Muhyiddin seeks dropping of charges via representation
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has submitted a letter of representation to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) seeking the withdrawal of seven charges against him involving abuse of power and receiving funds from unlawful activities. Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed High Court Judge K. Muniandy of the development during case mention proceedings today. He said the representation was filed at the end of last month and is currently under consideration by the AGC. This is the first representation submitted in relation to the case. Muhyiddin was present in court, accompanied by his lawyers Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad and Rosli Dahlan. The court has fixed Oct 7 for the next mention. Muhyiddin, 78, who was then Prime Minister and Bersatu president, was charged with four counts of abuse of power for allegedly soliciting RM232.5 million in bribes for the political party from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd, and Datuk Azman Yusoff in connection with the Jana Wibawa project. He was accused of committing the offence at the Prime Minister's Office, Bangunan Perdana Putra, Federal Government Administration Centre in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021. The Pagoh Member of Parliament also faces three charges of receiving RM200 million in illegal proceeds from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, which were deposited into Bersatu's Ambank and CIMB Bank accounts. The offence was allegedly committed at AmBank, Amcorp Mall branch, Petaling Jaya on Jan 7, 2022, and CIMB Bank, Menara KL Branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral, between February 25 and July 16, 2021, and Feb 8 and July 8, 2022. - Bernama

Muhyiddin seeks to drop graft charges in Jana Wibawa case
rahmat@ KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has submitted a letter of representation for the prosecution to drop seven corruption charges linked to the Jana Wibawa scandal. Lead prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told the High Court today that the Attorney-General's Chambers received the letter last week and is now considering the matter. He was speaking before High Court judge K. Muniandy during the hearing. The court has fixed Oct 7 for the next hearing. Muhyiddin was represented by lawyers Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad and Rosli Dahlan. The Parti Pribumi Bersatu president was charged with four counts of abuse of power for allegedly soliciting RM232.5 million in bribes for the political party from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd, and Datuk Azman Yusoff in connection with the Jana Wibawa project. He was accused of committing the offence at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021. Muhyiddin gets passport back temporarily to visit sick in-law in Australia, must return by May 20
KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — The Sessions Court here today allowed an application by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the temporary release of his international passport to enable him to visit his sick sister-in-law in Australia. Judge Azura Alwi granted the former prime minister's application following a request from his lawyer Kee Wei Lon and there was no objection by Deputy Public Prosecutor Noralis Mat. 'The passport will be handed over to the applicant today and must be returned to the court on May 20,' said Azura. The court had granted Muhyiddin's application for temporary release of his passport several times, including to attend his grandchild's graduation ceremony and consultation regarding his pancreatic cancer in London, United Kingdom, a medical check-up in Singapore, and the opening of a friend's restaurant in Thailand. Muhyiddin, 77, in his capacity as then-prime minister and Bersatu president, is accused of abusing his position to solicit RM232.5 million in bribes related to the Jana Wibawa Project from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd, as well as Datuk Azman Yusoff, for the benefit of his political party. The four abuse of power offences were allegedly committed at the Prime Minister's Office in the Perdana Putra Building, Federal Government Administrative Centre, Putrajaya, between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021. He is also faced with two counts of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to M195 million from Bukhary Equity that was deposited into Bersatu's CIMB Bank account at the Menara KL branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral, between Feb 25 and July 16, 2021, and Feb 8 and July 8, 2022. Muhyiddin was also charged in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam on March 13, 2023, with receiving money from illegal activities amounting to RM5 million.
