Kochi police hunt for rapper Vedan after woman doctor files rape complaint; music event postponed
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kochi city police commissioner Putta Vimaladitya said that they are currently monitoring Vedan's whereabouts.
'We are monitoring Vedan's current location. An anticipatory bail application has been filed by him in the High Court. We are examining all legal angles, and appropriate action will be taken,' said Vimaladitya.
He added that the investigation is going on and witness statements are being collected. However, he declined to answer questions about whether Vedan is officially considered absconding or if the investigation team has located him.
Meanwhile, in the light of the controversy, 'Olam Live', a music event featuring Vedan, originally scheduled for Saturday at the Bolgatty Palace in Kochi, has been postponed by the organisers Soda Lime Productions.
'Although other artists like Fejo, Gabri, Hrishi, and M C Couper were also set to perform, Vedan was our headliner. After speaking with his manager, we were informed that he is unavailable, which led us to postpone the event,' said Vineeth, owner of Soda Lime Productions.
He added that approximately 1,000 tickets had already been sold, and all ticket holders have been notified of the postponement. 'They can either request a refund or use the same tickets for the rescheduled event,' said Vineeth.

Kolkata police to probe injury to RG Kar rape victim's mother during protest
A day after the RG Kar rape and murder victim's mother was injured during 'Nabanna-the state secretariat Abhijan', Kolkata Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma said on Sunday that allegations about injury on Abhaya's mother is "regrettable" and it will be probed from all possible angles. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police yesterday registered an FIR against former cricketer and BJP MLA Ashok Dinda for allegedly threatening a policeman during the 'Nabanna march' to mark the one year of the rape and murder of Postgraduate doctor of the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Dinda was seen in a purported video threatening police officers. However, it has not been verified by ET Dinda said, 'India's flag was under the feet of policemen and like any Indian citizen, I have protested against it.'

Children's park, affiliated institutions handed over to Ernakulam CWC
KOCHI: Indira Priyadarshini Children's Park and other affiliated institutions near Marine Drive were handed over to the State Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as per a High Court order on Saturday. The park was illegally occupied by an Ernakulam-based independent organisation, claiming to be the CWC, for around 25 years. The CWC approached the HC as the organisation was mismanaging the huge income generated from the facility. 'We demanded to hand over the administration of the park to the District CWC. Though the government had renovated the park, several areas are currently lying uninhabited due to a lack of proper maintenance,' said State CWC general secretary G L Arun Gopi. The day-to-day administration of the children's park, theatre and other facilities has now been handed over to the Ernakulam District CWC. Former Ernakulam district collector N S K Umesh issued an order on the same on July 23 based on the interim order of the High Court and the legal advice of the advocate general. The facility was handed over to the district committee in the presence of State Administrative Committee member Adv Yesudas Parappally, District CWC secretary Adv Sunil Hareendran, vice-president Adv K S Arun Kumar and others. Meanwhile, Arun made allegations of financial fraud. 'We have evidence showing that the independent organisation has been committing financial fraud under the guise of maintaining the children's park for years. An investigation is under way,' said Arun, adding that the children's theatre and childcare centre attached to the children's park will be operational within a month.
