Kuwait extends oil credit facility for two years

Kuwait has extended the deferred oil payment facility for two years to ease pressure on Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves.
Pakistan State Oil (PSO) – a state-owned oil marketing giant – imports three cargoes of oil every month from Kuwait on 90-day deferred payments. The total volume of oil supply on credit is 1.8 million tons per year. Now, this credit facility has been extended for two years. Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met Kuwaiti Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman J Almutairi at the Ministry of Petroleum. Malik expressed gratitude for the support provided by brotherly countries, including Kuwait, which was pivotal for the structural reforms undertaken by the government of Pakistan.
The Kuwaiti ambassador commended Pakistan's significant economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, particularly in stabilising the economy and improving the investment climate. He expressed confidence in Pakistan's growth trajectory and reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to deepening economic and energy partnerships between the two nations.
Ali Pervaiz Malik, while acknowledging the support extended by Kuwait, mentioned that the oil credit facility had been extended for two years by Kuwait Petroleum.
"The relations between PSO and Kuwait Petroleum are progressing very well," he said, adding that Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (Kufpec) was already working in the exploration sector and its interest in offshore blocks was welcome.
Their discussion centred on strengthening bilateral energy cooperation and exploring avenues for investment in Pakistan's petroleum sector. Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasised Pakistan's dedication to fostering stronger ties with Gulf nations, particularly in energy and trade. The meeting concluded with the resolve that both sides would build on the existing relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait.

The premier especially acknowledged Sheikh Tamim's timely phone call at the peak of the crisis, and also appreciated the supportive role played by Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister. Earlier, PM Shehbaz also held a telephonic conversation with his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with both reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in multiple fields, including trade, investment, and culture. Both leaders also prayed for peace and the safety of innocent Palestinians in Gaza. He expressed gratitude to Malaysia for its support and balanced stance during the Pakistan-India crisis, calling for de-escalation and dialogue.

Pakistan committed to sustainable energy future: minister
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik delivered a keynote address at the Ministerial Plenary session titled, 'Global Cooperation for a Resilient and Sustainable Energy Future' as part of the prestigious Baku Energy Week, emphasising Pakistan's commitment to a sustainable and resilient energy future. The event marked the 30th anniversary of the Baku Energy Forum, where Minister Malik congratulated Parviz Shahbazov, the energy minister of Azerbaijan and reiterated Pakistan's support for this effort and pledged to cooperate with this forum in every way in enabling this transition from a fossil fuel driven environment to more balanced fuel basket. Malik outlined Pakistan's strategic shift under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif towards a balanced, inclusive, and sustainable energy paradigm. He highlighted that Pakistan fully understands that as we manage transition towards industrialisation, our demand will go up that needs to be complimented with the induction of renewable energy and renewable technologies into our energy landscape. Another important aspect is coherence in terms of policy evolution. For this purpose, the Cabinet Committee on Energy, chaired by the prime minister is being revived to ensure coordination between the Petroleum and Power Divisions, he said. He said that we are expanding our gas infrastructure by encouraging local exploration. We are grateful to the government of Azerbaijan and our friendly countries who are assisting us and helping us in the indigenisation of the gas resources. A lot of strategy initiatives are being taken on conservation part. Despite economic challenges, Pakistan is committed to making the gas sector sustainable by dismantling inefficiencies and implementing reforms. We are working to build a sustainable energy sector.
