Botti savouring ‘special day' with Italian Derby hero Molveno
Botti said: 'We had a nice dinner with the jockey and his family last night and it was great.
'For us the Italian Derby means a lot. My dad won it a few times, as has my brother, so he couldn't be too upset finishing second and third this year!
'It was a great ride and I thought the horse was very brave. At one point I thought he'd slipped a little bit too far back in a field, but he actually picked up well in the straight.'
Molveno won three times on the all-weather during the winter and was last seen filling the runner-up spot in a handicap over Newmarket's Rowley Mile.
He faced a hike in class and distance in Rome, but Botti was confident his charge had what it took to make his presence felt.
'I always thought the extra three furlongs shouldn't be an issue. After his last run at Newmarket we thought we'd step up in trip and I said to the owner, who is Italian-based, if you want to go for the Italian Derby I wouldn't be against it,' he added.
'He loves fast ground. I know with his form you wondered whether he'd be good enough or not, but I've bought a few horses for my brother rated 90/95 who have been competitive, so we said we'd take a chance and it worked out quite well.
'I'm sure it was special for Marco as well. It was his first Group Two winner, he was born in Italy and his parents were there, so it was a special day for sure.'
Molveno looks set to enjoy a short break following his Italian heroics before being campaigned abroad later in the year.
Botti said: 'Having won a Group Two it will be really tough for him in England and as he travelled so well and likes fast ground, I think we'll campaign him more in the second half of the season in a few races maybe in Qatar and Bahrain and places like that.
'I think that's what we'll do. He deserves a break now as it's a long way to Rome, so we'll freshen him up and get him ready for the second part of the season.'

German journalists press Pro7 investors not to sell to Berlusconi's MFE
BERLIN, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Germany's DJV journalists' association appealed on Thursday to investors in ProSiebenSat.1 ( opens new tab not to sell their shares to Italian suitor MFE, warning it could impose a "right-wing populist agenda" on the German media company. Owned by the family of late Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, MFE is courting ProSieben shareholders to sell over the next two weeks as it seeks to build a pan-European television company to compete with U.S. streaming giants. "It is in the hands of the shareholders to save jobs at the private broadcaster network and prevent a shift to the right," DJV head Mika Beuster said in a statement. "We need more journalism, not more agitation," he added. MFE declined to comment on the allegations of a right-wing populist agenda. ProSieben management gave up its resistance and advised shareholders to accept MFE's bid after it raised the offer earlier this month, but the Italians' move has caused some unease in Berlin. In comments to Reuters in July, German culture minister Wolfram Weimer said ProSieben's journalistic independence must be preserved. He planned to meet Italian media magnate Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the late politician's son, to discuss the issue. MFE said earlier this week it had managed to secure 43.6% of ProSieben shares by the end of the initial acceptance period for its tender offer, shy of a majority.

Renato Veiga is set to join Villarreal with Chelsea banking a £14m profit for an unwanted defender signed last summer as Enzo Maresca hopes to welcome in new defenders It has been hailed as Chelsea's best bit of departing business since Clearlake Capital arrived as owners. Renato Veiga arrived from Basel months ago in a £12 million deal, made one Premier League start before heading to Juventus on loan and is now off to Villarreal for up to £26 million. That the defender's sale comes at a time when head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear that he is keen to strengthen his backline following the season-long injury to Levi Colwill should still not come as a surprise. Benoit Badiashile is still on his way back from injury, though Tosin Adarabioyo is fit to feature against West Ham on Friday night, while several other fringe Chelsea stars are set to depart in the next 10 days. Italian coach Maresca had long made up his mind that Veiga was not of the standard required, despite claiming early last season that he valued the now senior Portugal international's versatility when using him further forward in the Europa Conference League But demanding more game time at his favourite position before heading on loan to Juve for the second half of the campaign did not help Veiga's cause either, with those requests leading to a dim view taken behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge. Asked midway through last season, shortly before he went on loan to Juve, if Veiga deserved more game time, Maresca joked: 'I said many times, I also want long hair, but we also have more than 20 players, 25 players, and they all want to play but it's not possible.' He then added that he valued the versatility of Veiga, 22, and stressed that his use in other roles led to a first senior national team call-up. 'We bought Renato from Basel, he arrived here, has played in different positions, played well, and this allowed him to join the national team for the first time in his life, the senior national team,' Maresca added at the time. 'Probably if he is not playing in his position, and also in the international team not playing in his position, it means he can do well, and we are very proud of all of our players who join their international teams but especially in this case, a young player who joins Chelsea, starts to play different positions, four or five different positions, that gives him the chance to join the national team so we are very proud about that. 'I had a chat with Renato and I said exactly the same thing I just say to you in terms of playing in the position he is playing with us gave him the chance to join the international team and also probably gave him the chance to get speculation around him so that means clubs are probably looking at him. 'Clubs are looking for players that are doing well, not that are doing bad. Players that are doing well with the club, with the international team, and as I said, for me, if there is a player who just wants to play in one position, they're going to struggle.' Veiga went on to make a dozen Serie A starts in Turin, earning rave reviews. His sale would take Chelsea's income from sales in this window to beyond £200m.
