Muhyiddin allowed temporary release of passport to visit sick sister-in-law in Australia
Judge Azura Alwi granted the former prime minister's application following a request from his lawyer Kee Wei Lon, and there was no objection by Deputy Public Prosecutor Noralis Mat.
"The passport will be handed over to the applicant on Friday (April 25) and must be returned to the court on May 20," said Azura.
The court had granted Muhyiddin's application for temporary release of his passport several times, including to attend his grandchild's graduation ceremony and consultation regarding his pancreatic cancer in London, United Kingdom, a medical check-up in Singapore, and the opening of a friend's restaurant in Thailand.
Muhyiddin, 77, in his capacity as then-prime minister and Bersatu president, is accused of abusing his position to solicit RM232.5mil in bribes related to the Jana Wibawa Project from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd, as well as Datuk Azman Yusoff, for the benefit of his political party.
The four abuse of power offences were allegedly committed at the Prime Minister's Office in the Perdana Putra Building, Federal Government Administrative Centre, Putrajaya, between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021.
He is also faced with two counts of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM195mil from Bukhary Equity that was deposited into Bersatu's CIMB Bank account at the Menara KL branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral, between Feb 25 and July 16, 2021, and Feb 8 and July 8, 2022.
Muhyiddin was also charged in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam on March 13, 2023, with receiving money from illegal activities amounting to RM5mil. The case has been transferred to the Sessions Court here to be tried together. - Bernama

Judge Zuraidah Zakaria meted out the sentence after the accused changed his plea to guilty to a charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, and ordered him to undergo counselling during his imprisonment, as well as two years of police supervision upon release. The accused committed the offence in the bathroom of a rented room at Jalan Pending here on Jan 3, 2022. At the time, he was aged 19 while the victim was 15. According to the facts of the case, the victim and her younger sister were taken by their cousin to the rented room to collect some belongings, travelling in a car together with the accused and another man. Upon arrival, the cousin bought 'nasi lemak' for the victim and her sister, and after the meal, the victim left to look for water to drink as there was none in the room. When she returned, she began to feel dizzy and while in a semi-conscious state, discovered that her trousers had been removed by the accused. She later realised that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with her, and noticed physical traces of the act. On April 26, 2022, the victim informed her mother that she was pregnant, leading to her mother filing a police report that led to the arrest of the accused. The victim gave birth on Aug 26, with results of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test conclusively proving the accused was the biological father of the child, recording a 99.99 per cent match. Prosecuting was deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fadzri Azham Zainudin, while the accused was represented by lawyer Christopher Bada.

Akmal Salleh to be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code in Penang on Friday
GEORGE TOWN: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has confirmed that he will face court proceedings this Friday. In a post on his Facebook page, Akmal said he had been contacted by police and informed that he would be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. "However, I am currently performing the umrah in Mecca," he added. "Therefore, I will shorten my umrah and return to face the charge this Friday at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court at 8am. "If this is the price I must pay to uphold the sovereignty of the nation, I will not back down even an inch," he said. Section 505(b) of the Penal Code states that anyone who makes, publishes, or circulates any statement, rumour, or report with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public, whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or public tranquillity, shall be punished with imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both. Akmal ended his post by requesting prayers and stating: "See you in court this Friday." Last Thursday, Akmal led more than 300 Umno, Bersatu and Pas supporters on a 1.4km march carrying the Jalur Gemilang in a show of respect for the national flag. The gathering followed a recent controversy involving an upside-down Jalur Gemilang displayed at a hardware store in Kepala Batas. Early Saturday morning, Akmal completed giving his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over the assembly in Kepala Batas. His lawyer, Aizat Azam, said the Merlimau assemblyman had fully cooperated and answered all of the approximately 80 questions posed by the investigating officer.

Bersatu Youth chief to be charged tomorrow over comments on Pas-led rally arrest
KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham is expected to be charged tomorrow over his speech during a gathering in front of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters last month. The wing's information chief Harris Idaham Rashid said Hilman, who is also the Gombak Setia assemblyman, will be charged under the magistrate's court in Jalan Duta. In a statement today, Harris said Hilman is expected to be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for issuing statements causing public mischief. "Bersatu Youth strongly condemns this action. This it is clearly a political intimidation aimed at silencing opposition voices," he said. It was reported that Hilman during the gathering on July 29 had criticosed the arrests of several party members, believed to be in connection with Pas-led rally on July 26. Three Bersatu leaders were among four people arrested in connection with the Pas-led rally in Dataran Merdeka. All four including a Pas leader were released after an application to remand them were rejected. In a separate statement, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin condemned the prosecution against Hilman. Muhyiddin said Hilman has every right to criticise the Sedition Act and oppose the authorities' detention of several Bersatu leaders under the same law.
