Dhamtari's ‘MAA' mission aims to restore Mahanadi's origin area

Raipur: The Dhamtari district administration launched a special campaign, 'Mahanadi Awakening Abhiyan' (MAA), to restore the Mahanadi River's origin area.
The 18-km stretch from Pharshiya to Sihawa will be covered under this initiative, which aims to enhance ecological balance and promote sustainable development.
Dhamtari collector Abinash Mishra said the comprehensive reformation of the Mahanadi River's origin will involve desilting the riverbed, reinforcing banks, enhancing green cover, beautifying surroundings, making the area accessible to the public, developing the surrounding region, and engaging the community in conservation efforts.
Mishra said that by revitalising the river's source, MAA hopes to enhance the region's popularity, transforming the river's origin into a tourist attraction, boosting agricultural output, and improving the livelihoods of local residents as well as the regional economy.
MAA was inaugurated on May 2 and the ceremony was joined by thousands of villagers across several villages in the Dhamtari district.
Mishra said the MAA campaign is a special initiative and an extended version of the state govt's ongoing campaign 'Mor Gaon, Mor Paani'. A nearly 20 km stretch alongside the Mahanadi River, considered the lifeline of Chhattisgarh and one of the ten largest rivers in India, will be covered under the MAA campaign.
He said that this is a large project initiated in India and they are working scientifically to ensure better results.
In the last two months, cleaning, encroachment removal, beautification, and plantation on the river banks were undertaken. The collector said ten villages, including Pharshiya, Sambalpur, Chikhli, and Ganeshwar, will benefit through sustainable development plans executed under the campaign.
Major emphasis will be given to developing Karneshwar Mahadev Dham and Shringi Rishi Ashram, spread across 1.5 km, as a tourist spot. Road widening and anicut construction will be done. Measures will be taken to overcome the water crisis under the campaign. collector said they are taking help from educational institutions, NCC, NSS, various govt departments, public participation, and IIT Madras for technical support.
Mishra said it is a one-year project and this awareness campaign is dedicated to rejuvenating the Mahanadi, which originates in Chhattisgarh, flows across Odisha, and finally merges into the Bay of Bengal. He added that it is a collective movement to build awareness, encourage participation, and foster responsibility towards conserving and rejuvenating the Mahanadi.

The day was historic for the university when 2045 students were awarded degrees in recognition of their academic excellence. The convocation was the true reflection of the academic excellence and holistic education spirit of Sanskriti University, harmonizing tradition with progressive ambitions. Chancellor Dr Sachin Gupta honored the ceremony with his presence wherein honorary degrees were awarded to Dr J.C. Chaudhry, founder of Aakash Institute and noted educationist, and Ashutosh Rana, a renowned Bollywood actor, writer, poet and orator. Ceremonial Inauguration The ceremony started with the lighting of the traditional ceremonial lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati indicating the pursuit of knowledge and singing the national anthem. Esteemed Guest Addresses Dr Nalinaksha S. Vyas (IIT Kanpur) emphasized that learning goes beyond formal education: "This is not the end of your learning - it is the beginning. THE CONSTRUCTION process of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya — using stones and no iron — is likely to be included in the syllabus at two institutes in Uttarakhand's Roorkee: The IIT and the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI). The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, in a meeting convened in Ayodhya over the past three days, has decided to hand over five years' of time-lapse video footage to the two institutes to turn into study material and also be featured in a documentary. Chairman of the construction committee of the temple, Nripendra Mishra, told The Indian Express on Wednesday that as soon as he is back in Delhi, he would invite the heads of both the institutes and would discuss the signing of a 'detailed agreement' with them in this regard. He informed that five cameras were installed on the Temple premises to capture the time-lapse video footage of each day of the temple construction – right from the day of laying of foundation stone in August 2020, soil testing, different phases of construction to its completion, likely in December this year. 'The idea was to take all the possible and relevant photographs to show how the temple construction is going on,' Mishra told The Indian Express, adding, 'We have decided to initiate talks with IIT Roorkee and CBRI so that they may, perhaps, make a syllabus on the technology of the temple construction, particularly of stone with no iron. It would become part of their syllabus and course for students to study.' Asked about how the footage would be handed over, Mishra told The Indian Express, 'A detailed agreement would be signed with the institutes as the footage is the intellectual property right of the temple Trust.' The three-day Trust meeting, which concluded on Wednesday also reviewed the ongoing construction work of the temple, granite memorial for those died after having taken part in the Temple movement, development of a 'Panchvati', around 10 acres of green forest area, which can provided protective area for monkeys and birds and would have a water body as well. It was also informed during the meeting that for the ongoing work of installation of 90 murals on the lower plinth of the temple, which would narrate the story of Lord Ram. 'There murals are made up of Bansi Paharpur stone and are 90 in number. They would narrate the story of Ram and would roughly spread to about 800 running ft. These murals are roughly about 6-7 ft of height. 85 of these have arrived,' informed Mishra. Meanwhile, officials informed that the meeting concentrated on construction of the museum in the temple premises as the discussion took place on the probable technologies to be used for around 20 galleries, which would depict the life of Lord Ram and different characters of Ramayana era through different methodology. Sources inform that it has been decided that one of the galleries, which would depict in 3D the life of Hanuman, would be developed by IIT Madras.

Deputy Commissioner Prashanth Kumar Mishra has directed officials to ensure that the ongoing crop survey in the district must be conducted in a systematic and error-free manner, while delays in the registration of births and deaths will not be tolerated. Chairing a District-level Coordination Committee meeting at his office in Ballari on Tuesday, Mr. Mishra reviewed the progress of crop-cutting experiments, civil registration of births and deaths, crop area reconciliation and other related matters. Noting that 84% of sowing has been completed in the district for the current agricultural season, Mr. Mishra said that 1,760 field-level workers from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Revenue and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj departments have been deployed across five taluks to conduct the monsoon crop survey. 'So far, 1,704 crop-cutting experiments have been carried out. Form 1 must be mandatorily filled during the crop survey,' he said and directed departmental heads to ensure the completion of the exercise in time. On the issue of birth and death registrations, Mr. Mishra underlined that all registrations in both rural and urban areas must be completed within the stipulated 21 days as mandated under the Births and Deaths Registration Act. 'There should be no delay in issuing certificates. There should be no scope for middlemen. Citizens must be provided certificates promptly,' he said. District Statistical Officer N.K. Patribasappa told the meeting that between January and July 2025, 17,098 births were registered in the district, comprising 8,817 boys and 8,281 girls. During the period, 7,883 deaths were registered, including 4,667 male, 3,213 female and three persons belonging to minority gender groups. Responding to this, the Deputy Commissioner said that government and private health institutions across the district must mandatorily record all births and deaths occurring on their premises within the prescribed time. He noted that 3,388 cases of birth and death registrations remain pending in urban local bodies, including the Ballari City Corporation, and directed the District Health and Family Welfare Officer to issue notices to private health facilities responsible for delays. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Zubair, District Surgeon N. Basareddy, Joint Director of Agriculture Somasundar, officers of the Horticulture and Municipal Administration departments, Land Records and Survey Settlement officials, all tahsildars and other district-level officers were present.
