The best and worst looks from the 2025 Tony Awards

Business Insider4 hours ago

Broadway's biggest stars gathered for the most exciting theater event of the year on Sunday: the Tony Awards.
Cynthia Erivo hosted the 2025 Tonys at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The evening was full of live performances, including a medley of "Hamilton" songs performed by the original Broadway cast.
The attendees included stage actors, Hollywood stars, and even influencers. Some attendees came dressed to impress in ball gowns and statement suits, while others' outfits fell flat.
Take a look at the best and worst looks celebrities wore to the 2025 Tony Awards.
Lea Michele's tuxedo dress was effortlessly chic.
Michele walked the red carpet in a black tuxedo dress designed by Michael Kors.
The neckline dipped low, and a slit cut the skirt on one side, creating a sexy and balanced look. Michele also let the dress speak for itself, wearing black heels and simple jewelry.
Cecily Strong's floral ensemble was too busy.
Strong wore a floor-length, long-sleeve coat dress designed by Badgley Mischka. It had a pretty silhouette, with its collared neckline, belted waist, and full skirt.
However, the green dress was covered in an array of hot pink flowers from head to toe. The pattern was overwhelming to the eye, and the look might have been better if Strong wore the coat unbuttoned with an unpatterned shift underneath it to break up the colors.
Cynthia Erivo arrived to host the Tonys in a gown with an intricate bodice.
Schiaparelli designed Erivo's taupe gown, which had a regal feel that set the tone for her role as host of the evening.
The gown's column skirt had a sheen to it, while the off-the-shoulder bodice was covered in sparkly, floral beading. The neckline hovered around Erivo's frame, playing with structure.
Meanwhile, the bodice on Katie Holmes' dress didn't look cohesive with her skirt.
Holmes wore a custom Prada ensemble to the Tonys. The look featured the two main colors associated with "Wicked," as it had a high-neck, green blouse and a column-style pink skirt adorned with sparkly beading.
The two garments looked like they belonged to different outfits, and the green top in particular felt too casual for the Tonys. Holmes could have stood out on the red carpet if she had paired the skirt with a better top, but the look fell flat as it was.

Tony Awards highlights: Radio City becomes the room where it happens for a 'Hamilton' reunion

NEW YORK — Even the ushers at Radio City Music Hall seemed thrilled to be in the room where it happened. A few of them could be seen grooving, like everyone else at Sunday's Tony Awards, to the 'Hamilton' reunion performance — a medley of some of that blockbuster musical's biggest songs, performed by the original cast. The occasion was the 10th Broadway anniversary of Lin-Manuel Miranda's juggernaut that spawned multiple touring companies, a West End production and a live-capture film — and is still going strong.

After the after parties, come the after, after parties. Following the Tony Awards, many attendees flitted off to cast celebrations and the official MoMA party before landing at the annual event at the Carlyle, hosted by Rick Miramontez and John Gore. Upon entering, guests were met with camera flashes before entering into a dark, sea of people floating from booth-to-bar at the hotel, before hitting the back room where a band played songs like 'Come Fly With Me.' While she remained seated most of the night, it didn't stop people from going up to her and complimenting her performance. The 'Hacks' star graciously chatted with each person, shaking hands and laughing. After several minutes speaking with the star, one guest bragged to a friend: 'We have become very best friends with Jean Smart.…That's all we need in life.' Later on in the evening, she and actress Zoey Deutch, who wore a black, sequin gown, were all smiles, deep in conversation. Equally busy was Mia Farrow who chatted with Andrew Scott and sipped on a glass of white wine. Partygoers weren't shy to go up to the actress and compliment her on her role in the play 'The Roommate.' One fan said: 'You're incredible. We need to see more of you,' to which she very demurely responded 'Thank you. Bless you,' rubbing them on the arm. Farrow was seemingly just as excited about seeing Broadway's finest, as they were about meeting her. Ahead of the event, Farrow was eager to see Jonathan Groff perform and afterward was just as excited to gush about host Cynthia Erivo. Farrow departed at around 1:30 a.m., someone in her party saying it was time to get her home. Ariana DeBose, who hosted the Tony Awards last year, similarly said Erivo's hosting was one of the highlights of her evening…that and 'Jonathan Groff standing on Keanu Reeves' during his performance from 'Just in Time,' she said, laughing. Of course, DeBose, who was in the original cast of 'Hamilton,' also raved about getting to perform for the 10th anniversary during the awards. 'I'm biased,' she said before slinking off to sip her drink in a booth with friends. Meanwhile, Sara Bareilles snaked her way through the party holding up her silver, sequin gown to reveal a pair of white Converse. Busy Philipps arrived with soft pink hair, staying close to a small group of friends throughout the evening. Scott passed off his drink to pose for a slew of photos that lit up the dark bar area with flash. While guests mingled, some were pulled into a private area for interviews. Meanwhile, upstairs, a neon dance floor remained unused at 1:30 a.m., though a DJ did perform. Stations for late night food were also ready to go on the upper level for the inevitable munchies. At 1:45 a.m., a long line was forming of Tony goers still waiting to get into the party, including a large group of cast members from 'Sunset Blvd.' who all raised their hand in unison to let the bouncer know they were all together. Paul Tazewell, who won for 'Death Becomes Her,' slid in the line, just as the 'Sunset' crew was being let in.
