Crude palm oil and fighting cocks worth RM3.9 million seized

Kuala Lumpur: The Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK) Division of the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) seized various illegal items worth RM3.9 million in two integrated operations in Lahad Datu and Tawau, Sabah, on Thursday and Friday. JKDNKA Director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said in the first operation in Lahad Datu at 7pm, carried out with enforcement officers from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), they raided a store at a palm oil plantation and arrested four men aged between 20 and 31. 'We seized a lorry head with a tanker containing 30,000 litres of crude palm oil, a van, three motorised oil pumps with hoses and tanks, as well as drums filled with crude palm oil. 'The total amount of crude palm oil seized is estimated to weigh 30,148 tonnes, with a market value of RM152,090, and the overall value of the seizure in this operation is estimated at RM645,890,' he said, in a statement, Monday. Azmi said the case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005, adding that police also issued five summonses (POL 257) for vehicle-related offences such as expired road tax, no insurance coverage and driving without a licence. Meanwhile, in the second operation in Tawau at 2.30pm on Friday, police seized 622 fighting cocks and arrested three men, including two foreign men from Indonesia and the Philippines, all aged around their 50s. 'At the first location in Kampung Apas Parit, two Indonesian men and two Filipino men were arrested, and police seized 470 fighting cocks believed to be from the Philippines, 40 rooster spur knives, 180 units of vitamins and 500 chicken cages. 'At the second location in Kampung Membalua Off Jalan Apas, a 57-year-old man was detained along with 152 fighting cocks, with the total estimated value of the seizures at both locations being RM3,287,708,' he said. Fuller probe pledge: Family's lawyers urge those with info to come forward

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun has assured the public that police will conduct a comprehensive investigation into claims circulating online prior to a tragic death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir. This comes after viral posts on social media suggested that she was put inside a washing machine at her school before being placed on the drain at the hostel block. Advertisement In TikTok, a woman under a name of SHA_Abrienda claimed that the body of Zara was put inside a washing machine before being placed near the drain of SMK Agama Tun Mustapha where she was found unconscious at 3am. The woman speaking live also claimed that Zara, a school prefect, was beaten by the group of senior who were unhappy that she wrote their names for not performing prayers. Jauteh said police are aware of such speculations and are treating the matter seriously. 'We will first verify what is being said by the netizens. Let the police conduct a thorough investigation on this,' he told Daily Express when contacted, Wednesday. The case has sparked widespread concern online, with many calling for a transparent and swift investigation. Police have urged the public not to speculate and to allow the investigation to proceed without interference. Zara is believed to have been bullied. She died the following day in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (July 17). Meanwhile, lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, who represent Zara Qairina Mahathir's family, called on those with solid information to come forward and assist the police investigation into her death, rather than spread speculation in social media. 'Allow police to investigate. Have faith in them, although they made mistakes at the early stage for not conducting the post-mortem and taking the clothing worn by Zara when she was found unconscious,' they said. About the new claims, the lawyers said they did not know where the person/s got the information. They said it was definitely not from Zara's mother. The legal team also raised legal concerns over the distribution of students' photos as well as sharing of personal information and negative statements about them. They said such actions may constitute criminal offences under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, and Sections 211 and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. 'The release of student name lists containing personal data was also deemed a breach of Section 130 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. We urge that dissemination of such content be stopped immediately. Stop sharing images, unverified info in Zara Qairina case: AGC

According to the AGC, the circulation of unverified information and images related to the student, which are connected to the ongoing investigation by the authorities, could lead to public confusion. Advertisement It also urged the public to immediately cease such irresponsible actions. 'The dissemination of such content could potentially disrupt the smooth and effective progress of the investigation by the relevant authorities,' it said in a statement. The AGC also noted that it received the full preliminary investigation report on the case at its Sabah branch on Aug 3, and at its headquarters in Putrajaya on Aug 4. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17.
