U.S. Department of Labor pauses operations at Job Corps centers
The U.S. Department of Labor announced it will begin a phased pause in operations at Job Corps centers nationwide, including Georgia.

'It's sad that they're closing all the Job Corps down,' Job Corps student Brian Wisemon told Channel 2's Audrey Washington.
Wisemon learned of the sudden closures just a few days ago.
'How can y'all promise something and then take it away?' asked Wisemon.
Job Corps is a residential career training and education program.
Wisemon heads the student government association at a Job Corps center.
He said he believes the pause will impact thousands of at-risk students.
'We're looking at youth that are caring and hoping for a second chance at life,' Wisemon explained.

The Labor Department said in a statement it decided to pause Job Corps operations, mostly for financial reasons:
'The Job Corps program has been in a financial crisis for years, creating constant uncertainty for participants and administrators. The gap between funding and expenses has been publicly known, with operating costs steadily rising and the program's budget remaining flat over several fiscal years.'
On Monday, Washington spoke with former Job Corps contractor Kip Carr.
'It directly affects the working-class people,' said Carr.
'It was helping a lot of people get a job. You were doing work-based learning,' Wisemon added.

On Monday, NewsDrone 2 flew over an empty lot in South Fulton along Roosevelt Highway and Washington Road.
Signs posted on the fence around the lot stated that the land would be the future site of a new Job Corps center.
Carr said that the plan now seems unlikely.
'There are students who are days away from getting the GEDs. I hope there are other organizations that they can transition to,' Carr said.
The U.S Department of Labor also cited the Job Corps' effectiveness and safety as reasons for the pause.
There are more than 100 federally funded Job Corps centers in the United States.

Hall Co. escaped inmate steals motorcycle, leads deputies on multi-state chase, officials say
An inmate on work release is back in custody after deputies said he led them on a multi-state chase. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On Monday, Stephens County deputies tried to stop a black motorcycle. The sheriff's office said they were notified that the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Daniel Jesse Bell of Braselton, was an escaped inmate from Hall County. The SCSO said Bell cut off his ankle monitor before leaving the area earlier Monday afternoon and the motorcycle was also possibly stolen from Hall County. Deputies said they spotted the motorcycle traveling on Highway 123. When they tried to stop Bell, he sped away. Stephens County deputies chased Bell into South Carolina, where Oconee County, S.C. deputies took over. Oconee deputies then took Bell into custody. Due to his burn injuries, Bell was taken to a burn center for treatment, where he remains in custody. Former GA middle school employee charged with sexual exploitation of children
Deputies have charged a former Georgia middle school employee with possessing child sexual abuse material. A K-9 team that specializes in finding electronic devices that store data assisted with the arrest. The Haralson County Sheriff's Office arrested Bradley Kingsley on Tuesday and charged him with felony sexual exploitation of children. 'One of my biggest priorities when I took office was to protect kids,' Sheriff Stacy Williams said. 'I tell people all the time how difficult these cases are to work, for everyone involved.' The GBI's Internet Crimes Against Children division said there were several videos of children involved in sexual acts uploaded to a Verizon account. Investigators tracked the IP address back to a house where they say Kingsley lived and got a warrant.
