how incredible this city is. Spoiler alert: you can't do everything (that's why you need to plan a return trip), however, you can pack a hefty amount into 48 hours. Don't know where to start? Don't worry, we're here to help – we've mapped out your dream Dubai weekend (or couple of weekdays), giving you a flavour of everything the city has to offer. It's going to be jam-packed, filled with the best things to do in Dubai. Let's go. Day 1: Morning Experience UAE culture Credit:Canva First stop – breakfast. Getting straight into the culture, head for a traditional Emirati breakfast at the Arabian Tea House in Bur Dubai and enjoy one of their breakfast trays, filled with dates, molasses, Balaleet, watermelon jam and baked beans. Then it's time to walk off that breakfast around Old Dubai. Take in the sights on either side of Dubai Creek before it gets too hot and you can even use an abra – a traditional boat – to ferry you over for just Dhs1. Enjoy a stroll through the Gold Souk to hunt out a bargain (haggling is expected!), or the traditional boutiques around Al Seef to get a feel of Dubai in years gone by. At The Top you'll find a viewing deck on floor 125. Want to go even higher? There are other packages available that will whistle you all the way up to level 148, just be sure to book ahead. When you get hungry, head to Time Out Market and grab something from the huge selection of food vendors – keep an eye out for Pitfire Pizza, Pickl and Mattar. Your last destination of the day is Cé La Vi for a few drinks overlooking Downtown Dubai. You'll be served some incredible views of glittering Burj Khalifa, which looks even more impressive from this 54th-floor restaurant. Day 2, Morning Yoga and breakfast at Aura Skypool Is there a better way to start the day than cooling off at one of the hottest spots in town? Aura Skypool is the world's highest infinity pool, with 360-degree vistas and incredible views over Atlantis The Palm. Spend the morning tucking into breakfast – with dishes like an Asian brunch bowl or miso eggs benedict – and taking a dip. The pool is an ideal spot to pose for pics or, if you're the active type, you can do a yoga class three mornings a week for the ultimate flex (literally). Prices vary. Day 2: Afternoon Take on Atlantis Aquaventure While the summer temperatures are in full force, a trip to the waterpark is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon. Plus, once you're all dried off, you can take a wander through the iconic Atlantis The Palm hotel or even take a visit to the Lost Chambers Aquarium, where you'll meet over 65,000 marine animals. If you want a spectacular view of the 'seven-star' hotel, book a terrace table at KIRA inside the new Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab hotel. Complete with a Mediterranean-inspired menu and gorgeous views, this is a perfect choice for your final dinner. As the evening continues, head to SUSHISAMBA for a show-stopping after-dark drink. With sprawling views over Palm Jumeirah, coupled with an iconic menu of 'Samba Serves' mixed drinks, it's definitely worth sipping one last digestif here. If you want to keep the party going, end your trip on a high at FIVE Palm Jumeirah hotel. Packed with entertainment, the venue never sleeps. Don't miss out on sipping something refreshing on the Maiden Shanghai terrace, or a dance at Bling nightclub – where you can drive your supercar onto the dancefloor – for one last 48-hour fling.
