New NFRA chief Nitin Gupta brings experience of policy and Investigations

The new chief of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), Nitin Gupta, a 1986-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service, is no stranger to dealing with complex issues, ranging from policy-making to investigations.
Gupta, who served as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from June 27, 2022, to June 30, 2024, oversaw efforts to expand the department's digital oversight, particularly through e-verification during his two-year tenure. 'A lot of groundwork was done on e-verification during his tenure, with emphasis on using data to flag mismatches and reduce manual checks,' a senior bureaucrat said.

This event marks a significant milestone in our bilateral partnership and reaffirms the deep-rooted and people-centric partnership between the two countries. This project supports Mauritius's national objective of reducing carbon emissions and contributes to its transition toward cleaner and more efficient public transport. In his remarks, High Commissioner recalled the elevation of bilateral ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnershipduring the historic visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in March 2025, and highlighted green mobility as a key pillar of this partnership. The High Commissioner also underlined India's broader support for Mauritius's green transition, highlighting completed project such an 8 MW solar PV farm at Henrietta, and ongoing Community Projects such as solar street lighting, and a community solar farm in High Commissioner conveyed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Ramgoolam for his continued support and expressed appreciation for the support of the Government of Mauritius in implementing the project. Reaffirming India's commitment to Mauritius's development aspirations, he thanked all stakeholders for their collaboration and expressed hope that the electric buses would serve as moving symbols of the two nations' shared commitment to a cleaner, greener in his remarks recalled the historic State Visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mauritius in March 2025 and expressed deep appreciation for Government of India's donation of the first batch of 10 electric buses to the National Transport Corporation (NTC), calling it a testimony to the enduring and special India–Mauritius relationship. He highlighted India's consistent development support, especially in high-profile infrastructure projects, and described the E-bus initiative as a reflection of the shared commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Prime Minister underscored the significance of clean public transport in Mauritius's broader development agenda, noting its environmental and health benefits, potential to reduce emissions, and alignment with the government's strategy to modernise the country and achieve climate targets. He welcomed India's role as a strategic partner in key future-oriented sectors such as AI, the blue economy, food and maritime security, and renewable energy. Emphasising the economic and technological benefits of electric mobility, he thanked all stakeholders involved and formally accepted the first 10 E-buses on behalf of the people of Mauritius. Bengaluru Users Complain About Shocking Tax Notices Over Parking Space, Civic Body Responds
A technical malfunction in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) e-Khata system has caused widespread frustration among property owners in Bengaluru, with thousands receiving unexpected show-cause notices. The e-Khata system, a digital platform designed to streamline property documentation, issues an online property certificate that records ownership details, including title history, tax records, and property dimensions. This certificate has been mandatory for all property transactions in the city since July 1, 2025, as part of BBMP's efforts to enhance transparency and digitise property records. However, as many as 31,000 homeowners received show-cause notices for not including car parking areas in their property's carpet size reports. Several people took to social media to express their frustration, questioning the need for this additional tax burden. Many residents claimed that the notices were issued without proper verification of the original property documents. BBMP officials attributed the issue to a recent software check in their Kauvery system, which identified discrepancies in property size data between e-Khata and the EPID database. The problem stems from a flaw in the e-Khata software that misinterpreted the built-up area, incorrectly including parking slots in the "carpet area" and resulting in inflated tax liabilities for many homeowners. BBMP's special commissioner (revenue), Munish Moudgil, told The Times Of India that notices were meant for properties with over 5% variation in data. However, due to a technical glitch, mass emails were sent to others who weren't at fault. Mr Moudgil assured that affected residents can appeal and have the issue resolved promptly.
