Mother says she panicked when asked to consent to post-mortem on Zara

By: Malay Mail Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, Noraidah Lamat, has reportedly said that she was in shock and panic when asked to consent to a post-mortem immediately after her daughter's death. According to a report on New Straits Times , the 45-year-old said there had been no clear explanation of the procedure at the time. 'There was no clear explanation, and we are not familiar with this kind of case. We panicked, and no advice was given about the post-mortem process,' she reportedly wrote in a Facebook comment. 'If we had known, we would not have signed the form refusing the post-mortem,' she reportedly added. Her lawyer, Hamid Ismail, reportedly confirmed that the Facebook account under the handle 'Noie AiDa' belongs to her. Yesterday, Bukit Aman said police had failed to comply with procedure by not initiating a post-mortem, though Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar noted that Noraidah had signed a hospital-issued waiver. Zara died on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here. 20,000 attend Kota Belud rally demanding justice for Zara Qairina
KOTA BELUD: An estimated 20,000 people dressed in black flooded the field in Kota Belud town to show solidarity and demand justice for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir earlier today. The rally, held from 7pm to 9.30pm, sought to express solidarity as participants carried banners and placards, chanting "Justice For Zara. Observations found that police were also present at the location to maintain peace. The turnout, which included residents from the Kota Marudu and Kudat districts, continued to grow throughout the event, attracting people of all ages. The organising chairman Nurul Fadzilah Noordin said the gathering demonstrated extraordinary unity and support, as people from different backgrounds came together. "The presence at this solidarity gathering transcends political and social boundaries, focusing on a humanitarian issue. "We stand together demanding justice for Zara Qairina," she said in her speech. In addition to a whiteboard, a Perodua Myvi car was also used to collect signatures along with the slogan "Justice4Zara" written by participants. Bottled water was provided free to attendees. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital on 17. She was found unconscious at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar at 4am the previous day.

The event, which ran from 7pm to 9.30pm, saw participants chanting 'Justice For Zara' while holding placards and banners. Police officers were present to maintain order as more people arrived from districts including Kota Marudu and Kudat, representing all ages. Organising chairperson Nurul Fadzilah Noordin said the gathering reflected unity across religious, ethnic and district lines in support of a humanitarian cause. Business couple pleads not guilty to RM3.6 million false claim charges

KOTA KINABALU: A husband-and-wife business duo have claimed trial to charges of abetting a company director in submitting false claims amounting to more than RM3.6 million to the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR). Anita Mohamed, 54, and Ang Ka Fat @ Kenny, 57, pleaded not guilty to their respective charges when brought before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga on Thursday. Both face two separate charges each, as well as one joint charge, over the alleged offences. The charges were framed under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, read together with Section 18 of the same Act, and punishable under Section 24(2). Upon conviction, the provision carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence and a fine of at least five times the value of the false particulars, or RM10,000, whichever is higher. The documents were allegedly submitted to an administrative assistant at the DIDR office between 2022 and 2023.
