The Tampa Bay Buccaneers know they have one of the most dominant offenses in the game today. With Baker Mayfield at quarterback, and a collection of top wideouts, the Bucs believe they have all they need to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

There's just one problem.
One of those top wideouts isn't healthy. And there's a chance he may not be going into the 2025 season.
Chris Godwin, the Pro Bowl receiver who has formed a dynamic duo with Mike Evans, is still recovering from his ankle injury that he suffered midway through the 2024 season.
The fact that the team drafted Ohio State star Emeka Egbuka in the first round of the 2025 draft, according to former Buccaneer champion and ESPN analyst Booger McFarland, was a sign that Godwin may need even more time than anticipated.
"Based on what we saw from Chris Godwin at the end of last season, I think the Bucs are telling us they don't think he's going to be ready and it's going to be a while," McFarland said. "So I fully expect Chris Godwin not to be ready to start the season.

"And to be honest, I'm not really sure anyone in that building knows what to expect based on the injury history of what he's had the last couple years."
A healthy Godwin in Tampa Bay's offense can help them win a Super Bowl. But the Bucs wouldn't have drafted Egbuka if they were confident they could get Godwin back to 100%.
Anyway you slice it, it doesn't look good for Tampa's star wideout.

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield seen as deserving of something ahead of 2025

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield seen as deserving of something ahead of 2025 Baker Mayfield's career was sent out to sea after the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson in 2021. They went all in on the former Texans quarterback and gave up on their former number one overall pick who had led them to their only playoff victory in the last 30 years. From there Mayfield would hop around the league before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and showing that in the right scenario he had a lot left in the tank. The former Heisman Trophy winner has a record of 19-15 with the Bucs and has passed for 8,544 yards and 69 touchdowns in two seasons with them. Because of that record and production, NFL Media's Tom Blair listed him among the NFL's best values in terms of contracts. Blair writes, ". . .he undoubtedly should make more than $33.33 million per year, which puts him below Sam Darnold, Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins on the contracts table. And, yes, that APY is roughly $20 million per year less than what Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and Brock Purdy are receiving. In 2024, Mayfield was one of three QBs (joining Goff and Joe Burrow) to throw for 4,500-plus yards, while his 41 TD passes tied him for second-most in the NFL (with Jackson, behind Burrow's 43). . .Mayfield's current pact stands out as a jaw-dropping discount for the Bucs." Mayfield is entering the second year of a three-year, $100 million contract that he signed ahead of the 2024 season. Whenever he gets a likely extension with the Bucs, the value may be gone, but the price on a franchise quarterback is hard to have an exact number on it. He has shown he can be the guy for the Bucs, and with the team already building for the future with picks like Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka at wide receiver, they have a long-term plan for him.

Ryan Clark says Aaron Rodgers signing is 'worst case scenario' for Steelers

Ryan Clark says Aaron Rodgers signing is 'worst case scenario' for Steelers Show Caption Hide Caption Aaron Rodgers plans to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign a 1-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of next week's minicamp. Sports Pulse Ryan Clark has made it clear that he is no fan of Aaron Rodgers. In December, the former Pittsburgh Steelers safety called the team's new quarterback a "fraud" for Rodgers' criticism about the way the NFL is covered now. In April, Clark said the free agent situation with Rodgers made him sick, adding the entire situation was mishandled. Now Rodgers has agreed to a contract with the Steelers, meaning he'll suit up for Clark's former team this season. As expected, the safety-turned-analyst has some thoughts on the 41-year-old's new NFL venture. "This is the worst-case scenario for Pittsburgh Steelers fans," Clark said in an appearance on "SportsCenter" following the news. "It continues to keep you mired in mediocrity. Will this team be better? Have they gotten better in the quarterback room? Absolutely. Will they contend for that championship that Pittsburgh Steelers' people, fans, and the organization thinks is the standard? No, they won't." While Clark did acknowledge that Rodgers will eventually be in the Hall of Fame one day, he pointed out that it's too little, too late for a guy that is potentially past his prime. "Five years from when both of these men retire, one of them will give the most motivational Hall of Fame speech we've ever heard," Clark said. "Another will probably give the most interesting – and it won't mean anything." He went on to add that they'll fight for a spot in the wild card round and then probably be going home during that week, all to look for a franchise quarterback again next offseason. After being given the night to let the news settle in, Clark was back at it when he appeared on ESPN's "Get Up" Friday morning. "I'm not here to bash Aaron Rodgers," Clark said. "I believe that Aaron Rodgers is an upgrade to Mason Rudolph. I even believe that Aaron Rodgers is a slight upgrade to what Russell Wilson was last year. Aaron Rodgers is no longer elite. Aaron Rodgers doesn't walk into the building with the cache that says to the rest of the organization, 'this is our guy that's gonna allow us to win a championship.'" Clark continued, saying this is what the Steelers had to do to compete this season, but that won't be enough to compete with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills or Baltimore Ravens. "You can get Aaron Rodgers so you can not stink," Clark said. "That's it. Other than that, all of us are gonna watch the divisional round, the championship round and the Super Bowl together." The NFL's official calendar for the next year has been released, and the league unveiled about two dozen key dates starting in July and extending until next summer. Baltimore now knows when they'll need to trim the roster down to 53 players, and a hint at the looming trade deadline. With the next year's schedule now completed, here are the key dates to watch. July 15 -- Franchise tag The Ravens don't have any players on the tag. Still, for players like Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith, July 15 is the deadline for any club that designated a Franchise Player to sign such a player to a multiyear contract or extension. The Chiefs placed their non-exclusive franchise tag on Smith on Feb. 28. The Pro Bowl offensive lineman will earn $23.4 million on the tag unless a new deal is agreed to before the July 15 deadline. Smith, 26, has started 77 games, including postseason, since being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After this date, the player may sign only a one-year contract with his prior club for the 2025 season, and no long-term extension can happen until after the final regular season game. Mid July The Ravens' rookies and select veterans will report to the Under Armour Performance Center for training camp. July 31 -Hall of Fame Game, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions, Canton, Ohio. Jim Harbaugh's revamped Chargers will face Dan Campbell's new-look Detroit Lions in Canton, Ohio. Aug 26: Rosters must be cut down to 53 players After several seasons with multiple cutdown days, the NFL returned to one deadline for teams to trim their rosters. The deadline was adjusted before the 2020 COVID-19-impacted seasons: Roster reduction from 90 to 85 Roster reduction from 85 to 80 Final roster reduction from 80 to 53 Teams can release players at their discretion, but not having three different cutdown dates no longer puts pressure on them during the summer. Aug 31- Final day of preseason training camp for all clubs For the Ravens and every other NFL team, September 1 is a holiday, and the official start of the 2025 regular season. September 1-6 -- Injury reports The first week of September means teams around the league will start officially releasing injury reports. November 4- NFL Trade Deadline The week after Halloween will be exciting this year as teams anticipate an early trade deadline. January 5 - Fifth-year options for players selected in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft This is the first day that Eric DeCosta can offer Zay Flowers long-term extensions. Jan 10-12 Wild Card Weekend powered by Verizon Jan 17-18 Divisional Playoffs presented by Intuit TurboTax Jan 25, AFC and NFC Championship Games presented by Intuit TurboTax. February 8 Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium (Santa Clara, California) February 17 Franchise tag Depending on the season, they have Odafe Oweh, Travis Jones, or others, who could be a candidate for the franchise tag.
