Indian Navy signs pact with BEL to boost maritime domain awareness and coastal security
The contract was signed in the presence of Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, and Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL.
The Indian Navy announced that the project will bring in an integrated approach to data collation, analysis and information sharing amongst the various maritime stakeholders.
The project entails upgrading the existing National Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (NC3I) Network to the NMDA Network, along with the incorporation of AI-enabled software, it said.
As part of the project, the existing Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) at Gurugram, which is the nodal centre of the NC3I Network, will also be upgraded into a Multi-Agency NMDA Centre, hosting representatives from various national agencies. The project will be executed on a 'Turnkey Basis' and will be administered by the Indian Navy, it added.

Philippines President Marcos Signals 'New Phase' in India Ties, Open to More BrahMos Purchases
Last Updated: Marcos confirmed that Philippines is in the process of procuring additional BrahMos missiles, citing the recent tensions with China at the disputed South China Sea. Philippines' President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr, who is on a five-day state visit to India, said his first trip to New Delhi was 'very productive" and expressed willingness to purchase more BrahMos missiles and other military equipment from India amid tensions with China. In an interview with Firstpost Managing Editor Palki Sharma, Marcos said the relationship with India is entering 'a new phase" as part of efforts to build a 'strategic partnership" and stressed that Manila must upgrade its equipment to be interoperable with partners. He also confirmed that Philippines is in the process of procuring additional BrahMos missiles, stressing that 'all options are on the table" when it comes to modernising Philippines' armed forces. His government has also contacted Indian counterparts to understand how the system was deployed effectively in recent conflicts. Marcos Praises India For Op Sindoor Marcos also commended India's role in Operation Sindoor, highlighting it as proof of the value of joint exercises and the importance of a coalition of like-minded nations. He said that while Philippines was 'not preparing for war", is strengthening military preparedness in response to regional challenges, most notably with China's expansionist claims in the South China Sea. He also welcomed India's growing role in the Indo-Pacific and praised the performance of Indian military equipment. Philippines recently conducted a joint naval sail and military drills with the Indian Navy in the disputed South China Sea for the first time. Indian Navy ships that took part included guided missile destroyer INS Delhi, tanker INS Shakti and corvette INS Kiltan. India and the Philippines also decided to elevate their ties to a Strategic Partnership with and both sides agreed for the expeditious conclusion of the negotiations of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between India and the Philippines for further promotion of mutual trade. Marcos On China Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner on Monday said that the joint naval sail and exercises had been successful and raised hopes of Filipino forces engaging with India's military in more joint manoeuvres in the future. 'We are not against anyone. We are for defending our territory," Marcos told Firstpost, adding that any unilateral attempt to alter boundaries must be opposed. He also warned of the risks of escalation due to 'some guy pressing the wrong button," and underlined the need for open communication lines. While holding talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Marcos said the issue of China came up, but the conversation was 'tangential", adding that Manila was 'not a puppet state" and that its alliances were driven by its own strategic needs. 'Why should we turn down partners who also face the Chinese threat?" he asked, adding that the Philippines 'will not cede one square inch of territory" and 'will not give up on our sovereignty." China claims nearly the entire South China Sea, overlapping with maritime zones of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Despite an international tribunal saying that China's sweeping claims have no basis under international law, Beijing continues to enforce its claims. Microsoft's AI Agent ‘Project Ire' Can Independently Detect and Block Malware with High Accuracy
In a significant leap toward AI-driven cybersecurity, Microsoft has introduced Project Ire, a powerful artificial intelligence agent capable of independently detecting and blocking malware. Designed to function with minimal human oversight, the tool leverages advanced reverse engineering techniques to inspect software, assess its intent, and determine its threat level—all without relying on prior knowledge of the codebase. The innovation comes at a time when security teams are grappling with alert fatigue and the overwhelming volume of threats. 'This kind of work has traditionally been done manually by expert analysts, which can be slow and exhausting,' Microsoft stated in its official blog post. By removing much of the manual load, Project Ire promises both speed and scalability in enterprise threat detection. Unlike conventional AI security tools that often struggle with ambiguity in malware traits, Project Ire approaches the challenge with a unique methodology. Microsoft has equipped the agent with the ability to build a detailed 'chain of evidence'—a step-by-step record of its decision-making process. This audit trail allows cybersecurity professionals to verify conclusions, enhancing both transparency and trust in automated systems. The agent starts by identifying the file's type and structure, followed by reconstructing its control flow using decompiling tools like Ghidra and symbolic execution frameworks such as angr. It integrates various analytical tools via API to summarize the function of each code block, gradually building its chain of logic that supports the final verdict. In terms of performance, the results are compelling. During internal testing, Project Ire was tasked with analyzing a set of Windows drivers containing both safe and malicious files. The AI accurately classified 90% of them, with a precision score of 0.98 and a recall of 0.83. Only 2% of safe files were mistakenly flagged—a relatively low false positive rate in the cybersecurity domain. Microsoft then challenged the AI with a tougher dataset of nearly 4,000 complex and previously unreviewed software files, typically reserved for manual inspection. Even in this scenario, Project Ire demonstrated remarkable efficiency, maintaining a precision score of 0.89 and limiting false positives to just 4%. A standout achievement occurred when Project Ire became the first reverse engineer—human or AI—within Microsoft to compile sufficient evidence to warrant the autonomous blocking of an advanced persistent threat (APT) malware sample. That malware has since been neutralized by Microsoft Defender. The project is a collaborative effort involving Microsoft Research, Microsoft Defender Research, and Microsoft Discovery & Quantum. As cyber threats become more sophisticated and persistent, tools like Project Ire are expected to become essential components of modern digital defense frameworks, offering faster, more consistent, and less labor-intensive threat mitigation. With Project Ire, Microsoft is not just enhancing its security toolkit—it's redefining what AI can accomplish in the world of malware defense.
