The Indian men's cricket team has won seven ICC titles, including two World Cups in each format, and the women's team is an Asian Games gold medallist and a record champion in the Asia Cup. With the sport returning to the Olympics after 128 years, India will look to complete a double in cricket.

Despite winning three out of five gold medals at the 2023 World Championships and five gold medals at the 2022 Asian Games, the absence of compound archery always stung India. That will change in the United States in 2028.
Meanwhile, teen sensation Anahat Singh has already become India's golden girl in Indian squash, having won two gold medals at the Asian Championships at just 17, and will look to make history in Los Angeles.

'The truth is England panicked": English media slams cricket team for losing Oval Test, letting go of 'biggest win' of Bazball era

The English media did not held back after the England cricket team 'panicked' under pressure against India on Day 5 of Oval Test, losing the match by just six runs. As England were forced to settle for a series draw, the media slammed the team. read more English media praised the thrilling cricket between India and England but rued the fact that the hosts could not win the series. Images: Reuters The English media weren't very kind to the England cricket team in particular as India secured a thrilling 2-2 series draw on Monday with a sensational session of play on the last day of the five-match Test series. Needing just 35 runs to win the fifth Test at the Oval, England lost their remaining four wickets in under an hour to finish on a disappointing 367, chasing 374. England's downfall was orchestrated by an inspired Mohammed Siraj, who spat fire with his outswinging deliveries and was ably supported by Parsidh Krishna under overcast conditions in London. Sira dismissed STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton and Gus Atkinson on Day 5 of the fifth Test, with Atkinson being the last to fall in the match, while Krishna cleaned up Josh Tongue in the final session of play. Vaughan says England panicked on Day 5 vs India It was a miraculous turnaround from India in a match where England looked the favourites despite being handed a 374-run chase, as they nicely motored to 332/4 with Joe Root batting on 105. Even with only 35 needed on Day 5 and Indian pacers having worked overtime, the hosts were the favourites, but the lower-order crumbled under the pressure, former England captain Michael Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph. 'Let's be honest, England should have won,' Vaughan's column was headlined. The former batter acknowledged England losing big names for the Oval Test as Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer sat out, but he conceded that the hosts eventually lost due to their failure to handle the pressure on Day 5. 'But the truth is England panicked,' Vaughan wrote on England's batting. 'The closer they got, within 70, they tried to be more high-risk. The approach was wrong on the final morning. It was too risky.' 'If India lost in that fashion, we would have said they yipped up. If South Africa lost like that, we would say they choked. It was that bad a miss. The defeat will really hurt England. When you know you should win a game, it is so painful,' he added. England accused of squandering biggest win of Bazball era Also, in The Telegraph, British cricket journalist Nick Hoult wrote about how 'England let biggest win of Bazball era slip after all-time epic.' It was a sentiment shared by other English media outlets as well, who pointed out that Brendon McCullum's team blew the chance to secure their biggest win after losing the plot in the final session of the Test series. Lawrence Booth, writing in The Mail, penned a column headlined: 'Brendon McCullum's era is still lacking a prize scalp as England come up short again.' 'Thanks to the Manchester rain in 2023, and India's fightback here, their two home series against Australia and India under Brendon McCullum have finished all square. 'Their record under Stokes and McCullum remains strong, but Bazball's critics — mainly in Australia and India, though plenty in England — will not take them seriously until they beat one of the other members of the so-called Big Three,' Booth wrote. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD BBC's chief cricket reporter, Stephan Shemilt, in his piece from the Oval, termed England's defeat at the ground as a 'missed opportunity.' 'It was highly creditable for England to get so close to chasing down 374, what would have been their second highest of all time. It was also a missed opportunity for a statement series win,' he wrote.

Gautam Gambhir's Rare Tears of Joy After India's Epic Win At The Oval - Watch the Emotional Dressing Room Video

IND vs ENG: In a breathtaking finish at The Oval, India pulled off a remarkable 6-run victory against England to level the five-match Test series 2-2. With England needing just 35 runs and India hunting for four wickets at the start of Day 5, the contest seemed to be in the hosts' favour. But Mohammed Siraj's fiery spell, including the match-winning wicket of Gus Atkinson, turned the tide and delivered one of India's most memorable overseas wins. Siraj Breathes Fire, Seals the Game with a Yorker The drama reached its peak in the final moments when England were down to their last pair. Chris Woakes, battling a broken shoulder, stood helplessly at the non-striker's end as Gus Atkinson attempted to finish the chase. Mohammed Siraj, full of intensity and energy, sent down a scorching yorker that crashed into Atkinson's off stump, sealing victory for India and sending the team into euphoric celebration. Siraj, having taken a five-wicket haul, ran in animated fashion before unleashing his trademark 'Siu' celebration. He was quickly surrounded by his ecstatic teammates, the Oval echoing with Indian jubilation. Gambhir's Rare Display of Emotions Steals the Show Among the wild celebrations, one moment stood out India head coach Gautam Gambhir's rare outburst of emotion. Known for his serious, no-nonsense demeanour, Gambhir let his guard down in the dressing room. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a behind-the-scenes video capturing the emotional aftermath. Gambhir jumped into bowling coach Morne Morkel's arms like a child, shouting with unrestrained joy. The footage even showed him teary-eyed, overwhelmed by the moment's intensity — a rare sight from a man who is typically all business. Raw Emotions straight after #TeamIndia's special win at the Kennington Oval #ENGvIND — BCCI (@BCCI) August 4, 2025 The closing stages of the match were laden with tension. Chris Woakes, injured but determined, stood at the non-striker's end while Gus Atkinson took charge of the chase. With only seven runs needed and one wicket in hand, England were nearly there. Gambhir could be seen peeking out of the dressing room window, sending last-minute instructions. Then came Siraj's thunderbolt — a yorker too good for Atkinson — and it was all over. Gambhir's Message: "We'll NEVER Surrender" Following the dramatic win, Gautam Gambhir took to social media platform X to share a heartfelt message. 'We'll win some, we'll lose some.... but we'll NEVER surrender! Well done boys!' he wrote, encapsulating the spirit and resilience shown by the Indian team. The win was particularly meaningful for Gambhir, who has faced criticism during his early tenure as head coach, especially after a tough home series against New Zealand last October. This victory not only silences the doubters but also injects new momentum into India's red-ball campaign. With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy now retained, India will look to build on this success in their next Test assignment a two-match home series against the West Indies. For Gambhir and his team, the thrilling triumph at The Oval could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Indian Test cricket.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed support for referee Katia Itzel Garcia and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) after the official revealed she was subjected to online abuse following a Leagues Cup match. Garcia, who has officiated in other men's competitions including Liga MX, the Gold Cup and the Olympic Games, reported receiving death threats after refereeing the Leagues Cup clash between FC Cincinnati and Monterrey on Thursday. Her decision to award a goal to the MLS side that appeared to be offside fuelled outrage among Monterrey fans after Cincinnati went on to win 3-2.
