KL City FC starts Super League season with 3-0 win over Immigration FC
Head coach Risto Vidakovic hailed the win as a promising start despite limited preparation time with new squad members.
'We just brought many players together in a very short time. It is not easy to expect something special today.
'But of course, I am very happy with the result,' Vidakovic said during the post-match press conference.
The Serbian coach highlighted the significance of breaking KL City's long-standing opening match jinx.
'I think KL has not won their first game in the last 30 years, they always lose the opener.
'We broke that pattern today, and I think it is very important for us to gain more confidence, especially because we have many new players.'
Vidakovic expressed optimism about his team's development and stressed the need for consistency in future fixtures.
Immigration FC coach Yusri Che Lah admitted his side faced difficulties against KL City's dominant performance.
Yusri remained hopeful his squad would improve ahead of their next match against Kelantan United FC.
'There is still room for improvement, particularly in fitness, and we must intensify our efforts to achieve positive results in the coming games,' he said.
The coach defended his players after two missed penalties, stating such occurrences were part of football.
Yusri commended his team's fighting spirit despite the lopsided scoreline.
Both teams now prepare for their next Super League fixtures following this season-opening encounter. – Bernama

Malaysia bow out with pride after beating Guam
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia salvaged some pride with a 2-0 victory over Guam in their final Women's Under-20 Asian Cup Qualifying Group F match at the KLFA Stadium on Sunday. After 3-0 and 16-0 drubbings by Iran and Japan ended their hopes of progression, the Young Tigresses showed resilience against Guam. Head coach Cameron Ng praised his players' determination and commitment to the game plan despite early setbacks. "I'm very proud of the players. They never gave up. Everyone fought hard, including the substitutes who came on ready to fight for the team," said Cameron. The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Kaseh Carlmila broke free and slotted past Guam goalkeeper Sierra Ruehl. She doubled her tally in the 85th minute, tapping into an empty net to seal Malaysia's only win of the tournament. "The most satisfying thing is they trusted what we were trying to do and delivered on it," Cameron added. Guam coach Kim Sherman insisted the scoreline did not reflect her team's performance. "We're thankful for the support back home. It helped carry us through this tournament. We're proud to represent Guam," she said. Malaysia finished third in Group F with the consolation victory, but both they and Guam had already been eliminated and will not feature in next year's finals in Thailand. Earlier, six-time champions Japan sealed their place in the finals with an 11-0 demolition of Iran, topping Group F with nine points and a staggering 32 goals scored without conceding. Meanwhile, in the Super League, Terengganu cruised to a 3-0 win over Penang at the City Stadium.

From Malaysia to Portugal, towering Paarven takes giant leap
Paarven Waran (first from left) out to impress in Portugal. - FC Vizela PETALING JAYA: As the race for Super League spots heats up at home, Paarven Waran is taking his game abroad – with Portugal as his new stage. The Australian-Malaysian talent has signed with Portuguese Division Two side FC Vizela on Aug 3, and will join their Under-19 squad. While he will not be featuring in the senior league just yet, Paarven's new team are no lightweights as Vizela's Under-19s were crowned national champions of the Second Division last season. The transfer fee remains undisclosed. Previously, the 18-year-old featured for Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) IV in last season's Youth Cup, helping the team to the title. Standing at 1.92m, Paarven is seen as a bright prospect, especially as he plays in defence. Paarven is excited about what lies ahead of him. "It's the best place to grow and chase my dream of playing for Harimau Malaya," said Paarven. Before Parveen, winger Safawi Rasid also had a stint in Portugal in 2020, but it was only a loan spell with Portimonense SC from JDT before he returned home three months later. Apart from Parveen, several other players have also ventured abroad in search of opportunities this season, including former Selangor defender R. Ruventhiran, who is now with Filipino club Aguilas-UMak. Meanwhile, Dion Cools is making his mark in the Japanese league with Cerezo Osaka. Naturalised Brazilian midfielder Endrick Dos Santos is also plying his trade overseas, currently on loan from JDT to Vietnam's 1 side Cong An Ho Chi Minh City.

Frustrated Reynolds rues DPMM draw with Police after ceding two-goal lead
KUALA LUMPUR: Brunei's DPMM endured a frustrating return to the M-League after throwing away a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 draw with Police in the Super League at Selayang Stadium on Saturday. Making their first appearance in the competition since the 2007-08 season, DPMM raced ahead inside six minutes through Ramadhan Sananta and Miguel Oliveira. But Police hit back, with South Korean import Park Tae Su striking twice in the 67th and 71st minutes to level the contest. DPMM coach McAllister Reynolds was left ruing his side's missed chances. "We should have scored more than two goals today. We could have put the game to bed with a third," he said. "In the second half, credit to Police, but we could have defended their goals better. "There were individual mistakes. We have a lot of new players, so it takes time to gel. At 2-2, we still created chances — it's frustrating." DPMM rejoined the M-League after several seasons in Singapore's S-League. Meanwhile, Kelantan the Real Warriors (KTRW) coach E. Elavarasan admitted his side were second best in a 4-0 defeat to Kuching City at the Sarawak Stadium, blaming poor defending and a lack of physicality. "Kuching were better prepared and more competitive. They've played together for years, and you can see the difference," he said. "We need to find more quality players." Kuching's goals came from Ronald Ngah Wanja (second, 71st), Joao Pedro (18th) and Ramadhan Saifullah (90th). In Batu Kawan, KL City cruised to a 3-0 win over Immigration FC, ending a 30-year wait for a season-opening victory with a clean sheet.
